O’Connor shows the inquiry some entries from Sir Patrick Vallance’s diaries from 2020

In the first, Vallance says the PM is “obsessed with older people accepting their fate and letting the young get on with life and the economy going”.

Another entry says: “He says his party ‘thinks the whole thing is pathetic and Covid is just Nature’s way of dealing with old people – and I am not entirely sure I disagree with them’.”

A third entry, from December 2020, reads: "Chief whip says 'I think we should let the old people get it and protect others’. PM says ‘a lot of my backbenchers think that and I must say I agree with them’."

Cain says the PM was concerned about society as a whole, but some of the language is not “what I would have used”.

Scandalous..

All these still former Cabinet ministers of Johnson's have to share some responsibility for the shocking tone and rhetoric on this from Johnson AND the element of his more ignorant backbenchers .

Although how disgraceful too that people like Patrick Vallance didn't highlight this when he stood side by side with the odious creep Johnson on the daily presentations on TV.

Patrick couldn't have done that. It would have made him political where he was supposed to be all about the science

That then is and should be really frightening.

On a vital and serious issue as the pandemic.

Cobra provide advice. The government then weigh that up and take action. That is how it must work in a democracy

The fact that we had a nutter in charge that wanted to subject all the elderly to a painful and humiliating end, is up to the people who voted for them in the first place

"Quite frankly, I don't care about which expletives certain Government advisers decided to use on certain days.

I care about the millions of children who had large parts of their childhood stripped away from them.

Or the young parents too frightened or unable to get a tumour checked.

Or the thousands forced to die alone.

Or the victims of domestic abuse, locked away with their abuser.

Or the small business owners, forced into bankruptcy.

Or the vast numbers of people suffering, and often dying, in pain at home without sufficient medical help

Or the tens of millions who had their lives cruelly put on hold, entirely unnecessarily.

I could go on and on and on.

This inquiry is asking all the wrong questions, and is failing the countless people failed by lockdowns"

Professor Karol Sikora

Well said that man.

Former health secretary Matt Hancock wanted to decide "who should live and die" if the NHS was overwhelmed, the Covid inquiry has heard.

The revelation came to light in evidence presented by Sir Simon Stevens, the former NHS England chief.

In his witness statement, he said Mr Hancock thought he, not doctors or the public, should decide who to prioritise if hospitals became overwhelmed.

Sir Simon said: "Fortunately this horrible dilemma never crystallised."
