House Of Wax
A good, modern horror film, great suspense and lots of gore. Interesting characters and overall simple but effective plot, has you on the edge of your seat. Develops well but is a little boring in the beginning. Overall a good watch. 7/10 |
House Of Wax is trash

The House of Wax (2005) 7/10 I liked it. I didn't think the acting was nearly as bad as made out - Paris was actually pretty decent in my opinion. The movie was far better than other movies of its type - and although it had a boring or so first 40 minutes - the characters are well developed and everything is set up well. Suspense was built well with the ditch full of road kill, the car driving onto the camp and then driving away and then Carly later realizing that Bo's car was the car at the camp. I thought there was some classic scenes in this film - the cinema scene was extremely suspenseful, Paige's chase scene was iconic and her death scene was brutal which made up for the lackluster deaths of the two lesser used characters (Blake and Dalton?) and the scene where Carly realized the funeral was full of wax people was amazing and extremely tense. The finale of the film was fun and I liked the fire element which kept things suspenseful and the twist at the end was amazing with the road kill guy being the third brother. :flutter: However, the film doesn't go without it's problems of course, as I've already said the first 40 minutes or so were boring even though it was used to set things up, some of the deaths were lack luster and the plot is kinda silly...how could 3 people build a house of wax and where did they get all the wax from? Taking all this into account, I decided to award the film a 7. |
I'll watch House of Wax tonight as I watched Scream 2 last weekend. So I'll post both my reviews tonight.

Oops ended up watching Scream 2 and 3 on Netflix.
But basically House of Wax was a just for those who wanted to see Paris Hilton die in her prime. You'll forget about it 15 minutes later. |
House of Wax: 6.5/10 I was prepared to give this a lower score for like the first 50 minutes when pretty much nothing was happening, but when it gets going this is actually a competent horror movie. Nothing special or particularly engrossing, but decent enough for what it is. It's main strength is the eerie, nightmarish atmosphere. I have to admit, the wax figures royally creeped me out, and Wade's fate in particular into one is one of the more disturbing I can remember seeing in a horror movie. I also loved the melting house in the film's climax. It's not a movie I'm instantly dying to rewatch, but it did manage to exceed my admittedly-low expectations. Oh, and Chad Michael Murray took his top off in one scene. Rankings: 1. Scream (8/10) 2. Friday the 13th (7/10) 3. House of Wax (6.5/10) |
Chad Michael Murray is hot

This is correct.

Fiday the 13TH
I actually didn't think it was that bad! I read the reviews on here first and was excepting it to be ****e but I found it decent enough! I agree with people who say you don't connect with any characters and that a lot of the film drags on but the climax was pretty gripping imo. Nothing special, but a decent film. 6/10 |
The House of Wax
For some reason I really like this film, I really like most of the character and a lot of the scenes creeped me out. Also, one of the villains, Vincent terrified me the first time I watched it and nothing's changed. The scene in the village is great and has a eerie atmosphere, I particularly love the climax and Paris' chase scene. 8/10 |

Dollface's review of House of Wax
So i've seen this film about 20 times, because I think i'm one of the minority that actually thinks it's a really good film :worry: It's a slow build up, but once everything starts happening, it has some good horror, some mild gore, and a good storyline. The characters are well developed and likeable (most of them, anyway). Overall I give it a 7/10 It gets extra points for having 'My Chemical Romance - Helena' as the credits song :flutter: |

Cal, would you mind if I post my House of Wax review later tonight :worry:

We should do average scores tbh for the first two because I doubt anyone who's going to do a review is yet to do one for the first two

Scream 2 (1996) 10/10 This is my favourite film ever. I love it so much and it's most definitely superior to the first in my opinion. I love every scene in the film and I think the deaths are much better and most of the sequences are so suspenseful. It also has one of my favourite horror movie scenes ever with Cici's death :flutter: I also adore the opening with the cinema<333 I love the character development with Sidney, Gale and Dewey. The cop core sequence is extremely suspenseful and I think the killer reveal is amazing and a lovely homage to Friday the 13th. I think Scream 2 overall covers more ground than the first and of course I think all the performances in the film are great. I'm not sure what else to say that people aren't going to find out/already have found out for themselves when they watch it. It's my best film ever - and definitely the best entry in the Scream franchise<333 |
It's not better than the first
