No Fergie, no let-up, claims Robin van Persie as Manchester United enter Moyes era

Quote:

Forget the hairdryer, Sir Alex Ferguson was a cuddly knight too claims RVP before insisting that the trophy lust is undiminished.

http://i4.mirror.co.uk/incoming/arti...ue-1832100.jpg

Robin van Persie says Manchester United will not allow their standard to drop - just because Sir Alex Ferguson has retired.

Ferguson kept United at the top - domestically and in Europe - for more than two decades but has now handed power over to his successor David Moyes.

Van Persie, whose 30 goals in his debut season helped United clinch the title last season, said he and his team-mates were relishing the new era under Moyes.

"It's a challenge and everybody knows what our standard is," said van Persie.

"We want to win the league again and then, hopefully, add one or two trophies to that.

"Hopefully next year we can win the double, or even more. It will be a new era and I'm looking forward to it.

"It's part of our job. We have to deal with a new situation. That's how it is."

Van Persie said his maiden title triumph, at the age of 29, had made him more determined to add to his trophy haul with United.

Prior to moving to Old Trafford, the Holland striker's only honour in the English game was winning the 2005 FA Cup with Arsenal, ironically against United.

http://i4.mirror.co.uk/incoming/arti...ld-1887220.jpg

But van Persie is determined to make up for lost time on the honours front and said: "I want more now.

"I want more medals now because I now know how it feels. It gives you the taste for more.

"First we can enjoy what we've achieved this year. Then you start to think about next season and, of course, we're looking forward to it.

"We have a new manager - maybe new players coming in. Wilfried Zaha is coming from Crystal Palace and there may be more, there may be some leaving, no-one knows."

Van Persie only worked with Ferguson for one season but said his short time working with the legendary United boss had left an indelible mark on him.

And van Persie said the combative, fired-up Ferguson the world sees on the touchline was not an accurate and rounded portrayal of the former United boss.

"It's made such an impact on me that I couldn't see coming before I signed," said van Persie.

"He made it even more special than I thought it would be.

"Not only by his skills as a manager but by the way he is as a person, the way he works with his players and the honesty and the winning mentality.

"The word 'winning' came along so many times in his meetings.

"It's only been a year but it has been a year of incredible impact on me which has meant so much. I am proud to have been able to work with him.

"I always thought he was a winner.

"If you're a winner and want to achieve things you sometimes have to be direct and tell the truth where it's needed but that's the way to win and so I wasn't surprised about him.

"But when you see him from an outside point of view you maybe see 20 per cent of Sir Alex.

"You see him on the touchline. You see him shouting at the referee, you see him wanting to win.

"That's your picture of him in that moment. But we saw him every day.

"You see him chatting with the boys, you see him in meetings and how he works.

"He's a man who puts his arm around you if you are having a hard time.

"He gives you confidence. He always defends you towards the outside world. He will always defend his players.

"We're lucky to have seen what most people cannot see.

"He's one of the best managers in the world, maybe the best and one of the friendliest people I have met in my life and that tells you the whole story about him."

Too right RVP the new era is exciting, but spot on about the legend that is Sir Alex Ferguson:).

Manchester United's Javier Hernandez happy in Premier League

Quote:

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has no intention of leaving the club, according to his agent.

http://e1.365dm.com/13/05/660x350/he...20130519173940

Chicharito, as he is affectionately known, could be considered the club's fourth-choice striker with Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck all making more Premier League appearances in their race to reclaiming the title.

But the 25-year-old still claimed 10 goals in 22 Premier League outings, which has attracted the attention of a number of clubs across Europe.

The Mexico forward's representative, Eduardo Hernandez, says his client is going nowhere.

"He is very happy at Manchester United. Javier has been there three years and has won the league twice. Not many can say they have achieved that," he said.

Great news:). Chicharito is awesome, a humble guy and has a bright future at United for many years to come!

Kagawa reaches World Cup

Quote:

Shinji Kagawa's Japan clinched qualification for next year's World Cup finals with a 1-1 draw against Australia.

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...=0,157,800,454

The match in Saitama ended all square to assure Japan of a top-two spot in Group B of the Asian qualifying section with a game to spare.

Kagawa twice came close to opening the scoring inside a couple of second-half minutes, forcing a save out of Mark Schwarzer and then chipping the Fulham keeper from a difficult angle but seeing the intelligent effort come back off the woodwork.

Tommy Oar's mis-hit cross handed the Socceroos the lead with only eight minutes remaining but Keisuke Honda kept his nerve to convert an injury-time penalty to clinch the point required for Alberto Zaccheroni's team to progress to Brazil.

"We had our fans worried and it was a relief that Keisuke scored," Shinji admitted afterwards, before outlining his aims for next summer's showpiece.

"I didn't play in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa," he added. "I will keep doing my best to improve this year so I can play in the finals."

Well done to Japan and Shinji Kagawa:).

Manchester United poised to seal move for Guillermo Varela

Quote:

http://e1.365dm.com/13/05/660x350/Gu...20130517084327

Manchester United are set to tie up a deal for Uruguayan starlet Guillermo Varela, his club Penarol have confirmed.

Varela spent time on trial at Old Trafford at the end of last season and he is know to have impressed United's coaching staff.

Now the 20-year-old full-back is flying to England to finalise the move for a reported £1million fee.

Penarol club treasurer Rodolfo Catino is travelling with Varela to conclude the deal on their behalf.

He Tweeted on Wednesday: "In San Pablo airport waiting for the connection to London, with Guille [Varela] about to board."

Interesting:). He will probably be used in the U-21's because United have moved a few players on and are rebuilding the squad.

Sir Bobby: 60 years a Red

Quote:

Sir Bobby Charlton's incredible Manchester United journey began on this day, 60 years ago.

http://www.manutd.com/~/media/0FBAC3...606T1122594764

Charlton, then a fresh-faced 16-year-old, had attracted the attention of the club's scouts and it was on 6 June 1953 he reported for his first day's work.

Bobby was taken on as an apprentice and, in between training sessions, worked with the ground staff to maintain the Old Trafford pitch. It was the beginning of one of the most successful careers in English football.

With United, Charlton won three league titles, the FA Cup and the European Cup in 1968, 10 years after surviving the Munich air disaster, a tragedy that claimed 23 lives, including eight of his team-mates and best friends. When Charlton ended his Reds career he was the club's leading scorer, with 249 goals (a record that still stands).

In his autobiography, published in 2007, Sir Bobby recalled his first days at Old Trafford.

"It seemed I had, after all, been given access to my idea of paradise. I had the friendship of great young footballers who were ready to accept me and so clearly shared my passion to play the game that had always been an inspiration. The days stretched ahead of me so excitingly."

New kit: Pride & prestige

Quote:

Rio Ferdinand, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck sat down recently to talk about what it means to pull on the famous red shirt of Manchester United...

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...n=96,1,496,600

Ferdinand: “It’s hard to put into words what it means to wear the shirt. Each year you put the new kit on and see how it feels. I see how the socks feel, most importantly, because your feet have to be comfortable. You don’t want the shorts to be too tight or the shirt to be too heavy. In the past we’ve had a few baggy kits, especially when I first signed, but each year they’ve got a little bit more snug, which I personally prefer when you’re out on the pitch. When you see the red kit it brings a smile to your face and you feel proud. It’s about trying to replicate the club’s history. That’s the biggest thing for me. I said when I signed for the club that I wanted to become a part of its great history, an integral part, and to do that you’ve got to wear this beautiful kit.”

Welbeck: “It’s always a proud moment to pull on the shirt especially given the fact I’m a Manchester boy. I’ve supported the club all my life and to have come through the ranks and got into the first-team is a real privilege and honour. This club has so much history and there have been so many fantastic memories created by the players who have represented this club, past and present. It’s just great to be part of it.”

Cleverley: “It’s an iconic shirt. The club’s always worn red for as long as I can remember, and even before that going back to the likes of legends like George Best and Denis Law. It’s a shirt I’ve wanted to pull on since I was a boy and you get a real sense of achievement when you do it. Hopefully I can still be wearing the red shirt of Manchester United for many years to come. I’m a fan of [this season’s kit]. It’s traditional, it’s quite plain but I like the red, white and black and I like the collar on it. The most important thing is the fit, though. As long as you feel comfortable and it’s the right size – not too tight and you’re free to do what you need to do on the pitch – that’s the most important thing."

I really like the new top too!
