Zaha in England U21 squad

Quote:

Wilfried Zaha is Manchester United's only representative in the England Under-21 squad for this summer's European Championship finals.

http://www.manutd.com/~/media/3397FE...n=0,26,600,473

Zaha, who will join United in the summer, scored twice for Crystal Palace in the play-offs against Brighton on Monday to book the Eagles a Wembley date with Watford in the Championship final.

Stuart Pearce's England side will face Italy, Norway and hosts Israel in the group stages this June in a bid for tournament glory.

The likes of Ben Amos, Sam Johnstone, Nick Powell and Michael Keane have also been involved recently at this level but they are not in Pearce's 23-man party, that includes a first call-up for Wigan winger Callum McManaman.

Congratulations to Wilfried Zaha:).

Cleverley treasures title

Quote:

Tom Cleverley expressed his delight at picking up his first Barclays Premier League winner’s medal at the end of a breakthrough season.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...n=0,29,800,327

The 23-year-old midfielder is one of a clutch of players in the Manchester United squad who are savouring the feeling of winning the title for the first time.

And he could hardly contain his excitement when interviewed by MUTV during the Reds’ triumphant trophy parade through Manchester on Monday night.

"It is one of the best feelings ever; this is what you work for as a player and it feels unbelievable to have the trophy in my hands," he said.

"I have been at the club for a long time now and I know it is all about winning things, so to be part of that is massive for me. I am buzzing."

Cleverley has looked at home in United’s midfield during a campaign in which he also earned international recognition for the first time.

"I have done all right (this season)," he admitted. "I’ve played over 30 games, managed to break into the England team and obviously won my first bit of silverware.

"I am looking to improve next year but, all in all, I am happy."

Cleverley will continue his development next season without the guiding support of two men who have been hugely influential on his career so far.
Buzzing for Tom and I hope he continues to improve:).

Moyes makes youth promise

Quote:

David Moyes has promised to uphold Manchester United's traditions of bringing young players into the first team.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...,170,2279,1014

The Everton manager is replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at the Old Trafford helm on 1 July and will be paying close attention to the Academy and the younger players below the senior squad.

It is clear that the Scot is aware of the need to develop English talent and this is an area where United currently excel. The likes of Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck and Chris Smalling are already established internationals but there are plenty more with potential further down the production line.

Wilfried Zaha is joining the club in the summer from Crystal Palace while Nick Powell was personally scouted by Moyes, according to reports at the time, during his stay at Crewe Alexandra. Warren Joyce's Under-21 side, in action against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, also includes a number of bright Englishmen with Tom Thorpe, Larnell Cole, Ryan Tunnicliffe and Jesse Lingard all mainstays of the successful team.

Everton's youngsters were unlucky to lose out to a late goal at Tottenham in the other semi-final of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League this week and the Merseysiders edged United out of a last-four spot in the Under-18 competition by virtue of a superior goal difference.

"Manchester United have always relied hugely on young players and my priority will always be to promote these talents," Moyes is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail during his address to the Cambridge Union on Monday night.

"It is the right way to go. We need to be producing better English players and we are working to find the solutions. My aim would be to develop these young English players and get more and more coming through.

"[However] There are issues to resolve. How do we get them more games at a competitive level? I like the Spanish model where there is a B team playing in the lower divisions. Could we implement the same here? That would be a starting point.

"Three years ago, I wanted to get the young Everton team into the Conference, as it would be a good place to compete. The FA told us we would have to start from the bottom - in division 27 or something!"

Great:).

Jonny Evans wants to emulate Ryan Giggs trophy haul at Manchester United

Quote:

The defender is not content with his three league titles

http://www.independent.co.uk/incomin...onny-Evans.jpg

Jonny Evans has claimed his third Premier League title medal means nothing compared to Ryan Giggs' 13.

The Northern Ireland defender has now equalled John Terry and Frank Lampard for number of championships won, which underlines what a winning machine Manchester United became under Sir Alex Ferguson.

It means the examples Evans has to follow mainly come from within the Old Trafford dressing room. And, in that regard, the 25-year-old feels he comes up well short.

"It is my third Premier League medal but it is insignificant compared to what some of the other lads have achieved," Evans told MUTV.

"There are guys in there on five and six. Ryan has 13.

"That is the driving force here.

"People say I have won three. But I want to be up there with the best of them and I am sure there are a lot more in the squad who feel like that."

The attitude of those senior figures will be vital in this summer's transition from the Ferguson era to that of David Moyes.

For United need to maintain the same drive and determination even though they are no longer hearing the same voice that has cajoled so many inspired performances out of them and, since Cristiano Ronaldo's exit in 2009, been the major difference between the Red Devils and the rest.

"I have been a Manchester United fan all my life and I have never known another manager at the club," said Evans.

"I got emotional when Gary Neville left the club so you can imagine what it is like now."

Paul Scholes' retirement leaves Giggs as the last of that famed 'Class of 92', after which Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic become the elder statesmen.

Evans is amongst those next in line and seemed to have made a significant breakthrough earlier in the season when Ferguson confirmed he was now a first-choice given Ferdinand and Vidic need to be managed through a season.

Clearly, Moyes may have different ideas to his predecessor, which means all the hard work must start again for Evans.

He is quite pleased with his contribution this season though, even if a couple of small injuries have halted his progress at the end.

"I have been happy with the way my season has gone," he said.

" I have picked up one or two little injuries, which I would have liked to have avoided, but I am happy with the games I have played.

"I always wish I could have played more but winning another Premier League is a big bonus and not something to be sniffed at, whilst there are other competitions I would like to get my hands on."
