For the first time in the process, Saul was put to work. His prolonged absence at the fatal fire raised suspicion, and this, coupled with his rather silent role in the preliminary investigations of Damien, resulted in a lack of faith from his colleagues. Iris - someone who'd been bossed around by Saul since the investigation's inception - took a little delight in giving Saul this new duty: to investigate the ruins. She decided that Harry, the only detective left alone with the nightguard prior to his murder, should also be separated from the rest of the group. The night of the fire saw both tragedy and breakthrough: Damien had broken down overnight and confessed to the multiple homicides of Joan, Tina, Kara, Pete, Aiden, Robert and Ethan, after he was presented with irrefutable evidence that he'd had access to the prison cells the night of Tina's live, televised murder. This confession, as vital to that case as it was, presented a new problem: there was a new killer on the loose. Iris dismissed everyone else for the night and informed the two detectives to report back to the new headquarters - somewhat out of town - if they found anything. Harry and Saul arrived at the burnt-out building and were briefed by forensic pathologists and construction workers. They were given safety hats and fluorescent jackets, and resolved between them to investigate separate locations: Saul would examine the control room, whilst Harry would take a look at the fifth floor where Aaron was shot, and the fourth, where Georgia was killed. |
Urgh, I hate drunk $ girl.

Much older than Omar, Saul wondered why he hadn't investigated the power supply room in place of him that night. Flashbacks and horrible images had interrupted his sleep ever since, and despite protests and comfort from Omar and Adrian, he couldn't help but think that he might have been able to do something useful rather than wait around in the office spaces in total darkness.
The ground floor was largely untouched save for some smoke damage, and large black stains along the dividing walls. He followed the rainbow-coloured signposts and came to the control room, and opened. Inside was very grey, but there was no damage at all. As Saul took a seat at the control panel, he had a horrible thought that Omar could've tampered with the controls when he was supposed to fix the power cut, and had started the fire himself. He made a mental note of this and checked the timers - the fuses were timed to increase by about 10,000 volts at 9:30pm, the exact time the power died. He realised this narrowed the chances of Omar doing it after the power cut, but this didn't rule out anyone at some point during the day. He tried desperately to recall the events of that afternoon but kept finding it difficult to remember past the fire. Everyone worked relatively close together but obviously toilet breaks, personal phone calls, lunches and coffee breaks interfered with this. He remembered that Destiny was the last to turn up to work, but this wasn't uncommon. She usually had some excuse about her car or boyfriend - was it Jared? Insufferable woman. He yawned and realised that there was nothing here of any use if the team had been unable to find any prints or DNA - other than Omar's of course. More confused than when he started the night, he decided to have a look around the ground floor. |
Scaffolding held up large sections of the fourth floor, which was virtually unrecognisable to Harry. Charred office space and rubble from the ceiling above was strewn around the room, and he noticed white marking tape around the area where Georgia had been found. Small yellow laminates were placed here and there to denote potential areas of interest, and he began to observe them. The number 4 was found beside a polaroid of a burnt handbag that had been found, but sent off for analysis. Striding carefully over some debris, he found a number 11 in the kitchen and immediately recognised this bloodstain from where Faye had dropped the kettle and cut her foot. He wrote this clue off.
He'd spent so much time and work in this area, trying to pin the case on anyone who looked remotely suspicious. He enjoyed his work, and found the majority of his colleagues good fun - the idea that one of them might want to kill him never occured to him, which was rather unfortunate because someone stood right behind him, at that moment, drove a metal pole straight through his chest. |
By the time Saul could even begin to suspect that something was wrong, the Killer had fled outside the right-hand side of the building, where Georgia's slow ascent had cost her dearly just nights before. Saul radioed Harry whining and wanting to go, but got no response. He was a little wary of structural damage but decided to ascend a couple of floors, but when he took his first step up, a small drip of red liquid fell on his forehead. He called for back-up.

JH! :(
Well done on surviving Novo. The more active player survived, the killer made a good choice. |
Ben am I to understand that you are the team leader for this? I can't wait around for the group to decide but I think it was generally agreed :p
