Popstar To Opera Star continues on ITV1 tonight and we can’t wait to watch Delectable Darius once more. Although we are live blogging the show, we may be about an hour behind the rest of you, curse that awful Celebrity Big Brother!
We start with a tedious introduction of the judges. We know who Meat Loaf is! Move on please.

DANNY JONES
Like Darius, Danny Jones struggled with the whole singing in another language thing this week and after a crash course in Italian here repeatedly struggled with one particular phrase.
Although his performance wasn’t as technically good as either Darius’ or Kym’s, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that he will reach the final of the series. Danny has an army of McFly fans backing him and no doubt voting for him repeatedly!

Judges Comments
Katherine: Swoon!
Rolando: Danny you worked very hard and this was a dangerous piece for him. He really kept the operatic voice and I’m very proud of you.
Meat Loaf: Danny I applaud you, you were there every moment.
Lawrence: I thought that was a very mature performance. It was all about opera and pop Danny was left behind.

When we first heard that lots of celebs were going to be rounded up and taughtto sing opera for a new reality show, we admit, we didn't have very high hopes. However, with perhaps the exception of poor old Alex James (see video below), all the contestants did a really good job. Who knew Darius had such an impressive voice? And how beautiful did Vanessa from The Saturdays look in her princess dress? The biggest surprise of the night had to be McFly's Danny Jones, however, whose normal, growly rock voice was barely recognisable as he belted out this impressive performance. The girls in the audience were screaming, members of McFly (also in the audience) were almost crying tears of pride and lots ofy ou were going absolutely crazy on Twitter - especially when Danny ended with a nice grab of his crotch. Lovely stuff. Alex James did his best, bless him, but it ended up being more comedy than classical - and he was the first to be voted off. Have a watch of the two clips now and tell us YOUR views.

Popstar To Operastar: Voters Love Danny's Italian Job
SINGER Danny Jones is through to the next round of ITV1’s Popstar to Operastar show.
The Bolton musician was given rapturous applause from the audience after his Friday night performance. But before his song, Danny, whose normal day job is with boy band McFly, admitted he was having some language problems.
He said: “The hardest thing is learning the Italian. It is so hard, especially when you are from Bolton.” The 23-year-old even visited an Italian restaurant for a last-minute lesson. The Saturdays singer Vanessa White was voted off after appearing in the bottom two the previous week. The remaining contestants are Kym Marsh, Bernie Nolan, Jimmy Osmond, Darius Campbell and Marcella Detroit.

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, one of the world's leading sopranos, will head a panel of judges scouring the country for new opera stars, the best of whom will showcase their talents on BBC Radio 2.
The launch of The Radio 2 Kiri Prize comes as leading opera singers have heavily criticised ITV 1's latest reality television show, Popstar to Operastar, for "cheapening" opera.
The show features celebrities including Alex James, a guitarist with the band Blur, Danny Jones from the boy band McFly and Kym Marsh, the Coronation Street actress, attempting to sing opera to a judging panel including Katherine Jenkins, the classical singer, and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, the television presenter.
Last week, Ian Storey, a leading tenor, said of the show: "My colleagues are angry and incredulous about Popstar to Operastar. A number of singers feel insulted. Alex James' ... onstage rock antics ridiculed opera as an art and cheapened the work that serious opera performers put in to become a performer."
The soprano Rebecca Evans was equally scathing: "It takes years of hard graft and dedication to become an opera singer," she said. "The series will give the wrong impression."

Danny Jones from McFly has taken to twitter to highlight how close he is getting to Welsh opera star Katherine Jenkins during training for 'Popstar to Operastar'.
McFly's Danny Jones thinks Katherine Jenkins is a 'touchy-feely' teacher.
The Welsh opera diva is currently training Danny for 'Popstar to Operastar', and the 'Obviously' singer has taken to twitter to discuss Katherine's approach.
He said: "The teacher is touching me up."
Katherine, however, responded to the claims and said she has to get close to those she is teaching. The 29-year-old opera star said: "It is quite a physical thing we do. We do a lot of stuff with breathing and so I have to put my hands on the singers. But it's not like what Danny says on twitter. It wasn't like that. Honestly!"
Meanwhile, presenter Myleene Klass has hit out at critics of the show. The 31-year-old - a former student of the Royal Academy of Music - said those who dislike the reality show are "archaic". She told The Sun newspaper: "Criticising the show makes them feel a little bit important. But this archaic and prehistoric attitude is so boring. It shows how out of touch they are. It is such an obvious and easy route to take and I think a lot of it is to do with their age. If they are trying to protect a genre of music and keep it for a certain type of person, it just shows how antiquated their thinking is."

Myleene SLAMS Popstar To Operastar critics
http://www.heatworld.com/Celeb-News/...s--Wed-27-Jan/
Myleene Klass has hit back at critics of new celeb talent show Popstar To Operastar, branding them "boring" and "out of touch". The show, in which stars such as McFly's Danny Jones and Jimmy Osmond are taught opera, has been described by some high-brow music fans as "ghastly vulgar trash". Host Myleene is having none of it, though, saying furiously, "It just shows how out of touch they are. I think a lot of it is to do with their age. If they are trying to protect a genre of music and keep it for a certain type of person, it just shows how antiquated their thinking is." Well said, Myleene. We think PSTOS is brilliant.

After the public vote placed him and McFly singer Danny Jones in the bottom two, all four judges - Katherine Jenkins, Meat Loaf, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Villazon - decided Danny deserved to stay another week.

Following the decision, an emotional Jimmy said: 'My opera dreams have just begun. What a blast this has been. I'm going to go home and see my beautiful wife and four kids - they are opera to me. Opera is empowering, it's exciting and it's a way of getting in touch with your inner emotions. I have fallen in love with every person while taking part in this show.' Jones looked relieved at having been chosen to stay, particularly following a botched dress rehearsal earlier in the day where he had forgotten his lyrics.

Jimmy Osmond has become the third celebrity to be voted off Popstar to Operastar.
Facing McFly star Danny Jones in the bottom two, the nerves appeared on both of the singers faces.
All four judges chose to save Jones, Osmond now follows in the footsteps of fellow celebrities Alex James and The Saturday’s Vanessa White. After the verdict, Osmond told host Alan Titchmarsh and Myleen Klass that he enjoyed his experience however he couldn’t wait to get back to his family.
“I’ve had a blast,” he said. Jones sang the well-known opera song Time to Say Goodbye, luckily for him he wont have to say goodbye just yet as he will perform again next week. Now, five stars remain to battle it out on the show, which continues next Friday at 9pm on STV.
Who will be next celebrity to face the dreaded bottom two, find out next week?
Last updated: 30 January 2010, 00:03

But his visit to English opera star Russell Watson earlier in the week had clearly helped him, as he wowed his screaming fans with a performance of Con Te Partirò (Time To Say Goodbye).

Snobs Need a kick up all arias
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...t-critics.html
MYLEENE Klass has savaged snobby music critics who have slated her new show Popstar to Operastar, saying: "I will take them all on!" The presenter, 31, said she was furious with "ageing" pundits who have slammed the ITV1 show as "ghastly vulgar trash". The series features pop singers such as Kym Marsh and Jimmy Osmond attempting to learn opera. And former Royal Academy of Music student Myleene said of the snipers: "Criticising the show makes them feel a little bit important. But this archaic and prehistoric attitude is so boring. It just shows how out of touch they are. It is such an obvious and easy route to take and I think a lot of it is to do with their age."

Myleene - who fronts the ITV1 Friday night series with Alan Titchmarsh, 60 - also claimed that snooty critics NEED the popularity of crossover stars like Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts. She fumed to TV Biz: "Who do they think subsidises their baroque CDs, or is the reason they can continue to listen to renaissance albums? It is because popular artists subsidise them."

The beauty - whose grandmother was an opera singer - also laid into the moaners for claiming that the arias sung on the show are too easy. She insisted: "It is all very well them saying why don't they sing Wagner but everyone has to start somewhere." Myleene added: "If they are trying to protect a genre of music and keep it for a certain type of person, it just shows how antiquated their thinking is. It's easy for them to say this stuff from the comfort of their study but they should get up and have a go too. I'm willing to take on everybody!" The former Hear'Say singer went on: "If the critics thought about it they would see it's wonderful. They are finally getting a different genre of music on TV. These are pop stars who are trying to embrace a different way of singing."

Unreality TV
With all the Celebrity Big Brother final coverage, we managed to miss Popstar to Operastar last night, so we watched it today already knowing that Danny Jones ended up in the bottom two with Jimmy Osmond.
Listening to his performance, we’re not too surprised that the public didn’t rate him. much as we love Danny, he hasn’t got the chops for opera singing and his vocals are much weaker than some of his fellow contestants.

Judges Comments:
Katherine: “You found the energy and came out with some guts but I know you can do better.”
Rolando: “The bad news is that you were struggling technically all week and it was sometimes too much pop. The good news is you were nervous and you were still big on stage and that says a lot.”
Laurence: “I’m a huge fan of your voice and of most of your performances but that was B side . You didn’t engage with it in the same way but, as Rolando said, you fought so hard to make something of it and I’m extremely grateful.”

Popstar To Opera Star 2010 Betting Odds Have Danny Jones As Favourite With Jimmy Osmond Almost Certain To Go This Weekend

Friday 29 January 2010 at 13:02

Popstar To Opera Star 2010 Betting Odds have undergone many changes this week but Danny Jones remains the hot favourite to win whilst Jimmy Osmond looks a cert to be voted off this week.

Danny Jones Still Favourite But Darius Campbell And Kym Marsh FallDanny Jones, the frontman from popular band McFly, is the current favourite to win Popstar To Operastar and he can be backed at 3/1 with Betfred. He has always been the favourite to win and looks very solid at he head of the betting but there have been many other changes. Former second and third favourites, Darius Campbell and Kym Marsh, are now out to 9/2 with SkyBet and 5/1 with Paddy Power and Bet365 respectively. Two singers have jumped in front of them, the news second favourite is Bernie Nolan who is 4/1 with Bet365 and VC Bet whilst Marcella Detroit is 9/2 with Stan James but as short as 5/2 with SkyBet.
Jimmy Osmond The Complete Outsider But He Is Relatively Big Price To GoAll of this leaves just one more act, Jimmy Osmond. He is miles adrift of the other contenders and finds himself at 33/1 with SkyBet and Paddy Power and that means he is the hot favourite to leave the show this week. Bearing in mind how far he is off the other contenders he looks a very good price to go this week, he is available at 11/8 with VC Bet, Stan James and Bet365. Kym Marsh is next best in the elimination betting odds, she is 9/2 with Betfred and Coral. For more Popstar To Operastar Betting Odds click on any of the bookie links above.

Jimmy Osmond has become the latest casualty of Popstar To Operastar after losing out to McFly singer Danny Jones in the judges' vote.
The 70s chart-topper's luck ran out after he found himself in the bottom two for the second week running, after the remaining six celebrities had performed on Friday's show.
And for the first time this series the result was decided by judges' vote - with all four of them voting to save Jones.
However, Osmond insisted his dreams of performing opera were not over.
"You've got it all wrong," he told presenter Myleene Klass, "my opera dreams have just begun. What a blast this has been, I'm going to go home and see my beautiful wife and our four kids - that's opera to me."
"It's empowering, it's exciting, and it's a way of getting in touch with your inner self. And I have fallen in love with everyone on this contest."
Five celebrities - including Bernie Nolan, Kym Marsh, Darius Campbell and Marcella Detroit - remain in the competition.

Digital Spy
Jimmy Osmond has become the third contestant to be voted off Popstar To Operastar.
The former I'm A Celebity... star was placed in the bottom two alongside McFly's Danny Jones after the public vote.
The four judges were then asked to decide which singer was to remain in the competition. After some deliberation, all four selected Jones.
Following confirmation of his exit, Osmond told host Alan Titchmarsh that he enjoyed his stint on the show but was looking forward to returning home to his family. "I've had a blast!" he said.
Popstar To Operastar continues next Friday at 9pm on ITV1.

Popstar to Operastar: It’s not Time to Say Goodbye to singer Danny 9:00am Monday 1st February 2010
POP star Danny Jones almost jinxed himself when he sang Time To Say Goodbye in a celebrity TV talent contest.

The 23-year-old from Bromley Cross — singer and guitarist with pop band McFly — finished in the bottom two on ITV1’s Popstar to Operastar show on Friday. But he scraped through to week four after being spared by sympathetic judges, who instead said goodbye to fellow contestant Jimmy Osmond.

Danny chose the song made famous by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli, who took it to number 2 in the UK singles chart in 1997. Despite failing to lead the pack on Friday, Danny remains favourite of the remaining five artists to win competition. Betfred is offering odds of 3/1. Bernie Nolan, of the Nolan sisters, is second favourite.

Popstar To Opera Star Betting Odds See Marcella Detroit And Bernie Nolan Become Favourites
Monday 01 February 2010 at 11:29
Popstar To Operastar 2010 Betting Odds have been turned on their head over the weekend with former favourite Danny Jones now the complete outsider and Marcella Detroit and Bernie Nolan now the favourites to win.

Marcella Detroit And Bernie Nolan Now The Ones To BeatMarcella Detroit is now the narrow favourite to win Popstar To Operastar 2010, she is now rated at 7/4 with William Hill and Betfred despite not previously being considered a strong contender. Her performance over the weekend has clearly gone down well with the punters who have backed her into favouritism over Bernie Nolan, who is another to have previously been unconsidered. Nolan is now a 9/4 chance with Bet365 and Stan James and looks to have plenty going for her. The biggest move over the weekend was Danny Jones, the McFly frontman has drifted from 9/4 all the way out to 8/1 with Bet365 and Paddy Power.

Kym Marsh And Darius Campbell Now Look Unlikely WinnersThe other two contestants still in with a chance are Kym Marsh and Darius Campbell, both are closely matched in the Popstar To Operastar Betting Odds. Marsh is available at 11/2 with Bet365 and SkyBet whilst Campbell is 6/1 with SkyBet and Paddy Power. The drift on Danny Jones now makes him the most likely contender to leave next week, he is just 6/4 with Bet365 and Stan James to be eliminated next, ahead of Darius Campbell who is 5/2 with Bet365. Kym Marsh is also far from safe at 3/1 with Paddy Power and Stan James to go. For more Popstar To Opera Star 2010 Betting Odds click on any of the bookie links above.

Marcella Detroit Favourite On Popstar To OperastarHaving seen countless popstar wannabe auditions paraded on the X Factor and Britains Got Talent, watching the talented and less than able singers in their desperate search for fame and fortune, it is novel to see those who have had a successful career in the pop industry risk making complete fools of themselves on Popstar To Operastar.

The format had seemed like a recipe for disaster, with housewives favourite Alan Titmarsh at the helm and Meatloaf and Laurence Llewellyn Bowen as judges, it appeared that this might be a one off series that ITV would be keen to swiftly retire to the archives.

The critics are more flamboyant than informative but gravitas is leant to the proceedings with mentors, Katherine Jenkins and Rolando Villazon whose discipline and passion for their subject is compelling and infectious.

Their enthusiasm has certainly rubbed off on the contestants who may well have entered the competition to raise their flagging profiles and accept a handy cheque at the same time, but who seem to have truly entered into the Covent Garden Spirit.

Increase The Fun With A Free £50 bet with Paddy Power

Visibly apprehensive on the first show, the nerves effected performances across the board but with considerable hard work, as shown on the coaching footage, the Popstars are finding voices that neither they or the public ever thought was possible.

Marcella Detroit was impressive at the outset but now is clearly pulling away from her nearest rival Bernie Nolan. Her commanding voice in Shakespeare's Sister has found a new home in a range of Arias that have not only technical prowess but emotional force. In fact the women have all done well. No one would have thought that Kym Marsh from the unremarkable Hear Say would have found quite such a resonant voice.

The male contestants have not fared as well with only Darius, he of X factor fame and Danny Jones of McFly remaining. Danny led the Odds Table for a while but his young female fanbase seem to have abandoned him of late and he looks most likely to leave next.

Whilst those teenage texters may not have been compelled to stay with Danny or the programme, the experience has been refreshing Television. Seeing Celebrities not only attempting to learn a new skill but embracing and meeting a difficult challenge in the face of fragile egos has been good to watch. Only Laurence and Meatloaf and Alan need to be retired.

With a whole variety of Betting Options there is a good chance of improving the whole experience with a little flutter

Ask Danny anything (this is now closed)
http://www.heatworld.com/Entertainme...ones-anything/
When we first heard that McFly's Danny Jones was going to be taking part in Popstar To Operastar, we didn't know what to expect. However, over the past few weeks Danny has proved he has some serious operatic talent, and, if the screams are anything to go by, a lot of devoted female fans, too. Tomorrow morning, just because we're nice (and because we can), we're going to grab Danny for half an hour to ask him YOUR questions. How does he prepare his voice for all those long notes? What's happened to that pink jacket? Is Meat Loaf really as crazy as he looks? Get your McFly-addled caps on and post some questions below. We'll bring you all the answers and a brand new photo of Danny tomorrow.

Celebrity weddings are always a huge affair (especially if you work for OK! Magazine), so we thought we’d better get our gambling heads on and take a pop at who we think will be donning the white gowns and saying ‘I do’ this year.
That’s the question bookies Paddy Power are asking too as they take bets on who will be the first couple to tie the knot this year.
Who do you think it will be? Personally I’m praying Dougie Poynter see’s the light and comes knocking on my door… I wonder what the odds would be on that one?

MCFLY are ditching their guitar sound for a “Prince meets Jacko” style re-invention.
The boyband are working on their fifth opus and singer/ guitarist Danny Jones is planning to team his purple shoes with a diamanté-encrusted glove for a pop-funk direction.
He told me: “We’ve got the material and are building up the McFly massacre. The album’s an absolute killer. It’s got a Prince and Michael Jackson influence.”
Danny and bandmates, singer Tom Fletcher, drummer Harry Judd, both 24, and bassist Dougie Poynter, 22, are creating the album with BRIT-nominated Taio Cruz, 26, and US super producer Dallas Austin, 39.
Danny added: “Taio’s a really cool guy. We’ve written tracks with him and we’re now trying to get him to produce one. It was awesome working with Dallas as he’s a bit of a party boy – he thinks he’s our fifth member. He’s coming over to the UK to produce four or five of the songs.”
Meanwhile, Danny’s been rehearsing for ITV1’s Popstar To Operastar. The 23-year-old said: “It’s taken over my life. It’s out of my comfort zone and more nerve-racking than performing arena dates with the band. If I win I could maybe do a duets album with Susan Boyle – or get McFly to support me at the Royal Albert Hall.”
That I would like to see.

Danny Answers Heatworld
http://www.heatworld.com/Entertainme...OUR-questions/
http://www.heatworld.com/images/9303...Danny_main.jpg
Danny Jones is used to being on a stage surrounded by his three McFly bandmates and clutching a guitar, so it must be an odd transition for him to step out onto the stage on his lonesome every Friday night and sing opera. Still, being Danny, he's taken it all in his stride and is actually doing an amazing job. When we met him yesterday for a chat at the London Studios he looked exhausted, yes, but full of enthusiasm for the challenge ahead. "I'm dreaming opera," he admitted. "It's taken over my life!" We also found out a tiny bit of info about those secret projects, but Danny wasn't giving much away. "The album will be summer time," he said. "There's a couple of secret projects. Tom's got one, Dougie's got one. I need to get one! Harry's just learning his drums every day, that's his secret project." Danny's the only one of the Popstar To Operastar contestants to have screaming girls in the audience every week, and he can't thank his fans enough. As promised, we asked him as many of your questions as we could, even though most of them were about him getting naked! Read the full interview below and make sure you tune in to watch Danny in action tonight. You might even spot an excited heatworlder or two in the audience...

Popstar To Operastar, tonight, ITV1, 9pm

NickyLovesMcFly asks: What's the hardest thing about singing opera?
The language, definitely. It's getting the placement and the Italian that are my weaknesses.

skyfullofstars asks: What's it like backstage on PSTOS? Does everyone get along well or is there a bit of rivalry?
At first, we used to all get a bit of lunch and have dinner together, but as it's got more serious we stay in our dressing rooms and practice. It's getting more intense now. Everyone's really nice, it's fine.

McFrankie asks: What's your definition of swoon?
Jude Law is swoon. He walks past girls and they're like...phwoar. I didn't know what swoon meant at first.

PascaleDeBom asks: Do you think you're achieving your goal to make opera music cool?
YES! If you go and see a good opera it's like watching an amazing musical. Opera seems really intimidating. I really wanna go, I'm going to start going. Maybe they'll ask me to be in one...?

McFloor asks: If you could have a super-power for one day, what would it be?
This week...to be the best opera singer ever! [Laughs.] I'd like to be the strongest man in the world, but to go and break up fights. I'd go into riots and go...'NO'. I'd love to have the power to just stop a thousand men.

PascaleDeBom asks: Does having the other McFly boys in the audience every week distract you?
When I'm singing I don't really look because I'm in the moment, but around the show I always look at them and give them high-fives and stuff. It's quite funny.

skyfullofstars asks: What's the one thing that makes you smile?
The boys trying to sing opera! They are funny - and they're all rubbish. I didn't have enough time to teach them, really. I just put them through the paces and what I've been through, like, fish impressions and stuff [stops and opens and closes his mouth like a fish]. You have to do a lot of that in opera.

paulaamorimf asks: How is your throat doing with all the singing?
I am feeling a bit under the weather today. I'm getting aches, I've got a sore throat and my ears are blocked. I dunno what's wrong with me. I think I'm just getting a bit run down.

Loreeen asks: What are the 5 things you can't live without?
Something I can do without is my dog s****ing on my kitchen floor! He just doesn't get it. Wee outside, dude! Anyway, what are the five things I can't live without? Music! Family...erm...my toaster. Sex, because that's natural for a man. And...Vanilla lattes.
heatworld: Not McFly?!
Oh...s**t! Can I have six? Or McFly and sex on the same line.

RebeccaMasters asks: You're pretty busy at the moment, rehearsing for PSTOS and keeping up with McFly and arranging future plans. How do you manage to cope with it all?
It's quite tough, actually. I try to fit in McFly because we've just started to record. You're up at 9, you're here till 5, then you go home and have dinner and by that time it's like 6/7 and you just sort of wanna chill. I've not even been going to the gym or anything, which I wanna do. I did fit in football in the other night.

NikiNoo asks: How do you get your teeth so perfect?
Teeth?! They're not perfect. I've got a little invisible brace, can you see it? [Opens his mouth wide so we can peer in.]
heatworld: Um, no...

StarGirlALA asks: What's the thing you're most proud of?
The new McFly album. We've got the materials and now we're just building it. The McFly massacre!

ShaunaLee asks: Describe your PSTOS experience in one word.
Interesting...

carolineeilovemcfly asks: Will McFly get naked on the next tour? PLEASE!!
We'll only get naked if I get time to go to the gym before the tour. The boys have been working out without me while I've been doing the opera. I need to catch up - I've lost my six-pack!

LetitSnow asks: Would you turn a McFly song into an opera-McFly song?
It would be quite cool, that. With this new secret project, there's going to be opportunities for stuff like that. For stuff like that it's going to be great.

keetkeets asks: How much would you charge if I were to hire you to sing opera?
I dunno. Because I'm out of my comfort zone I'd have to double my price. Depends how many songs, too. Hiring the whole band would cost 90 grand...in cash!

Farewell Jimmy! That can only be only be described as a Viking funeral of a performance that will live in our hearts forever.

There really wasn’t a dry eye in the house as he finally turned his back on Las Vegas, Nevada and pointed resolutely in the direction of La Scala Milan. Yes I know technically there was a lot that could have been better but to me the point was that the performance wasn’t the non-stick, slick slippery perfection of his frankly cheesy Volare last week. Don’t get me wrong, I dig cheese and as far as Volare’s go, Mr Osmond’s Volare would make my ideal ring tone.

Katherine actually went as far as to suggest that every time I walked into a room it should be piped to accompany me. But it was wonderful to see this hard-working, seasoned performer slide under the skin of showbiz and find a whole new world of pulsating, dangerously-emotional opera.

But the really big news was not the performances but the brownies. Having tantalised us for far too long, Katherine Jenkins finally came in with an Emma Bridgewater cake tin full of brownies. It brought rehearsals to a standstill as the whole studio crew swooped as one like a flock of carrion crows attracted by the whiff of Dame Jenkins' chocolately offering.

On matters culinary we all received a present from beyond the Opera star grave. Everyone’s favourite floppy-fringed, pop prefect Alex James sent us all a brown cardboard box with our own individual portion of one of his finest blue vieners. In fact as I blog, the powerful wafts of Alex’s prize-winning cheese are making me feel extremely hungry.

We’re now of course half way through the contest and the game is hotting up . There were some staggering performances - Marcella having been rather defeated by gravity with her concrete winged butterfly last week soared to celestial heights with an extraordinarily accomplished Queen of the Night cunningly accessorised by a barnet of twisted blue dreadlocks.

Bernie, who is rapidly becoming the safe pair of hands in our operatic tournament, turned in a text-book very nearly professional standard Cherubino from Mozart's hit-packed rom-com, Marriage of Figaro; Kym made a compelling but rather too posh Carmen. I wonder whether she was a bit too distracted by her fan? Whilst Darius, in the words of my esteemed, critical colleague Lord Loaf of Meatfordshire, used the medium of operatic aria to sell Condos in Granada.

But it was Danny McFly who struggled this week and ended up alongside the late-lamented Jimmy in the bottom two. I had a brief moral struggle but I decided to save Danny to fight another day because I feel he does have the potentially to show us all an extraordinarily vigorous operatic talent.

As Rolando said, the song was bringing him down but like the boy standing on the burning deck he wasn’t going to give in and although it was a very flawed performance, he used every single fibre of his being to try and turn it around.

So onward and upward, week four comes into view and the entire production team and I have made a secret pact to ensure that Mighty Meatloaf is denied the blue smarties which we hope will mean that this week he stays in his seat.

Where there's one member of McFly, there's bound to be another three not far away - and tonight the whole band will be appearing on Popstar To Operastar. As well as practising practically in his sleep, Danny Jones also made time to teach Tom, Dougie and Harry a spot of opera this week - and the results are hilarious. Let's just say we think it's highly unlikely that the boys will be including any operatic tracks on their new album this summer... Still, watching them belt one out on tonight's show is going to be very amusing. And just what are they doing with their arms in this picture?! Make sure you tune in to find out.

Touchy Feely Katherine Jenkins
Credit @NewsOnMcFly

Heatworld In For A Treat (Friday)

Where there's one member of McFly, there's bound to be another three not far away - and tonight the whole band will be appearing on Popstar To Operastar. As well as practising practically in his sleep, Danny Jones also made time to teach Tom, Dougie and Harry a spot of opera this week - and the results are hilarious. Let's just say we think it's highly unlikely that the boys will be including any operatic tracks on their new album this summer... Still, watching them belt one out on tonight's show is going to be very amusing. And just what are they doing with their arms in this picture?! Make sure you tune in to find out.
