The radar at Shannon airport is being upgraded so Cork is not at the moment covered by radar

Hence the showers did not pick up before

Today is the longest day of the year

There are two solstices every year: one in June and one in December. The June
solstice marks the longest day north of the equator and the shortest day in the
south.

Change afoot

A northwest/southeast split will develop in the UK weather in the coming days,
with the possibility of heatwave criteria being met in the south and east, but
with some heavy rain further north and west.

There are marked differences in the weekend forecast for those in the
northwest compared to those in the southeast.

On Friday, those in Scotland, Northern Ireland, northwest England and parts
of northern Wales will see some frontal rain move in from the west through
the day, with the highest rainfall totals expected in western areas of Scotland
and Northern Ireland. That theme continues through the weekend, with
further bands of rain pushing into the northwest.

Meanwhile, much of southern, central and eastern England, will see a gradual
build in temperatures through the weekend. Temperatures will exceed 30C in
places and could even reach 32 or perhaps 33C somewhere in the southeast,
with Sunday the likely peak of the heat.

nice cool weather over here in Netherlands

we get a warm weekend though, followed by thunderstorms and rain, next week's forecasts are slightly warmer than this week, around 25C (which is more than perfect for me anyway)

i'm not complaining so far about this years summer, i don't like too hot weather at all

i do tend to go into the shower earlier when i see there are thunderstorm predictions around my normal shower time, me being precautious, not being hit by lightning through the water (idk if that also is for regular houses or more caravans/campings) but regarding t-storms you can never be too careful

Vanessa 04-07-2023 10:37 AM

Nice day so far. But they say it will rain later..

@Livia

An unseasonably deep area of low pressure is expected to bring disruption to parts of
continental Europe on Wednesday. For the UK, the most likely scenario is for some
heavy overnight rain and strong coastal winds across eastern England, clearing early on
Wednesday without impacts. However, there is a small chance that rain will become
much heavier for a longer period across parts of east Norfolk and east Suffolk, producing
50 to 100 mm in six hours and bringing a risk of flooding and disruption. There is also a
very small chance of gusts 50 to 60 mph near the coast, which could also cause some
disruption.

The world's average temperature reached a new high on Monday 3 July, topping 17 degrees Celsius for the first time.

US researchers said the new record was the highest in any instrumental record dating back to the end of the 19th century.

Scientists believe a combination of a natural weather event known as El Niño and mankind's ongoing emissions of carbon dioxide are driving the heat.

Last month has also been confirmed as the world's warmest June yet recorded.
