It's a tragedy but sadly the UK has mostly been conditioned to see asylum seekers as vermin less worthy of life than us so there won't be much sympathy for the kid. Maybe if they were a white child the reaction would be different but certainly not for someone from Sudan.

...this is so, so sad...and that any loved ones in Sudan may never know, breaks my heart......we can never imagine the desperation that leads to people risking their lives in the way we see, for a more bearable life and for a future that’s impossible in their home countries...humankind was never built with an equal chance, sadly...nothing will stop lives being risked, I feel...because for some, it’s their only chance of a life to be had, so the risk is worth it because it gives some hope...

Using the word ‘vermin’ to describe human beings to score points must be one of the lowest things I have ever witnessed on this forum
It appears the shovels that were used as paddles accidentally punctured their dinghy, the traffickers win again, poor lad |

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel said the death of the young migrant was a "brutal reminder" that people smugglers exploit the vulnerable.

As what you point out is really sadly accurate. There has been a conditioning of presenting immigrants and asylum seekers as vermin and undesirable threats to the UK. It's worrying that in areas of the UK people have appeared to have taken that conditioning on too. Strong point. |
So now right wing racists are going to pretend to care about the lives of refugees, when they’ve spent the past couple of years dehumanising them, it’s never been about traffickers, it’s always been about the foreign, non-white people coming over, they don’t care that they’re being exploited, people like Farage are the worst types of ghouls
|
not once have i seen immigrants being classified as vermin. People get branded racists when they want the law applied to immigrants and now words are falsely being put in their mouths regarding vermin. That's what's disgusting

Luckily Nigel has brought this to the attention of the nation, he should (and is) be applauded.
His new role as investigative journalist is flourishing Boris Johnson has said that migrants crossing the Channel is a “very bad and stupid and dangerous and criminal thing to do” as he hinted at changing laws to address the situation. |
Just heard on radion 2 that the drowned man had papers on him stating he was 28
not 16 |

Traffickers or not, desperate people will do desperate things for a chance of a life free of tyranny. Traffickers are vile exploitative creatures but people dying for a chance at a better life won't be solved by focusing on traffickers. If these people truly cared about asylum seekers, they'd shine more of a light on their plight. |

we gave Sudan £52 million quid the other year to help with people leaving their home
maybe we should focus more on how that was spent we do more than our bit |

An unnecessary death born from a desperate act will always be tragic, regardless of the person's age.

They have and by some very powerful and influential people, your indignation is misplaced. |
...’vermin’ wasn’t used for point scoring in any way..it is how immigrants/asylum seekers have been described...both by Trump in the US and by Katie Hopkins in the U.K, describing families who have fled their war torn home countries to seek refuge and to seek future life..words carry great weight and have great power to influence and to dehumanise, sadly...and some media often support this in their reporting...

It's Friday, it's a new day, it's a sunny and good day to welcome new people!

The Pew Research Centre estimated that between 800,000 and 1.2 million unauthorised migrants were living in the UK in 2017 so one can imagine what it is now and the impact this has on housing, traffic, and our NHS

These are human beings looking for safety we're talking about here, and really having "traffic" these people would cause as an immediate issue is...heartless to say the least. |

Most illegals come in the back of a lorry and disappear |
Air pollution is the biggest environmental threat to health in the UK, with between 28,000 and 36,000 deaths a year attributed to long-term exposure. There is strong evidence that air pollution causes the development of coronary heart disease, stroke, respiratory disease and lung cancer, and exacerbates asthma.
