I got a collection of classic horror films for Christmas, I love them. Bela Lugosi IS Dracula. "Listen to them, the Children of the night. What sweet music they make."

Crimson Tide - Was a good movie although I was really hoping Denzel would punch Gene Hackman in the face at some point, his character was pretty irritating

Hangover 2 - it's literally almost the exact same as the Hangover, except the situations are tweaked slightly, was still decent with a few funny bits but nowhere near as good as the first one - 5/10

The Thing, last years version.

Overall actually the same as The Thing made in the 80's, however just had a female as the main character, very slow at first, however picked up towards the end. 3/5

Niamh. 03-02-2012 10:23 AM

True crime, it was really good 7/10

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011 version (American basically :p))

I haven't seen the Swedish version yet, but I intend to. There were certain elements of the book's plot altered for visual effect, I feel.

Spoiler:

For example, in the book Harriet has been living in Australia for years now and has a large business over there - and therefore when Mikael finds her she takes over Henrik/Martin's role in Millenium. However, in the film, she is shown to have been in London the whole time masquerading as Anita... Anita in the book knew Harriet existed, and phoned her in Australia to let her know that Martin had died.

Also, the chase between Lisbeth and Martin was quite different to the book - the book describes him as almost intentionally driving into the path of an oil tanker. The film seems to show it was an accident. And there was never any mention in the book of Lisbeth watching him die, or going to shoot him :/

Oh and there was no relationship between Mikael and Cecilia :conf2: (in the film; there was in the book).

Small things like that aside, the atmosphere and the tension was pitch perfect, Rooney Mara was excellent, Daniel Craig was great, and the supporting cast were surprising (like Lisbeth's hacker friends - one of them's on BBC3 comedies all the time as really unknown roles, I was so shocked to see him :laugh2:). And the plot's as gripping as the book. I think you'd enjoy it a lot more if you haven't read it. 8/10

Portia Doubleday was the best part

Bollo 04-02-2012 05:54 PM

The Magicians 5/10 - really disappointing, I suppose because I was expecting it to be as funny as Peep Show
