Hollyoaks's first look screening was boosted by Joel Dexter's stabbing storyline on Wednesday evening (May 16), overnight figures show.

Hollyoaks pulled in 541k (2.9%) on E4 at 7pm and a strong 234k (1.1%) an hour later on +1 as fans tuned in to see the teenager's fate after he was attacked.

Earlier, the main airing on Channel 4 was watched by 908k (5.2%) at 6.30pm and 186k (1.0%) on timeshift.

bbfan1991 17-05-2012 10:24 AM

Hollyoaks bosses have officially announced the return of the soap's late night spinoff show Hollyoaks Later.

Channel 4 has commissioned a fifth series of the post-watershed drama, which will air on E4 in the autumn.

As with previous years, Hollyoaks Later will air as five hour-long episodes, transmitting on consecutive nights across one week in a 10pm timeslot.

Fan favourite Brendan Brady, played by Emmett Scanlan, will be among the characters taking centre stage this year.

Jane Steventon has joined Lime Pictures to work as the producer of Hollyoaks Later, while the series will be executive produced by the main show's bosses Emma Smithwick and Tony Wood.

Smithwick commented: "I am so excited for Hollyoaks Later this year. We have been planning the stories for a while, and so the late nights will give the characters a whole new playing field in terms of how we tell their tales.

"Expect a lot of humour and heartbreak for some of the sixth form boys, a good dose of Brady related darkness and a wild excursion for Mitzeee."

Marianne Buckland, commissioning editor for Channel 4, added: "This series of Hollyoaks Later represents the next turn of the wheel for the brand and promises a glossier, more grown-up feel.

"By their very nature, the lateness of Laters allows us to be that little bit more risky and with Brendan Brady at the helm - a character so suited to a post-watershed stint - this year is more dark and dangerous than ever."

The recommission follows the success of last year's series, which featured the McQueens' trip to Ibiza, Riley Costello's stag celebrations and Rae Wilson's death at the hands of serial killer Silas Blissett.

Hollyoaks Later is currently in pre-production and filming will begin in the summer.

Glad that the return of Hollyoaks Later has finally been announced and can't wait to see what storylines they have planned:):D.

This is a soap. Anything is possible! :spin:

Monday's episode was boring, however Walker does interest me, hoping he is a serial killer and kills a few people off.

Yep wired how he said he had no money for a motel but he had a bag full of money. Maybe he robbed a bank?

What did he do for Brendan in prison? Protect him after warren told people to hurt him?

Yes, i think he saved his life in prison. Walker has a strange fascination with Brendan! I don't like it! :bawling:

Emmett Scanlan is going to be in The Fall with Bronagh Waugh:amazed:.

I've got a feeling that Brendan will leave next year and that Walker will kill him:(.

Have you tried dailymotion?

DrunkerThanMoses 17-05-2012 02:32 PM

Nope might wait untill sunday morning and watch all of them.

bbfan1991 17-05-2012 05:52 PM

I like how protective Brendan is over Joel for some reason, despite it being his fault about the stabbing.

Walker is OK, although the characterisation could be better.

Dennis is quite funny and he made Dodger see sense!

Jords 17-05-2012 05:53 PM

Hollyoaks Later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

The late night episodes are normally good and they can do stuff past the watershed that they cannot do at 6:30 PM:D.

I blame Walker for the stabbing. He planned everything. He wanted to get Joel hurt!

Hollyoaks star Ashley Margolis has announced that he is leaving the soap.

The actor, who has been portraying Ricky Campbell since summer 2009, confirmed the news on his Twitter page this afternoon (May 18).

Margolis told his online followers: "So I can finally say.. My final eps have been written. I will be leaving the show next month. It's been a fab 3 years but time to move on!

"Thanks to all of you lot for your kind messages about my curly twin.. Keep watching anyway!!"

He added: "It was a tough decision to leave but I want to do other things!! I've had the best 3 years of annoying my castmates! They will miss me.. :-)"

Ricky's first major storyline on Hollyoaks saw him acting as a carer for his father Martin, who suffers from MS. Fans will also remember his double act with best friend Duncan Button, who was played by Dean Aspen.

The sixth-former's final scenes are expected to air in a few months' time.

DrunkerThanMoses 18-05-2012 03:09 PM

Wait he was all ready leaving last year but stayed on because he was suppose to have a major storyline, what happened there?

Personally I did not mind him, I preferred him with Anita though

bbfan1991 18-05-2012 03:14 PM

It is a shame I liked Ricky.

The Producer tweeted me a few weeks ago saying there were storylines for Esther and Ricky, who I consider to be the most bareable teens coming up...

DrunkerThanMoses 18-05-2012 03:35 PM

Ricky dont gel with these kids though, but Esther is okay. Heard a rumour she is leaving too so maybe they run off together

bbfan1991 18-05-2012 05:36 PM

Esther is not leaving LOL. I personally tweeted Jazmine Franks and she replied back to me:amazed:.

bbfan1991 18-05-2012 05:37 PM

Brendan rightfully is feeling guilty.

How was he supposed to know the contacts were psychos? Walker only told him after Joel went to the meeting. What a sneaky guy! :nono:
