CAHILL: CLUBS ARE JEALOUS OF EVERTON
Tim Cahill believes Everton are the envy of other Premier League clubs after achieving continued success on a relatively small budget. The midfielder's form was a major factor in another good season for the Toffees as they finished fifth in the league and reached the FA Cup final, ultimately losing 2-1 to Chelsea at Wembley. The 29-year-old states that what the club lacks in finances, compared to the 'big four', they more than make up for in terms of hard work and passion. And the Australia international feels what David Moyes has achieved at Goodison Park with little resources has made him the envy of most top flight chairman. "When you see clubs like Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea spending their hundreds of millions and Arsenal you can understand why they are there and why, when they are not winning the Premier League they are getting questioned," he told Sky Sports News. "For ourselves spending £20 to £30million a season and our achievement I think a lot of other chairman will prefer to be doing what we're doing. "They see the manager and the players believing and wanting to play in every game. "Whether we have got knocks and kicks, the passion and the character what we show in every game." Cahill believes the team's character is best highlighted by them finishing the season strongly despite having the distraction of an FA Cup final in the back of their minds. "Everyone said we would fall away at the end of the season because we've got an FA Cup final to look at," he added. "But you've seen every player playing in every single game wanting to finish fifth. "We could have taken our foot of the gas and finished sixth and still qualified for Europe but as players it doesn't have the same ring to it if we'd finished sixth and it wouldn't have been as successful a season if we'd finished sixth." |
