Adele is celebrating a 23rd week at the top of the UK album chart with her record-breaking LP 21.

The singer, who returned to the top spot last week, outsold Jason Mraz's Love is a Four Letter Word by just 44 copies in her 65th week in the album chart.

Mraz's fourth studio album debuted at number two, after leading the pack with a 2,000-copy advantage during the week.

Adele's latest achievement surpasses the chart record of Eminem, who spent 23 weeks across his six-album career in the top spot. The British vocalist has now spent a total of 24 weeks at number one, with both 21 and her debut 19.

Former number one Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded by Nicki Minaj fell one spot to number three, while Lana Del Rey's Born to Die climbed two places to number four.

Jessie J's Who You Are completed the top five, after slipping one place from last week.

Train enter the chart at number ten with California 37, while Spiritualized's latest album Sweet Heart Sweet Light reached number 19 in its first week.

It is a magnificent album by a magnificent artist, really well deserved achievements. I have a feeling the success story of this album is far from over yet too.

Adele has returned to the top of the US album chart.

The singer's multi-million-selling album 21 spends a 24th non-consecutive week atop the US Billboard 200 chart.

The record managed to sell 74,029 copies over the past seven days, despite being released in the United States back in February 2011, according to Hits Daily Double.

The 27% increase in sales follows Adele's NBC special, which included an interview with the star and clips from her Live At The Royal Albert Hall DVD.

21 is thought to have surpassed sales of 22 million worldwide since its UK release in January 2011.

The collection has been certified 16 times platinum in the UK, nine times platinum in the US, 13 times platinum in Australia and diamond in Canada.

The US chart feat comes in the same week Adele's 21 fell out of the UK Top 10 for the first time.

Everyone always says that but

UK population: 62 million
21 UK sales: 4 million

US population: 313 million
21 US sales: 9 million

Still a lot of people who haven't bought it. In this day and age though those figures are hugely impressive.

Z 13-06-2012 10:03 PM

I haven't bought a copy and I still intend to.

Adele, who announced her pregnancy last week, has sold over nine million copies of 21 in the US. It only recently left the UK top ten for the first time since its release.

Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events is the second biggest-selling album of the year so far having shifted 532,000 copies, while Lana Del Rey lands at number three with Born To Die, which has sold 482,000 units since its release in January, the Official Charts Company reports.

Adele's 21 is the biggest-selling album in the US so far this year.

The singer's 2011 release has shifted a further 3.69 million copies in 2012 alone and has outsold its nearest competitor four times over.

21 was also the top-selling album at this point last year in the US with sales of 2.5 million and has become the first record in SoundScan history to claim the title two years running.

With a hefty lead, 21 could become the first album to top the end of year chart twice in a row in the SoundScan era.

Meanwhile, Lionel Richie is at two with Tuskegee selling 912,000 copies, while One Direction are at three with Up All Night which has tallied up sales of 899,000 units, according to Billboard.

Whitney Houston is at four with Whitney: The Greatest Hits (818k copies), Carrie Underwood is at six with Blown Away (602k) and Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is at eight (557k).

Adele's 21 Drops Out Of Billboard Top 10
As record-setting album ends its 78-week streak in the Top 10, we look back at its remarkable run, by the numbers.

After 546 days — and more than 9.7 million albums sold — Adele's unstoppable 21 will do the unthinkable on next week's Billboard albums chart: drop outside the Top 10.

Yes, according to Nielsen SoundScan, 21 will fall to #12 next week, marking its lowest chart position since debuting at #1 in early March 2011 (its previous low was #9 back in July). It brings to a close a record-setting run for the album, which had already logged more weeks in the Top 10 than any other album by a female artist, and had racked up an astonishing 24 weeks at #1, the sixth-most in the chart's history.

On the one-year anniversary of its debut on the chart, we commemorated 21's achievements (at the time, it had spent 40 percent of the year at #1, and had sold more copies than Katy Perry's Teenage Dream, Lady Gaga's Born This Way, Rihanna's Talk That Talk and Beyoncé's <4> ... combined), so, now that it's finally fallen into the chart's double digits, we figured we should also take a look back at some of the highlights from its 78-week run in the Top 10, by the numbers.

2: Number of albums that have spent a longer time in the Top 10 than 21, according to SoundScan. Those albums? Bruce Springsteen's Born in the U.S.A. (84 weeks) and "The Sound of Music" soundtrack (109 weeks).

20: Number of consecutive weeks 21 sold more than 100,000 copies, from September 4, 2011 to January 15, 2012. It dipped to (only) 95,000 copies the following week, then reeled off a stretch of an additional 11 weeks of six-digit sales, highlighted by a record-setting post-Grammy haul of nearly 730,000 albums sold.

45: Number of other albums that have held the #1 spot on the Billboard chart during 21's run in the Top 10.

68: Weeks after its release that 21 managed to grab the #1 spot on the chart, the 24th time it accomplished the feat. Over the course of its 78 weeks in the Top 10, 21 has also had runs of five and 10 consecutive weeks at #1.

24,002: Number of copies 21 sold this week, its lowest figure since being released. Of course, that number is only 20,000 less than Cake's Showroom of Compassion, which holds the record for lowest-selling record to open at #1 in the Nielsen SoundScan era.

3,900,000: Number of copies 21 has sold in 2012, to date.

5,800,000: Number of copies 21 sold in 2011.

430,000,000: Total number of all albums sold in 2011 and 2012 ... 23 percent of which have been copies of 21.
