Alien Covenant- I can see why it got mixed reviews, it was very stop and start, it really confused me as well, so I'm going to have to rewatch Prometheus

Benzient-XXVII 09-07-2017 10:19 PM

Captain America 3:Civil War (2016)
9/10 > Just as good as the first two but they all feel the same to me, also it was too long got bored on and off throughout

Boo (2005)
6/10 > second viewing and still like it, I now it's not great but it was enjoyable

Spiderman : Homecoming - It was a different take on the normal Spiderman formula. I enjoyed it 7/10

user104658 12-07-2017 11:07 PM

As Above, So Below - It wasn't really scary, a lot of it was a bit daft, and the acting is... ... well it's mediocre, to be kind. However for some reason, I actually found myself quite enjoying it?. The Dante's Inferno references are fun, some are a bit ham-fisted / in your face, and others I didn't even catch at first. 6.5/10.

Me Before You, i loved this movie, so emotional and that ending had me in tears

also nice music to go with the movie

Locke. 13-07-2017 06:15 PM

The Mummy (2017) - 4/10 - I was never into the other films when I was younger but I'm a big Tom Cruise fan so wanted to check this out. Not good at all, and a horrible start to the Dark Universe franchise. It did have some decent moments but the humour fell quite flat and the actual Mummy didn't seem all that powerful, got bested a few times by regular non-main-character-humans. Tom's worst film in quite some time.

Perfetti Sconosciuti (Perfect Strangers) (2016) - 8.5/10

Great cast and interesting story. A solid film doesn't need more than that.

Spider-Man: Homecoming.

I really enjoyed it, I like the new take on it. 8/10.

user104658 14-07-2017 08:33 PM

Spiderman: Homecoming.

I mostly enjoyed it, though weirdly I feel like you can tell it's not 100% MCU? The tone is just slightly different. Not that that's necessarily a problem.

Also unsure about his Iron-man Esque spider suit complete with A.I. buddy. It didn't feature much in this one but I feel like it's going to be standard for him now...

Conjuring 2 (8/10)

Amazing and rewatchable!

Just took my 5/yo to see Cars 3.
8/10
I thought it was great but the lad got bored with the slow story bits.
It is basically a cross between Rocky 4 and 5 but in the world of racing.A few pretty funny parts and nice links to Cars 1.

A winner for me but a little slow for a youngster maybe.

Edited to add:The cinema was quiet considering it was launch night. The back section full but the whole front section empty.

That's coz Cars is clearly Pixar's poor cousin of a product. :joker:

But more seriously, kids films are usually busiest in the AM / early afternoon showings. I've been in a packed cinema for "Peppa Pig". That was pretty alarming tbh.

I love a quiet cinema though. Monday around lunch time on a school day - ****ing bliss. All tickets including VIP £3.99, find a showing on their biggest screen, plonk myself in the middle of the VIP seats, several times have had the entire cinema to myself, pretend it's my house and that I'm rich. Yas.

At most there will be like 2 or 3 other people.

War for the Planet of the Apes - My favourite of the series so far 9/10

Locke. 15-07-2017 10:12 AM

To The Bone - 8/10 - Very touching film by Netflix that they released yesterday. Contains one of the best lead female performances in recent years by Lily Collins and Keanu Reeves continues his brilliant comeback in a supporting role.

Get out - outstanding, think it even gets the rare 10/10

Jurassic Park - The original 1993 release 9/10

I went to it at a special season marking 80 years of Tyneside Cinema yesterday.

All there was on the TV was some men's tennis match, I hope I did not miss anything important

ethanjames 17-07-2017 10:27 AM

I watched Spider-Man homecoming last night and I loved it! wasn't a fan of the amazing Spider-Man and this was a major improvement. tom Holland is easily the best Spider-Man with this likable energy about him which made him all the more engaging. though the pacing didn't work within the second act it was just a lot of fun :)

JerseyWins 18-07-2017 07:01 PM

The War of the Planet of the Apes - 7.5 - I preferred The Rise and The Dawn muuuuuuuuch more but this one was still pretty good.

Edge if Tomorrow:

been meaning to watch for a while and finally got round to it, really enjoyed it actually. I mean, who hasn't watched Groundhog Day and thought; "this needs more aliens!". But yeah, the world needs more groundhog day style films IMO. Always a fun concept to explore. 8/10

The Martian: also enjoyed this one. OK, yes, it is essentially a mash-up of two Tom Hank films (Castaway and Apollo 13) with a bit of "Gravity" thrown in at the end but... it works. 7.5/10
