Arctic Monkeys have revealed that they plan to start recording their next album as soon as their US tour finishes next month.

Speaking to NME Radio, the group affirmed that they are eager to start work on the follow-up to last year's Humbug now, rather than take time off.

"We've said we'll stop touring this album and we're eager to start working on new stuff again, not have time off again," explained drummer Matt Helders.

He added that the band are eyeing a return for Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme as producer, although it is currently uncertain whether both parties will be free at the same time.

"It's hard to say, both parties are up for it but they have a lot going on around the time we'd need to be recording," he said. "But we'd like to."

Echoing his bandmate's enthusiasm, frontman Alex Turner revealed that they have already started work on new material, adding: "We haven't tied our shoelaces yet, so it's hard to say [what it would sound like]. There's a few things we've been playing around together and we've spoke about how we might go about it. We haven't started walking yet, the laces are undone, never mind dancing."

Alex Turner has said that there are presently no plans for side-project The Last Shadow Puppets to return to the studio.

The Arctic Monkeys frontman, who recorded debut The Age Of The Understatement alongside former Rascals singer Miles Kane in 2008, admitted that it is unlikely the duo will return for some time.

When quizzed about the group's upcoming plans on Absolute Radio, he replied: "I wouldn't have thought so, no. Miles has just kind of completed his record, so that will sort of tie him up for a bit I think. Yeah, I don't think so."

Arctic Monkeys played at London's Royal Albert Hall venue on Saturday in aid of charity Teenage Cancer Trust. Turner revealed that he was looking forward to his family travelling down to see the band perform.

He added: "Yeah, it's the one isn't it, to bring them down to? My mum and dad are coming. It's got big heritage, but yeah, obviously it's amazing.

"It makes a difference when you play in a place that looks nice as well, inside, where it's like traditional."

Been listening to Favourite Worst Nightmare and Humbug, sickkkkkkkkkkk albums. Songs like Brianstorm and Teddy Picker were sooooo underrated as singles.

Iceman 20-04-2010 10:48 PM

yeah, brianstorm was such a great single, shame they do little or no promotion they might get higher in charts but i really dont think thats their overall aim to be honest.

InOne 20-04-2010 10:58 PM

Indeed, I don't think anyone can say they're bad albums or anything. Maybe it was the fans not making the effort!! lol

King Gizzard 20-04-2010 10:59 PM

they both are awful in comparison to the first

I just not fond of the direction of the third album...its not why i liked them in the first place...they style the music all changed too suddenly for me.

They can't be talking about the stuff they were talking about in the first album though, especially when they got big and that. Or is the sound you're meaning?

Iceman 20-04-2010 11:10 PM

I mean the sound, it got very heavy and different too quick for me i would have liked something in between first...

InOne 20-04-2010 11:16 PM

Yeah but they are still good tunes though, that's all that matters. Their stuff of the 2nd and 3rd album is better than most of the ****e that is out there now.

Iceman 20-04-2010 11:18 PM

very true rather listen to that album than nearly everything at the moment haha

InOne 20-04-2010 11:20 PM

Florence And The Machine are the leading act in this year's Mojo Honours List with nominations in four categories.

Florence Welch's band has been nominated for 'Breakthrough Act', 'Best Album', 'Best Live Act' and 'Song Of The Year' for 'You've Got The Love', according to the BBC.

Kasabian are up for three prizes, under 'Best Live Act', 'Song Of The Year' for 'Fire' and 'Best Album' for 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum'.

Richard Hawley and the Arctic Monkeys have two nominations each, with both nominated for 'Best Song', for 'Open Up Your Door' and 'Crying Lightning', respectively.

Hawkwind are to receive the 2010 'Mojo Maverick' award.

"Despite the fact that they have rarely flirted with the mainstream, their music and their attitude has inspired so many different areas of modern music," said Mojo's editor-in-chief, Phil Alexander.

The winners will be voted for by readers of Mojo magazine, and will be revealed in a ceremony on June 10 in London.

not at the moment....they were supposed to record an album last year for release but they didnt (to my knowledge) never know though....age of the understatement was put together in 2 months so they could release an album this year but with arctics planning on a latter end of year release its doubtful :(

Shaun 05-05-2010 12:39 AM

Aaaah. Fingers crossed it's better than Humbug. Though Crying Lightning has FINALLY grown on me [a bit too late though]

Iceman 05-05-2010 12:44 AM
