The Netherlands can get through the coming winter with no gas shortages, even if Russia completely stops providing gas to Europe, provided that some preconditions are met. Gasunie Transport Services (GTS), the Netherlands’ national gas network operator, came to this conclusion after investigating the consequences of Russia closing the gas tap to Europe, NOS reports.

According to GTS, it won’t be necessary to shut down the industry or cut heating this coming winter. “That is good news for Dutch buyers,” GTS director Bart Jan Hoevers said to the broadcaster. “Other emergency measures such as extra production from the Groningen field do not appear to be necessary for the coming months.”

The GTS assumed that the coming winter would be an average one. “If you look at the coldest winter, you would need about 10 percent extra gas,” Hoevers said to NOS. “Now that could be less due to the high price.” But if Netherlands residents continue to be stingy with their gas use, as they’ve been over the past months due to the high prices, that also should not pose a significant problem.

Russia has already reduced its gas supply to Europe in the past few months. For example, Germany received 60 percent less gas through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. The pipeline shut down entirely on Monday for annual maintenance. Germany expects Russia will keep it closed under the guise of technical problems.

That should not be a problem for the Netherlands as long as the following preconditions are met: gas usage remains 20 percent lower as is currently the case due to the high prices, coal-fired power stations continue to operate at full capacity, the Netherlands succeeds in doubling its imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to 24 billion cubic meters as planned, the LNG terminals in the Netherlands, Belgium, and United Kingdom continue to be fully utilized, and the Dutch gas storage facilities are filled to at least 80 percent. The Dutch gas storage facilities are currently about 57 percent full.

If the preconditions are met, the Netherlands will also be able to still export gas to Germany, France, and Belgium. Those countries depend on supply from the Netherlands for low-calorific gas.
.

some good news in terms of my nation's gas replacement for upcoming winter, and also good news for our neighbour countries Germany & Belgium, and France

An open act of terrorism. That’s how Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky described a Russian rocket attack on Thursday, which hit the western Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia. Officials say at least 23 people including three children have died, with another 66 people hospitalised. The missiles hit apartment blocks and a nearby cultural centre.

It was in that cultural centre — Vinnytsia’s House of Officers — that Roxolana‘s crew were preparing for her charity concert, which was supposed to take place on 17 July. Her fellow Vidbir star LAUD was supposed to appear as a guest performer. According to a report in The Guardian, the air strikes blew the roof off of the building where Roxolana’s crew were working.

The strikes wounded several of her crew members. Two were in critical condition following the strikes.

In a statement on her Instagram, Roxolana shared the following:
“Friends, we are currently in Vinnytsia. Unfortunately, at the time of the air strikes, a part of our team was on the main square. They are all wounded, two are fighting for their lives in the operating rooms. As a result, all performances and concerts are cancelled, and we are praying for the life of all who were hurt today.”

“We will never forgive. The money of the concert tickets will be returned. Please, pray.”

Several hours after the statement, Roxolana revealed that her sound engineer, Yevhen, had died as a result of the blast, while another team member remains in critical condition.

Roxolana and her team have received an outpouring of support from other artists in the Ukrainian music industry.

Among those who wrote messages of support were Eurovision 2022 winners Kalush Orchestra. But also Eurovision host Volodymyr Ostapchuk and song contest acts as Zlata Ognevich, Verka Serduchka and Tina Karol, who pledged moral support.

Roxolana had already visited more than half of the destinations on her tour. Only Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil and Zhytomyr remained.

Quote:

At least 24,000 refugees from Ukraine have found work in the Netherlands, according to the latest data. The UWV benefits agency reported the statistic on the basis of documents filed by employers. The Ukrainian people mainly found a job in the hospitality industry and through employment agencies. Most refugees started working in and around Amsterdam, and in the region around The Hague.

Since the beginning of June, UWV received new reports about 10,800 Ukrainians who entered the workforce. In April and May, there were 13,200 known to the benefits agency. Almost half of the refugees found a job through an employment agency. Ukrainians have often found work through the recruiters as production workers, warehouse staff, and cleaners. Many refugees also found work in the hospitality industry (12 percent), in agriculture and horticulture (8 percent) and business services (5 percent).

To a certain extent, Ukrainians have also provided some relief in sectors where there is a large shortage of people, according to UWV. About half of the people started working in a sector where there is a shortage of personnel.

Employers are not required to apply for a work permit for Ukrainian refugees. Since April, however, they must report to the UWV if they employ a refugee. In this way, the UWV hopes to identify and reduce the risk of exploitation. An employer may be fined for failing to report the hiring of a Ukrainian refugee.

If a refugee finds other work during their stay in the Netherlands, or if they stop working altogether, this must also be reported to UWV by the employer. This has happened 900 times since the end of May.

Ukraine war: Deal signed to allow grain exports to resume by sea

This is Good news
while it lasts.

[Ukraine and Russia have signed "mirror" deals
which will allow Kyiv to resume exports
of grain through the Black Sea.
The agreement will allow millions of tonnes of grain,
currently trapped in Ukraine by the war,
to be exported.
The world shortage of Ukrainian grain since
Russia's 24 February invasion has
left millions at risk of hunger.

However, Kyiv refused to sign a direct deal with Moscow,
and has warned "provocations" would be
met with "an immediate military response".

Ukrainian presidential aide Mykhaylo Podolyak
explained on Friday that the country would
instead sign an agreement with Turkey
and the United Nations (UN),
which have brokered the deal,
while Russia signed an identical agreement.]
