Amber warning now for Central Scotland

This is not looking for for my early morning driving above 500 feet asl this evening and tomorrow.

A cold and very unstable westerly flow covers the UK. This will bring frequent showers of hail, sleet and snow through Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday. These will be heavy at times and produce large amounts of lying snow on high ground throughout. However, as surfaces cool off later this afternoon the snow is likely to begin to settle at low levels, with this evening's snow potentially producing locally 5-8 cm above around 100 m in a short space of time, and over 10 cm above around 200 m. Wednesday morning could see similar amounts of snow fall once again, on top of what will already be lying.

Snowing in Cork!

Crimson Dynamo 15-01-2015 01:40 PM

:fist: 8" of snow. Terrible driving on the A9 and some country roads i had to go on. Braved the lot, got home yesterday avvo and ploughed the car up the drive but the sheer weight of snow halted me, i reversed and squewed off the drive and down the wee hill and got well and truly stuck. I was up at 7 in the gales and sleet this morning and cleared the whole drive (100 foot unmade road) and waited till the posty could tow me out.

I am knackered:bawling:

Yes and she would have followed that with either "over the snowfields in the North" or "in remote glens"

i am expecting -12 or so here but along the way in a remote glen -16 C is likely but as there are no weather stations there we shall never know.

Crimson Dynamo 16-01-2015 02:14 PM

snowing again, temp is -1C

That's an unstable North Westerly flow for you in January!

I am watching the showers on the radar and can time them to within 10 minutes or so when they arrive

Glenn. 16-01-2015 03:07 PM

There is a little uncertainty about a system waving around the SE on Sunday that will bring some wet snow to the Home Counties (at the moment) so you could see something from that if it pivots a bit more to the South.

You have a yellow warning for rain for that period so worth keeping an eye on the forecast

Crimson Dynamo 16-01-2015 03:57 PM

heavy snow showers south of Glasgow at mo. East Kilbride must be getting plastered

Windy Wilson said that the strong winds were over for the time being, but it's getting pretty windy outside all of a sudden! No snow here though.. Bring on the arctic blast!
