Those that support him will never see anything wrong anyway.

Biden will be president next week, they need to de-escalate all of the rhetoric and let the courts decide

Ridiculous - you don't ignore what happened and play happy families. If you think the fascists will view it as a lesson learned, history shows you're wrong. It will just embolden them for another try and with someone less obvious. The crazy right have done everything they can to destroy democracy over the last few decades, and now you want people to give their most blatant attempt, a free pass?

Exactly, a firm stand against an attack on Democracy by the bloody President ffs is absolutely vital, what kind of message does it send out otherwise?

It's not ridiculous. Impeachment is a political gesture that will not result in Trump being removed because the senate doesnt even reconvene until the 19th, and there will not be a 75% majority required to remove him anyway.

It's just stoking the fire, simple and does nothing to foster trust. Let the courts decide what should happen to trump, thats what they are there for

It's a win either way, if the Republicans don't vote to impeach Trump then you have a list of senators that voted no who are terrorist sympathisers.

It puts the republicans in a gloriously difficult position which is worth it considering they allowed the terrorism at Capitol to happen.

Trump should not benefit from all the perks of being an ex-president, not when he stoked fires for an insurrection.

It's not worth it because republicans are craven, isn't as compelling as you think it sounds, and you don't unify with nazi's. Stoking the fire? Playing nice isn't a reasonable thing to expect anyone to do after a coup attempt. The framing is just stupid, dems have no responsibility to pander to maga. Those days need to be over.

Spot on Slim.

All strong points..
Reminds me of the old expression, for evil to thrive the good just have to do nothing.

I can't believe any can think Trump and these truly vile dangerously twisted thinking supporters of him who carried out this shocking riot.
Should just be more appeased than forced to be brought to account by and in any means possible to do so.

To actually criticise the Democrat Party is unbelievable really, for wanting to, (in the light of what happened), to fight to uphold the democratic government and protection of the governing Senators and Representatives too.

To be fair, there are so many of them that you at some point have to. You don't play happy families with the committed, ideological Nazis, no... but the sheepy-nazis who were drawn in for the ride? They make up such a huge chunk of the population that you can't do anything else.

Active Nazis were arrested (mostly)... Hitler-supporting German citizens had to continue living and working as part of German society. There was no other choice. It was half the country. Over time those widespread attitudes lessened in the bulk of the population. Obviously the extreme fringe still exists, but I do think it shows that it's possible for attitudes to improve generation-on-generation with work.

Yeah, of course, but we're talking about the head Nazi here, and this whole discussion is about whether dems should allow trump to get away with attempting an armed insurrection for the sake of unity. Germany proved that the sheepy nazi's can settle back into society and move past it, but only once the leaders were held to account, and that was where I was coming from. If you're an elected official, I don't think you have the right to be classed as one of the sheep.

Violence has been threatened against 50 state capitols, if he was in any way genuine he would be out every day publicly telling everyone to stop, but he isn't.

He's doing his rally at the Alamo, isn't he, which of course, is purely coincidental...

Yes I totally agree with that - in fact, I think consequences for those in power and those properly at the forefront of engaging in action (rather than what I would call the smug supporters/enablers cheering on from the sidelines) is actually a vital part of this ever moving on. There will 1000% be a "next Trump" otherwise... and I don't necessarily mean a literal Trump offspring - probably someone actually clever and calculating and thus far worse.

"The impeachment is causing tremendous anger... and it's really a terrible thing that they're doing," said Mr Trump.

"For Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to continue on this path, I think it's causing tremendous danger to our country and it's causing tremendous anger."

I'm sure it is causing tremendous anger to him and his supporters, but then, they weren't particularly worried about invading a government building waving confederate flags, and the "tremendous anger" that might cause for the majority of American people, including swathes of fellow Republicans.
