Hollyoaks bosses have cast actress Sophie Austin to play new character Lindsey Butterfield, Digital Spy can exclusively confirm.

Lindsey is the fiancée of the eldest Roscoe brother Joe (Ayden Callaghan) and will make her first appearance on screen early next month.

Billed as "feisty, determined and driven", Lindsey is more than capable of holding her own with the outspoken Roscoe boys.

Lindsey's romance with Joe is a strong one as he regards her as the love of his life, while family matriarch Sandy (Gillian Taylforth) enjoys having another female living in the house.

The new arrival will also be working at the local hospital as a junior doctor, which means sharing plenty of scenes with schemer Doctor Browning (Joseph Thompson) as the pair become colleagues.

Speaking of her new role, Austin commented: "I'm so excited to be joining the cast of Hollyoaks as Lindsey Butterfield and being part of the Roscoe clan. We have lots of exciting stories ahead."

Hollyoaks airs Lindsey's first scenes on Monday, June 3 at 6.30pm on Channel 4.

Emmett Scanlan has paid tribute to his former Hollyoaks co-star Kieron Richardson following their win at the British Soap Awards.

The two lads - Chester’s Brendan Brady and Ste Hay - picked up the award for best on screen partnership.

In a chat with SoapSquawk Emmett hailed Kieron as a true professional, admitted he wants to work with him again - possibly at Hollyoaks - and praised the couple’s army of fans.

Talking about their win, Emmett said: "The job is the award, this is just the icing on the cake - the after sex cigarette!
"I’d have sacrificed it for Hollyoaks to get best soap, it’s an amazing soap and an amazing place to work.
"I loved my time there and was spoilt with great storyline after great storyline.

"I feel really humble that Kieron’s won as well because he works his arse off, he’s so consistently good.

"I have my good days and bad days but he’s always on point."

He added: "Kieron makes me proud all the time, it was a true honour to dance with him on set.

"I’ve heard so many good things about what he’s doing at the moment.

"I don’t think it’s going to be the end of me and him working together.

"I’d love to work with him again if not on something else then back on Hollyoaks in the future.

"He’s an absolute gentleman...who likes to kiss!"

And while he was praising Kieron Emmett also wasted no time celebrating the fans who voted for them.

He laughed: "Oh my god, the Stendan fans without doubt are the most hardcore mother *********s I have ever come across in my life, they are all amazing."

Talking about the storyline, James told SoapSquawk: "It’s like a ripple effect, you know when you drop a pebble in a pond.

"It’s going to affect almost all of the families in Chester.

"It’s not just me, it’s everyone. There are a lot of people involved.

"People have been tweeting me saying ’when’s this storyline coming’, all I can say is that it is coming and be patient!"

He added: "There’s a new character that comes in and that’s the start of this storyline.

"It’s a guy but that’s all I can tell you!

"I can’t tell you if he’s a love interest but John Paul is not really with anyone, well apart from Doug and that’s on/off.

"So at some point he’s going to have to find someone.

"Let’s just say my character is going to go on a journey, it’s a long running storyline."
