I cant believe I forgot about this site.

A couple of months back I found out my mother had breast cancer. Since then she has had an operation to cut it out...but they did not take enough so she needs another after xmas...if it doesnt work that time she will need a mastectomy apparently :/

And if it does work..she still needs to have radiotherapy everyday for a few months and take tablets for the rest of her life.

Awful ****ing disease :bored:

I feel this completely. I went through it with my Auntie instead. She was pretty much the toughest woman I knew and it was so weird to see her being close to helpless because of this.

I wish your mother the very best.

Oddly enough it seems to have done my mum good. She was drinking really badly before this and since she found out...she stopped drinking as she realised that if she got pissed while feeling down she would drink herself into oblivion. Hasnt touched a drop in like 2+ months.

Has also decided to travel a lot more and basically...enjoy life.

Every cloud, I guess

Brother Leon 07-12-2011 01:55 AM

Thats similar to my Mums story except hers was in her lungs. She had the operation and then radio therapy. But then refused the next operation as it had spread too much. So she just accepted she only had so long to live. But she didnt want to know how long so we had no idea when she would actually die. Turned out to be just 3 months and she died last March.

Chainsmoking until the end!

Hopefully your Mother has a much better outcome like many do.

Ended up having to get a masectomy. shes strong though, it doesnt appear to bother her much. I would be a total mess if it was me.

My mum and dad have got back together through it all though. Ever cloud and that. :)

Doogle 02-05-2012 09:40 PM

I often click this and do it but I usually forget to bump it.

It's when your breast is xrayed to see if there are any parts that might have cancer.

Sadly I doubt this site is even real. Or am I wrong?

Vicky. 02-05-2012 10:01 PM

One of my closest friends is awaiting results of a biopsy - they want to remove whatever the lumps are regardless - could be as quick as next week. Not good.

I've a few females friends, older and younger who have been affected by breast cancer: it's worrying how common it is.

Thanks Ammi. You'll 'know' who it is (so to speak), I often referred to her in pms. She's putting the big brave face on but she's not doing a good job of hiding her worry. The docs are 'sure' lumps are benign - not that that is a reassurance till she gets the results.

I'd like to do something in honour of my mum. Like a sponsored walk maybe?

I find that the person who has the cancer is the one who puts the brave face on to protect others ,esp family ,hope she goes on ok xxx

That's true. I would do the same if it was me. You don't want your family to worry. :(

Looks like my mum also kept it a secret from everyone. I think she knew she was sick, but didn't want us to worry.
