Yes, it wasnt quite as cold as expected but going down to the bus this morning in -9c was a wee bit chilly. I have been out feeding all my birds and putting salt on the village road which has about 4" of rutted ice on it and is tricky.

At best we will get to -3C today. My journey across country to an auction with no heating will be ideal. Standing around for 2 hours on a cold stone floor in an old high ceiling warehouse is perfect in this weather.

Outbreaks of sleet and snow, with rain along western coasts, will edge northeastwards across central and southern Scotland during Tuesday. These will fall on to cold surfaces leading to a risk of some icy stretches, especially across western Scotland in the morning. Upland routes through the Borders and the Southern Highland may see some periods of more persistent snow at times, with further accumulations of 5 to 10 cm possible on the highest routes.

Wondering if you know the answer to this LT because Im genuinely curious and never been able to find out why but when theres really cold weather why is it only England that get 'Cold Weather Alerts'? we don't get them and instead we just get a warning

I think its to do with the separate Public Health England and NHs Scotland set ups. Just like the Environment Agency in England and SEPA in Scotland who issue warnings independent of each other. That and the fact we are colder and so it would not make sense to try and include us.

Thay are a load of bollocks anyroad

Snow alert for the middle of England

"An area of snow is expected to extend northeastwards from parts of Wales across the Midlands and into parts of northern England on Tuesday evening and night, persisting into Wednesday morning. Accumulations of 3-8 cm are likely in places, perhaps 10-15 cm very locally on high ground. The snow should ease gradually through Wednesday morning.
"

Places like Derby look likely to get a plastering but if you are in the midlands and above 500 feet you should get a fair bit.

2 dead birds on my walk this morning. A dead Heron and a dead buzzard. Probably froze to death. The Heron was upright in in the snow against some bracken and the buzzard was on the ground.

On the plus side the temp has finally climbed above zero, well 0.5C at 10z. Looks like we will get some rainy sleet tomoz and then the heady heights of 8C on Sunday. :spin:

Snow warning for NI, NE and Scotland weds and thurs

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/d...5/uk/2015-1-28

A cold and increasingly showery northwesterly flow is expected to develop during Wednesday and last through Thursday. Accumulating snow is likely away from windward coastal districts, especially overnight, with 2-5 cm locally at low levels. Higher ground, above about 150 m, could see in excess of 10 cm. Strong and gusty winds will likely accompany snow showers, and lead to significantly reduced visibility at times.

:fist: we still have snow from 2 weeks ago

The rain gave our iced over snow a fright on Friday then during the night we had some more heavy snow that lay.

It's all gone again for now though.

Josy 26-01-2015 08:12 AM

So it looks like the snow will return on Wed then?

Yes looks like wednesday night into Thursday morning

Crimson Dynamo 26-01-2015 10:20 AM

Well thats the snow gone from the garden now. 13 days it lasted, there is still some clumps in the village from the snowplough and plenty up the valley sides. The upshot of it going is that I can now see that the snowdrops are out!
