Is there anything worse than a friendship that ceases to exist when that person gets into a relationship? Because on the one hand you're happy for them but on the other hand if that relationship ends the friend comes crawling back and depending on the length of the relationship, they might not have been there for any of you for months or years even.

Ah yes, I've experienced this more than once. Very commonplace. Some people are naturally givers (like you Greg) and more people are takers. Ain't life grand :(

Jake. 13-03-2014 09:42 PM

i want a girlfriend just so i can ditch Greg

My best friend (since we were 12) broke up with his girlfriend a couple of months ago, they'd gone out for 2 years and as happy as I was for him, I just couldn't warm to her, she never tried to get to know any of his friends and would spend all of her time with him so he just never spent any time with us... and now they've split up and we speak every day like we used to before she was on the scene and I'm happy about that, obviously, but my life's moved on a lot in the last two years and I'm sort of wondering whether, after enough time has passed, if I should say something about how ****ty it was to just drop all of his friends for that long and to just reappear like nothing happened :/

Greg, if it's still on your mind then yes let him know how you feel, just pick your moment and explain that you're so glad to have him around again but if he drops you again for a girl then you won't be hanging around for him to pick up the pieces next time. Plus if he chooses the right girl she'd be happy for him to spend time with his mates.

King Gizzard 13-03-2014 09:50 PM

I mean it's been 3 months now, I know he won't be over it for a while yet but I should be seeing him in person next weekend so I'll try and bring it up then if I do see him because I think enough time's passed now... last time I saw him (when I was at home) he was talking about how she's wasting her life away working in this bar up at home when she could be doing something else so at least I know he's in the "criticise the ex" stage

Kate! 13-03-2014 09:58 PM

Good stuff. You'll feel better for saying it.
