Wenger: Fantastic Arsenal doesn't need to sell best players

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says the club's sound finances means he doesn't need to sell any of his players.

He said: "We do not have to sell because we have a balanced budget. I believe that what is important at this stage is to keep the players you have.

"People think it is a disaster to get to the semi-finals of the Champions League and the FA Cup while finishing fourth. OK, you can do better but if that is a disaster, then the future of the club is very promising.

"Legacy is about leaving the club in every aspect that is important in a good situation. It means you leave a good squad with good young players, a good financial situation and a good structure.

"What is the most important is that the club continues to improve and the state of our club is fantastic."

Bentley bait for Spurs Ash bid

HARRY REDKNAPP has offered David Bentley plus £8million for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill this week sold Gareth Barry to Manchester City.

And he will be desperate to hold on to Young, 23, who is also a top target for Chelsea.

Tottenham chief Redknapp admitted he was priced out of buying midfielder Barry, who signed for City in a £12m switch.

Yet it has not stopped him going back for Young - although he knows Chelsea could offer the PFA Young Player of the Year far higher wages than Spurs could afford.

Winger Bentley, 24, has had a nightmare since his £15m switch from Blackburn last summer, failing to hold down a first-team spot and losing his place in the England squad.

Chelsea are ready to launch a £40million bid for Valencia striker David Villa in the hope it will be enough to secure a deal.

Roman Abramovich looks set to go on a major transfer spree this summer after appointing Carlo Ancelotti as the club's new manager and Villa is high on the wanted list.

The Blues are already thought to have failed with one bid of £37.5million for the Spain international and now they hope the improved bid will tempt los Che into cashing in.

Real Madrid are also said to be in the hunt and that could scupper Chelsea's hopes if the 27-year-old would prefer to stay in Spain.

Ohh looking promoising 40m offer, Chelsea could be even more dangerous. If they get him i think they will be massive title contenders.

Madrid target Man Utd friendship

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez promises that he will not fall out with Manchester United over his pursuit of Cristano Ronaldo.

Perez, who returned to the role he held between 2000 and 2006 on 1 June, has publicly targeted the forward.

But after United's angry response to Madrid's approach last summer, he told The Times that he will take more care.

"If I had to choose between the friendship with United and Ronaldo, I would choose the friendship," he said.

"Plus, I have never said that Cristiano will arrive in June. That is an arrogant and false statement.

"I shall be talking with United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and chief executive David Gill to build bridges."

Fifa rejected a complaint from United last June that Real's overtures amounted to an illegal approach, but the La Liga side were warned against inducing the player to breach his contract in the future.

It is unlikely that the Old Trafford hierarchy will be impressed with Perez's claim that the Spanish club could exploit a clause in the 24-year-old's contract which runs until 2012.

"From what I hear, there is an agreement between the player and his club," he said.

"If one day there is a chance of him playing for Real Madrid, that would be an honour for us."

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson denied in December that there was any secret arrangement to sell Ronaldo at the end of the season.

"Do you think I would enter into a contract with that mob? No chance. I would not sell them a virus," he said.

"Sometimes I get really annoyed with them. But we know their game. I think we should play ours and ignore them."

After David Beckham's switch in 2003, the clubs did successfully negotiate left-back Gabriel Heinze's move to the Bernabeu in 2007, after United disputed his own claim of a gentleman's agreement that would allow him to sign for Liverpool.

Perez's previous reign coincided with the Galactico era that brought Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Luis Figo and David Beckham to the club.

In less than a week in charge, he has already spoken of his admiration of AC Milan's Kaka, Valencia's David Villa and Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery.

Manuel Pellegrini has been appointed manager in place of Juande Ramos after being lured from Villarreal.

Midfielder Michael Tonge is prepared to stay with Stoke City and challenge for a first-team place next season.

The 25-year-old signed from Sheffield United for £2m in September but played just twice for the Potters in 2009.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's been frustrating because I've not played as much as I would have liked.

"But I'm looking forward to next season. Everyone starts on a level playing field again, and hopefully I can play myself into the team."

Tonge made just two starts all season - against Portsmouth in the Premier League in October, and in the FA Cup defeat to Hartlepool in January.

Despite his continued absence from the first team, Tonge remains convinced that he made the right move to join Stoke, and believes he can play a more important role for them in their second season in the Premier League.

"Even though I've not played as much as I would have liked, I've really enjoyed it. I've settled in really well and everyone at the club has made me feel really welcome.

"When you got to a new club, you want to prove that you're good enough. I've got no thoughts of leaving. I just want to play a bigger part than I did last season.

"I want to try and impress the manager in the pre-season games. The lads that have played the majority of the season will be in a strong position.

"You just want to start the season flying, because everyone will be coming back a little bit rusty and no one's got any sort of form. If you hit form early doors, you can make a statement for starting.

Barca linked with Reds ace

Barcelona are reported to be lining up a £20million swoop for Javier Mascherano as Liverpool could be forced to cash in on key players.

Friday's revelations that Liverpool's parent company, Kop Football Holdings, lost £42.6m in the year to August 2008, has sparked fears that Rafa Benitez may have to lose some of his star names.

European Champions Barca are on the look out for a new midfielder as they will lose both Yaya Toure and Seydou Keita for almost two months when they go on African Nations Cup duty and boss Pep Guardiola wants to draft in Mascherano as a replacement.

Mascherano still has three years to run on his contract at Anfield but that will stand for nothing if Barca come in and make a huge offer for the Argentina ace.

Liverpool also fear for the future of fellow midfielder Xabi Alonso as reports in Spain refuse to go away suggesting that Real Madrid are lining up a £24million bid.

No Everton Deal For Stephane M'Bia - Reports
The club deny that a deal for the Cameroonian has already been done...

Everton have dismissed rumours that they are about to enter negotiations with Rennes midfielder Stephane M'Bia, after it was rumoured that the midfielder was on his way to the Premier League.

The Cameroon midfielder was said to be the subject of much interest from the Toffees yesterday, but the Liverpudlian club have rejected the rumours.

Everton boss David Moyes was reportedly chasing the midfielder last summer, but could not agree a fee in time for the player and the interest was dropped.

M'Bia was apparently keen on a move to Goodison Park, but the Ligue 1 club would not allow him to leave unless their valuation was met.

Now, the Toffees have rejected all speculation that they are set to enter negotiations again with the 23-year-old.

At the moment, the Cameroon international is still unsure over what his future holds.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, M'Bia said, "I had an agreement to leave at the end of the season if all parties are happy, so I can’t say yet what will happen.

"There are many good clubs linked according to the press so let’s wait and see."

The midfielder signed a new deal with the French club last season and his new contract included a €6.7 million release clause.

The 23-year-old has been at Rennes for his entire career, joining the club in 2004 and being promoted to the first team.

He has since made 124 league appearances for the club, scoring seven times.

Wenger looking to bolster defence

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he wants to improve his side's defence during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners conceded 37 goals as they finished fourth in the Premier League in 2008/09, 18 points behind champions Manchester United.

And Wenger - who is in Beijing while evaluating Chinese players - recognises his young team need to improve at the back if they are to end a four-year trophy drought.

"The last season was very interesting because we had a sloppy start and then we became stronger and stronger," said the Frenchman.

"It has been interesting as well because it is a very young team, but they have been tested mentally.

"The defensive record, that is an area that we want to work on and that we want to improve."

Dzeko favours Gunners switch

Arsenal and Manchester City have made offers for Wolfsburg's Eden Dzeko but the striker would only consider a move to the Gunners.

Dzeko was one of the hottest strikers in Europe last season as his 26 goals in 32 appearances helped Wolfsburg win the Bundesliga title and both Arsenal and City have made an approach, according to his agent, Irfan Red?epagi.

However, despite their riches a move to City would be out of the question as the player wants to play in the Champions League next season, something he could do with Wolfsburg and the Gunners.

"It is not realistic for Dzeko who is a leading player in Germany and due to perform in the Champions League to opt for an average club like Manchester City," Red?epagi revealed. "Arsenal is the other case. We will discuss their offer seriously.

"I will talk over the weekend with Eden and we will see what is best for him. On Monday it is back to the negotiations with Wolfsburg."

Well i guess hes not just a money grabber wanting to go to man city then prefering good football over cash.
Though im not sure where he will fit in Arsenal already have 6 strikers.

Good man though wants to play champions league football not just money.
