it will be sent directly to your energy supplier in the Autumn and they will apply it to your bill over 6 months I believe

I think it will probably go to whoever your electric supplier is as not every household has gas ...that was where the original 200.00 that we had to pay back was going anyway

Makes sense and in theory it doesn't matter if it all goes to one and none to the other, it all works out the same in the end.

I switched bank accounts for my DD's last month and forgot to change my energy one... paid it manually as soon as I noticed and made a mental note to sort the direct debit at some point before the next is due... got a letter yesterday saying "your direct debit has been cancelled, your fixed tariff's T&C's say you must have an active direct debit, please arrange a new direct debit or you'll be switched to stardard rate"...

I've never jumped on the phone so quickly :joker:.

Is it not going Direct to the Gas Supply (£400)
only?

No because that would discriminate against those who use oil or other means to heat their homes, given they want people to move away from gas this would be a strange move!

The gas prices crisis isn't about your literal gas supply arista; electricity prices are also massively hiked because so much of our grid power generation relies on natural gas. Arguably that's the much bigger problem. No one actually needs a gas supply at all. Scottish islands (and much of the highlands) don't even have mains gas, for example.

My sister (an island-dweller) has her electricity on one of those prepay key things. I wonder what happens then? Do they just lump £400 onto the balance? lol

TBH I doubt she uses £400 of electricity in an entire year... she lives alone and works 50 hour weeks, and when she has leave etc. from work she's usually over on the mainland at my dad's. She basically needs enough electricity for a few hours of telly and a cup of tea in the evening.

She doesn't even use the electric heating as she has an open fire and gets logs on the cheap.

So, how's "Build back better" going so far? Are you impressed?
