Ruud grateful for fan reaction

Quote:

Ruud van Nistelrooy admits he was “grateful” to receive such a rousing reception from Manchester United supporters during Sunday’s legends game with Real Madrid.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...33,1,2712,1629

The once prolific striker was a firm favourite during his five season stay at Old Trafford but left under a cloud following a dispute with manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Of course, the pair have since made up and the Dutchman was recently in attendance at the boss’s statue unveiling in November.

However, playing at Old Trafford again was another step up for Van Nistelrooy, whose presence prompted rapturous applause from the terraces as he represented both sides even scored for United during the entertaining charity affair.

“I am very grateful for the reception,” Ruud told MUTV, when asked how much he enjoyed the fan reaction. “For me, it meant a lot to come back to be back here, stepping on the pitch again. I was even lucky enough to score in front of the Stretford End again.

“I left all of a sudden after five years and that was a big awkward, so to come back and play a game again was great. I wanted to thank the fans for all of their support over the years while I was here and their reaction was just a fantastic bonus.

“I really looked forward to coming back and playing here again. It was a fantastic day and playing a half for each side was fantastic, it was great to line up with all of these brilliant players. Everyone enjoyed it and it was a good day for a great cause.”

As for the match itself, which ended in a 2-1 win for Real Madrid, Ruud was happy with his performance and felt United were on the verge of
stealing a victory until Ruben de la Red's finely chipped finish put a full stop on proceedings.

“I think we went for it," he explained. “At 1-1, we were pushing for the win and the crowd were behind us. Dwight Yorke hit the bar and it looked like we were going to knick it, but then at the other end it was a fantastic chip – he really dinked it in, it was a fantastic finish. But I think everybody won today.

“It was fantastic. It was like nothing had changed, we were linking up and combining together. Scholesy was there and he drove the team on as the fittest of all of us. It was fantastic.”

Nice words by Ruud:).

Sharpe: Moyes is the right man

Quote:

Lee Sharpe has backed David Moyes to succeed as Manchester United manager, citing the many similarities between the Scot and Sir Alex Ferguson as reasons.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...n=92,0,565,353

The former Everton boss will officially take over at Old Trafford on 1 July following his predecessor’s retirement from football, beginning the most-anticipated managerial reign since Wilf McGuinness famously replaced Sir Matt Busby in 1969.

And Sharpe, who was one of Sir Alex’s earliest signings in 1988, believes the changing of the guard at the Theatre of Dreams will be completely seamless due to a sensible, intelligent appointment.

“I think it is going to be a smooth transition and business as usual,” the ex-Reds winger told ManUtd.com after Sunday’s Red Heart United match with Real Madrid.

“David Moyes is very similar to the young Alex Ferguson who first came to the club. He is hungry, driven, he has a lot of discipline and I think he will blend straight in.

“He will be a bit surprised by the actual size of the club when he turns up for pre-season and sees the amount of fans we have around the world. But I think he is going to be fine and I think he is the right man for the job.”

Fabio: QPR lacked team spirit

Quote:

Fabio has analysed his loan spell with Queens Park Rangers and summised that the recently relegated team did not share the team spirit that engulfs everybody at Manchester United.

http://www.manutd.com/~/media/F2302D...0,228,2057,992

The Brazilian full-back spent the entire 2012/13 season at Loftus Road and was a relative success, despite the club’s plight, starting 15 matches and coming off the bench eight times during a campaign that was also undermined by a couple of niggling injuries.

However, the Da Silva sibling admits his temporary stay in West London didn’t quite go to plan, despite the best efforts of boss Harry Redknapp and QPR’s passionate fanbase.

“It didn't go the way I wanted,” Fabio is quoted in the Daily Mail. “We had a bad start, lost confidence and never got back on track. Redknapp tried hard but it was too late. Of course, there were too many changes at the club - too many new players.

“I don't think the team were together. Everyone wanted to do his best but they played for themselves as individuals, not as a team. In the end, the atmosphere was bad - but not from the fans. I have to say they supported us right to the end.”

The left-back now hopes to usurp Patrice Evra and cement a first team place like his twin brother Rafael, upon his return to M16 on 1 July. Of course, David Moyes will also officially arrive on the same date and Fabio has plenty of respect for the incoming Scot who is taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson.

“From every kid to the top player, Sir Alex has been everything at the club. But David Moyes has a great reputation; 11 years at one team like he's done with Everton is also remarkable these days.”

Refreshing honesty from Fabio:).

De Gea is here to stay

Quote:

David De Gea has admitted to facing difficulties since joining Manchester United in 2011, but insists he is loving life in M16 and has absolutely no desire to leave.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...=104,0,837,547

The 22-year-old goalkeeper enjoyed an excellent second season with the Reds, winning his first Barclays Premier League title whilst earning a place in the PFA’s prestigious Team of the Year. He even finished third in the running for the fan-voted Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.

Despite all of this, the former Athletico Madrid star has been linked with a move back to Spain, although De Gea was quick to rubbish such wild speculation whilst on international duty this week: “I have a contract,” he told local media. “I feel more and more happy at United.

“I faced normal difficulties - a new country, language, a different league - but through hard work I managed to adapt. I am very happy in Manchester.”

During a brief interview, De Gea also explained why it will feel odd to head into pre-season without the recently retired Sir Alex Ferguson but insists he is completely behind David Moyes.

“I felt great sadness when I heard about Ferguson's goodbye,” David said. “It will be strange not to see him on the bench or on the training ground. He is everything at Manchester United. He is Manchester United.

“Moyes had done a great job at Everton and now all of us have to support him. To substitute Ferguson is a huge target but if they chose him to do it, it is because he is prepared.”

I think DDG has done well to adapt and great to hear how happy he is at the club again:cool:.

Rio testimonial details confirmed

Quote:

Manchester United will face Sevilla at Old Trafford on Friday, 9 August in Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial match.

http://www.manutd.com/~/media/49F92A...=19,61,600,277

The 34-year-old, who recently penned a one-year contract extension, will start his 12th season at the club with a showpiece match against the La Liga side ahead of the Reds' Community Shield clash with Wigan Athletic.

"This is going to be a big night for me as well as an emotional one," said Rio. "I cannot believe where those ten years have gone and I am lucky to have spent them here at Manchester United.

"This club is unique in every way, the history and drive of the place is unbelievable, it spurs everyone to succeed. The fans are the best in the world, their commitment is amazing and I have appreciated their support throughout my career. I hope they enjoy the night as much as I intend to."

Having signed Ferdinand from Leeds in 2002 and overseen the defender's entire Old Trafford career to date, Sir Alex Ferguson said: "It is great that the club are granting Rio a testimonial for his services to the club.

"He is one of the best central defenders this club has seen. Rio has a natural ability to read the game and I said last month that I believed that this season has been the best of his Manchester United career. It will be a fantastic night for him and the fans, but it also gets next season’s campaign off to a great start."

The testimonial will kick off at 7:30pm, and tickets are now available.

RIO:worship:, he is a class act and deserves this testimonial match for all the years of service he has given to United so far and it should be a great night!
