Devastating news.

I heard that people were told to lay on the floor and then machine gunned, the terrorists stopping to reload half way through.

A couple of weeks ago in a post I said that we lived in dangerous times. A couple of people ridiculed this idea and said that we do not live in dangerous times... it's scaremongering by the government. Any updates on those thoughts today, I wonder?

I am so glad that Paris is getting support from all around the world, people laying flowers at French Embassies in a show of solidarity and public buildings all over the world being lit in the colours of the French flag. Also, this story was breaking news when I started watching the news last night, and before the end of the bulletin, Obama had already spoken pledging America's allegiance.

The French president, François Hollande, has blamed Islamic State for a wave of coordinated gun attacks and suicide bombings that killed more than 120 people and seriously wounded almost 100 at a series of venues across Paris.

He described the deadliest terrorist attack on Europe since the 2004 train bombings in Madrid as a “cowardly act” and an “act of war”, adding that France would defend itself.

Six sites in the French capital were targeted on Friday evening; gunmen opened fire at a rock concert and on customers in restaurants, and a series of bombs were detonated near the Stade de France, where the national football team was playing Germany in an international friendly.

At least eight attackers are dead, seven of them in suicide bombings. Witnesses to one shooting said police had told them at least one attacker was still at large. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the killings, but Islamic State reportedly released an undated video on Saturday in which it threatened to attack France if it continued to bomb Syria.

The group’s foreign media arm, al-Hayat Media Centre, released footage of a militant who called on French Muslims to carry out attacks, Reuters said. “As long as you keep bombing you will not live in peace. You will even fear traveling to the market,” the figure said in Arabic, flanked by other fighters.

Whenever a terrorist attack takes place all sort of people claim responsibility. I think though that we all knew who is responsible.

Vanessa 14-11-2015 09:20 AM

Not a coincidence that the President was there. They knew this. I'm still in shock after watching the news last night and I didn't sleep a wink.

The Islamic State claim responsibility for the Paris attacks

In an official statement, the group said France is the “top target” of the group.

It says it carefully studied the locations for the attacks, which were carried out by fighters wearing suicide belts and carrying machine guns.

Hopefully this is just a false alarm due to everywhere being on such high alert. If not, then these attacks just got scarily close to home...

Will. 14-11-2015 10:09 AM

Wait has something happened there?

BREAKING: Gatwick evacuated after suspicious item found and man with a gun.

'The statement from Islamic State goes on to call the attacks a response to insults directed at the Prophet Mohammed, as well as airstrikes by France on Islamic State-held territory.'

Airstrikes have made France a direct target, could that be applied to us too? Who knows, if it is we have Cameron to thank for his impetuosity.

Yeah lets just blame Cameron. No responsibility for the murderous terrorists who are doing this. It's all Hollande and Camerons fault.

So we should sit on our hands and let IS grow and grow and spread? Great plan.

If a terrorist attack happens in this country, and sadly there's every reason to believe one will, we will have Islamic terrorists to thank. Trying to blame Cameron is ridiculous and opportunistic, but not entirely unexpected.

Anyway, you were one of those who, a couple of weeks ago, denied we were living in dangerous times and said that it's just scaremongering by the government. Nothing more to say on that right now? I noticed you ignored it when I said it earlier.

I hope this Gatwick thing isn't connected, but speaking hypothetically if it was it shows how quick our police can react

I hope it comes to nothing. Of course, it's the Lord Mayor's Parade in London this morning... I hope that goes off without incident, so many people there...
