Liverpool Snap Up Greek International Sotiris Kyrgiakos

Liverpool have today pulled off a surprise transfer coup, and swooped for Greek international Sotiris Kyrgiakos from AEK Athens, as manager Rafa Benitez looks to reinforce his rearguard, weakened by injury in recent days.

Kyrgiakos has spent only a year back in Greece, after a career which has seen him play in Germany for Eintracht Frankfurt and in Scotland with Rangers.

Goal.com Greece reports that the player has cost the Reds €3million, after they Merseysiders made an initial bid of €1.5million. AEK themselves began the negotiations holding out for €5million.

The move has seemingly emerged from out of the blue, surprising Greek observers who had little or no inkling that the swoop was on the cards.

Liverpool travel to Stoke City on Wednesday night with doubts surrounding the fitness of Martin Skrtel, who has a jaw injury, though he could possibly play, and Daniel Agger, still sidelined with a back injury.

While the transfer has yet to become official, it is expected to be confirmed shortly.

Hmm, I've heard of him but don't think I've ever seen him play.
Is he wearing a Rangers top?
Yeah, he played for Rangers a few years ago.

Scored 8 goals in 51 games in the German league, good record for a center back, hope he scores some for us.

Shaun :yuk: in disgust of the Liverpool fans in here.

King Gizzard 18-08-2009 07:40 PM

Was it one of you saying that Gallas wouldnt play if you got hangeland ; D

Johann 18-08-2009 07:44 PM

The Verminator is looking unmovable once again.

If we get Hangeland then it will be Verma who doesn't play, thus resulting in me not wanting him anymore.

Thats pretty good that. I've just looked him up on wikipedia and he's scored 21 goals in his whole career including goals he's scored for Greece.

fluke goal for Arsenal.. Thats the best they can do.

This will only make Celtic play better and they will knock 2 goals in..

Arsenal will only have 1 away goal, that is truely advantage Celtic in the 2nd leg.

King Gizzard 18-08-2009 07:46 PM

Middlesbrough will get Balde..Fulham will get Wheater..Villa will get Hangeland

King Gizzard 18-08-2009 07:54 PM

Where has everyone gone lo!?

Not sure, would rather Gallas than Hangeland though.

Next year Hangeland would be good for us, but this year I'm liking Gallas.
