You are truly classical music fan, BB_Eye.
I listened twice, but nothing happened to me.:o (of course this was beautiful music.)
But if I listen to Latin arranged music, Amapola (the first page of the first music) my heart starts beating!

Wagner is never as good if you only hear the bleeding chunks. You have to experience his operas as a whole. It's also worth noting the tenor in the video I posted is not very good :o or at least I'm not that keen on him.

Hehe, excuses aside, it's not for all tastes, even for musicians (which I am not). I mentioned Brahms really liked Mastersingers, but hated everything else Wagner wrote. It's all subjective in the end. ^_^

I recognise that theme from Once Upon a Time in America. Great movie. I always thought it was a completely "original" score. I guess not. :D

It was one of moving film and amapola was played beautifully. Yes I loved that film.

I used to dance rumba with amapola with Latin version.
This was around decades before I was born.:o

I found a very old record (1937) sang by a Japanese singer called Noriko Awaya. This was made for dance hall music. The tempo is very fast.
I prefer "Once Upon A Time in America" version.

Regarding opera, I remembered a film called "Pretty Woman".
You might have seen it. A story about romance of a prostitute and a wealthy business man.
There was an opera scene. The girl has seen the opera the first time, she was almost teared. I would not know whether if she was emotional because of the music or story, may be both. (Opera starts around 3:50)
Pretty Woman

This part is more familiar for me;
La Traviata - Drinking Song

Casablanca - Time goes by

I have just heard Corin was singing this.

Helen Shapiro - Walkin' Back To Happiness.

Yeah, I guess in a weird way Pretty Woman is the rom-com equivalent of La Traviata haha. Lucky for Julia Roberts, she lives in more enlightened times where her lifestyle is less of a taboo and gets her happy ending.

That video of the 'Drinking Song' is a really great performance. Placido Domingo is still going strong and is on tour at the moment singing Verdi's Simon Boccanegra.

This lady is my favourite Violetta. She just about beats Maria Callas for me. She doesn't blow you away like Callas, but is far more controlled.

And for comparison's sake, here is Callas (also brilliant). You might argue there is more emotion in this performance.

Yes, I liked Callas better just listen to both of them now.

Then I hardly listen to opera so I do not really know what I am talking about.
My knowledge of Callas was more like a lover of Onassis level.:D

(By the way where has - big smiley? - has gone?)

I've noticed a couple of smilies have gone. Only someone like me who overuses them has probably noticed though.

I think I'll post some more soundtrack stuff after the thread in the film forum.

I won't spoil it for you, but this composer doesn't usually do soundtracks. (sorry for bending the rules of this thread a little bit)

I have to confess I've never seen Vertigo, but the theme is iconic.
