It's funny, I think, some of the best stuff comes out when someone is suffering and feeling real pain.

Brilliant. And it is so true that we write much better when we are emotional. I do.

I have even cried when I have written sad or tragic situations for some of my characters.

A beautiful flower in a bed of weeds
Standing alone as they grow their incestuos seeds
You grow stronger, but the weeds grow too
By now they cover, smother and entangle you
Coming at you from every angle,But still you resist their daily strangle
Without you my beautiful flower, there would only be a bed of weeds

Nothingness
The clouds break,
shattering to reveal,
the black cradle,
that cups the stars.

My lungs spread,
breathing in the razor sharp air,
letting it pierce the soft flesh,
till they deflate.

I cry,
with the memory of joy,
and let time wash over me,
cleaning my mind.

As the trees shadows,
melt and begin to rain,
I am swallowed,
up into the nights embrace,
I can do nothing,
but submit to the eerie,
sensation,
of being one with the stars,
shining bright,
in this nothingness.

I remember this poem called Death is nothing at all. I was given it from the vicar after my mother died many years ago. It has a beautiful message.

Here it is.

Death Is Nothing At All.

Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other
That we are still
Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way you always used
Put no difference into your tone
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we always enjoyed together

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the ghost of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
There is absolute unbroken continuity
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

Reflection
I look up and you are there
Sometimes it's just a glance
Sometimes it's a meaningful stare
Sometimes you looked concerned
Sometimes I think you just don't care
Sometimes I think your the hound
Sometimes you think I'm the hare
Sometimes your covered in layers
Sometimes I'm laid out bare
Sometimes I look at you and I see myself!!!

I wrote and presented this for a poetry slam at my school. I didn't win, but did receive a high mark and praises for it.

You

You’re usually fine when we are together,
But at home,
When you’re alone,
I know that you’re not okay.

You hate yourself,
like I hate this planet,
You think that everything you do,
Every word you say,
Every movement,
and heart beat,
Is a mistake.
But you’re wrong!

To me,
The words you speak are poetry,
And the moves you make are your own unique dance,
I celebrate every single heartbeat,
Because as long as it beats,
You are mine.

Darling, if you were a mistake,
You’d be the best one I’ve ever made.

No, your problems don’t hurt me,
I can’t blame you for what is going on in your beautiful mind.
I remind you countless times,
That I too have been there,
That yes, many people have those types of thoughts,
That many people have felt the same thing as you and I,
You, are not alone.

I am not hurt,
But it saddens me,
That you cannot see the amazing person I do,
That you are hurting,
And I am fine,
Sitting at my desk, wasting time doing things that mean nothing to me.

Every experience of depression is different,
You are affected a different way than someone else.
For many,
It slowly finds you at your most vulnerable,
Like a leach at the lake,
It snatches on,
You never noticing,
it sucks everything good away,
And replaces it with demons and nightmares.

There’s always a sense of,
I’m depressed,
But usually, when that occurs,
It’s already too late to call for help.

For you,
it has made you believe that your biggest mistake,
is your own existence…

Would you know,
if the closest person to you,
Believed that their own existence was a mistake?
That the world would be a better place without them?
Probably not,
because the people who think this,
Can never bring their voices up,
To say it.

They are so scared,
That none of the words come out,
And it’s just a battle in their minds,
So they revert to any fashion of getting the demons out,
Like writing or typing words down that have meaning at the moment,
But in a year time,
Might be seen as attention seeking?

To those of us who know,
The ones that have been there,
We can tell the difference between the millions of dark images of a girl's slit wrist,
with the caption ‘I’m fine’,
From an actual cry for help.

You are fine, when we're together,
But at home,
When you are alone,
I know you're not okay.

A day the birds refused to sing
The stillness of your face
A fragment of my heart removed,
vacated, empty space
Heart wrenching cry, a kiss goodbye
I search but cannot find
Could the hands upon a clock
so easily rewind?
To be with you, to hold your hand
and guide you to your light
and know the battle had been won
Although you lost the fight
They say you're in a better place
but this I cannot see
What better place than on this earth
right here, right now with me
The birds are singing once again
Sweet messangers of song
I hear the whisper of your voice
'I'm here my love, be strong'

WOW Johnny - I practice this very method with my departed loved ones and always advise others to do the same.

Uncanny.

This poem will be added to my collection now.

Hello peeps, I've not been in the forum for a long time and remember about the poetry forum, I love to write poetry.

I am a carer and I wrote this with the elderly in mind. I hope you like it

Duty of Care

Dark nights are upon us
Yes, Winter’s on it’s way
Our fires will burn brightly
To keep the cold at bay

But what about the old folks
Who can’t afford the bills
They’ll shiver in their homes
Hypothermia sometimes kills

Some may be so lonely
As no one ever calls
They just sit in their rooms
Looking only at four walls

Lets think about our old folk
That may be feeling sad
A little call upon them
Then they may not feel so bad

As fellow human beings
We have a duty of care
To make our old peoples day
A little easier to bear

A small amount of our time
Could bring a smile upon their face
Making them feel happy
Restoring faith in the human race

I was walking on a path in the mountains, and was inspired to write this...

The air is fresh,
Feeding the lungs with each lush breath.
The calm, soothing silence,
of a forest well aware.
Waiting, anticipating,
for something to appear.
It's breath held in, as I exhale gently.
We in turn, wait for the other,
no need to hurry,
Time is slowing down.

Ammi 01-09-2016 04:02 AM

..that's lovely, Nessie....the inspiration of being/just existing as a part of the beauty around us, eh....

A Year Ends

And so, it ends
The year, my friends
It ends how it begun
Better believe it, my son

Too many celebs died
They tried to hide
But Death got them all
They heard the call.

But not let's all be glum
Feel lucky, my chum

You're still alive and well
Go out and tell
The world you're still here
And raise a glass of beer.:hee:

Remembering Mother

As Mothers Day approaches
I’m feeling awful sadness
But then when I look back
That feeling turns to gladness

The gladness that I feel
Is because you were my Mother
If I could have chosen one
Wouldn’t wanted any other

You see my dearest Mother
You had kindness in your eyes
Your heart was full of love
And you were always oh so wise

You taught me kindness matters
How to spread much love and care
You gave out cuddles daily
And you were always there

Whilst I cannot give you cuddles now
I hope from Heaven that you see
I’m doing all I can
To be the best person I can be

Thank you my beautiful Mother
For teaching me right from wrong
As I lay flowers at your grave
I’ll sing you a beautiful song

I Love & Miss You Mummy

Your World
BY GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON

Your world is as big as you make it.
I know, for I used to abide
In the narrowest nest in a corner,
My wings pressing close to my side.

But I sighted the distant horizon
Where the skyline encircled the sea
And I throbbed with a burning desire
To travel this immensity.

I battered the cordons around me
And cradled my wings on the breeze,
Then soared to the uttermost reaches
With rapture, with power, with ease!

A little poem I wrote myself

YOU AND I

You and I
Our love, is true.
Like the one between the sun,
And the moon.
Where the sea meets the sky
There we'll be,
You- and I.
