its very difficult to know what putin will do after ukraine. He could try for a couple of quick wins against smaller non nato countries, but they have shown quite clearly that they dont have an army equipped/trained to go up against a tech superior and trained nato force. The ukraine army has only been trained for about 8 years by us, but it has shown itself to be a formidable foe to russia. That being said, russia will eventually level ukraine if it keeps going on its current path and that cant be considered a win for anyone

... and the Russian people still have no idea what atrocities their army are committing .

Presumably their soldiers are not allowed to go on leave or contact their families ??

'Surrender or Die'
Russia tells them.

[Russia has claimed it has hit more than
1,200 Ukrainian targets with missiles,
airstrikes and artillery
Russia gave Ukrainian troops a two-hour window
to lay down arms in Mariupol or face being killed
Several cities and towns in eastern Ukraine
were pounded by Russian shelling
and artillery last night
The war in Ukraine has now entered
a new phase as Russia doubles down on
efforts to seize the territories of
Donetsk and Luhansk]

Lavrov has said they will not use nuclear weapons in ukraine, so that basically means that they will

True no one can trust them.

Would that have been the case if they had surrendered early on?

bots 19-04-2022 02:22 PM

they dont want to surrender, i thought you would understand that by now

I get that, just asking what would have been the result if they had.

The result would have been living under the oppressive regime of Russia and everything that brings. I'd rather fight too

MTVN 19-04-2022 02:53 PM

Surrender early and it would have freed up a lot of Russian manpower and resources to target Kyiv when they were still attempting that or go elsewhere in the country

Those that are left have basically accepted death just to divert Russian forces for a little bit longer, its incredibly brave

bots 19-04-2022 03:00 PM

the troops in the south have been fighting for 8 years. Living in a trench all that time is insane

I read that Mariupol was majority or a high-percentage of Russian speaking.

I can't get my head round the why of it all. Why is Russia doing this?

It’s sheer madness ... it’s also crazy to think that the Russian people haven’t got a clue about what their army are doing in Ukraine

Putin has stated it's his land.

That's the case with a lot of the East and even Kyiv was split quite evenly between Russian and Ukrainian language until recently. Mariupol almost fell under separatist control in 2014 as well so there has historically been a lot of pro-Russian sentiment there but it's hard to imagine there's much left now

it highlights putins madness. These people are as close to russian as you can get without actually living there and yet he has killed thousands of civillians there. It's pretty much the equivalent of england slaughtering the welsh or the scots

A lot of ukranians were also part of the russian church, but most are leaving it now as the head of the russian church said the action was justified

The Russian Defence Ministry has given Ukrainian fighters, who are in an industrial complex in the besieged port city of Mariupol, a fresh ultimatum, according to a Reuters report.

"Russia's armed forces, based purely on humanitarian principles, again propose that the fighters of nationalist battalions and foreign mercenaries cease their military operations from 1400 Moscow time on 20th April and lay down arms," the Russian Defence Ministry said.

Not a single Ukrainian soldier accepted the same offer on Tuesday, the ministry said in a statement.

I think this is russia warning ukraine that they are going to drop a tactical nuke or equivalent on the steelworks
