Really good post. Says a great deal all through. |

Lots try and use the fact that woman’s rights and gays rights as an example of how change will come by getting yourself out in the public eye. Racism is a far deeper divide but change will come if the people that we vote into power have no choice but to make laws that protect ethnic minority’s because the overwhelming voice from the people is we want the law changed. As soon as protesters show violence and start attacking businesses and the police all the momentum is lost and we are back to square one. All good people don’t want violence and vandalism on the streets so that the empathy they felt for the cause is replaced by anger. It’s people in suits that use pens that change life’s not those in hoodies carrying improvised weapons. |

Or maybe it's because the recent protests have been going on for several weekends in a row, and now they can use social media to communicate more effectively. |
The London Mayor has asked that people do not march this weekend, do not throw away 12 weeks of lockdown, endanger further lives to the virus, not to mention the countless business's owned by both black and white and associated jobs that will be lost if the virus starts to spread unchecked again. I guess he needs to educate himself as well

But what does an Oreo like him know about anything  |
Yes the mayor also said
after 5PM The Police Curfew takes over in Central London, and Police can arrest them. |

Well this London Mayor is not covered in glory as to his handling of very much.
I'm not in favour of destruction of anything by the more volatile of people attaching themselves to the protests. This is in the public domain now, after the trigger from the horrific killing of George Floyd. Those deep rooted issues, suppressed for so long were bound to surface. Now, the government and authorities would love all this to go away. Constantly on about this pandemic, when the government has created more and more confusion of what is acceptable now. Even looking at reducing the distance figure. Despite the R infection rate risng from a few weeks ago from 0.5 to 0.9. To now O.7 to 0.9 With it estimated at 1 or over 1 in some areas. Yet more and more of the lockdown being eased. People are confused. I cannot grasp all the so called easing of measures. There's people who haven't a clue how, or is it even safe to now engage is this bubble from this weekend too. These protesters feel strongly, their cause is right, there are racial issues in the USA and here in the UK. No matter how much some in the UK, would like it all swept under the carpet. These protesters will persist and rightly so. The message is clear. Black lives matter. To some in the USA and UK, black lives probably don't, so any attempt to portray these protesters negatively will be seized on. No, Ashley's post is pretty much spot on as AnnieK indicated too. It would be all too easy to stop protesting now, leaving those in power, locally and Nationally to pay lip service to the issue while again never addressing it. Destruction of anything, even offensive statues of dubious characters of history doesn't help the cause obviously. However the cause, in my view is right. So government and Councils now need to engage not try to divide further. To not just hear but actually listen too. Then really do something positive to address the very serious issues raised in these protests. |

I suspect it isn't going to work, trading will remain at below 70% of pre-Covid levels regardless, and companies will start dropping like flies in a few months time. |

Good to see so many historians out on the streets worried about protecting and preserving our historical heritage.

And there was me thinking we weren't meant to judge groups based on a few idiots.

These are not the same as people who have had to fight injustice all their lives. These people have been fed their anger and frustrations by Johnson and farage, and used for their own ends. |

My issue with LBC is it's all about ratings so you have shows designed to attract both sides with little balance in either of them....:fist: |
