Disaster for Marco. Looks like the only way the GOP can stop Trump is at the convention. Who knows what rule changes they'll dream up.

Inevitable TBH. He was way out of his depth. Suspended; theoretically 't the campaign is still going if Rubio makes bid at the convention..

I'm waiting to see what the GOP has in store for the convention. There has been talk of a brokered convention for a few weeks now, and if that happens then they can possibly stop Trump on the convention floor. It all sounds very desperate, and it is desperate, but there has been disagreements over the exact convention rules for a few days so a last minute rule change would not be out of the realms of all possibility.

They changed the rules n 2012 to stop Ron Paul. They made it so that only candidates with more than 8 wins could be recognized at the convention; effectively pushing out Ron Paul. Its actually a bit ironic that the same rule may come back to bite them if say they try and push a Miitt Romney or Rubio candidacy forward at the convention.

An interesting read on how we would get a brokered convention.

At this stage its got to be the only way the GOP can stop Trump. It would be very desperate and probably comical but its was suggested ages ago and now its being talked about much more.

Well done Donald!:clap1::clap1::clap1:

Another thing, most of the Primaries Trump is winning are winner take all; where as the democrats mostly allocate the delegates according to percentage of vote, most of the GOP primaries are winner take all so Trump is getting all not a percentage of the delegates. He may even have enough delegates before we get to the convention. Then its gets interesting.

Kizzy 16-03-2016 07:25 AM

Did he get Ohio?

joeysteele 16-03-2016 07:25 AM

He is not there yet but it is getting harder to see how they can come up with anything that would even look minutely credible to not give him the nomination.

Doesn't bother me if he does get it, he will end up a massive liability to the Republican party in an election campaign in my view and ensure an easier Hilary Clinton win.
I'd be very happy to see that.

..he needs over 1200, is that right../he only has around half of that atm...I guess the convention is where all of the really 'dirty deals' are done, where it all gets messy as it were...

Is the conventions purpose not to pick a candidate if there is no outright winner? It would be very undemocratic if they went round the country picking up these votes and then said nah we want someone else :laugh:

Very undemocratic but they've done it before. Election 2000 is exhibit A. :joker:

Meh these are internal party issues though, neither of our main parties would ever have a candidate who hadn't had to put in years of political service first before needing the backing of other MPs to even get on the ballot so not sure that's more democratic. A Trump would never even have a chance.

Would be good if Kasich could now mount a serious challenge to Trump but seems unlikely

Its not really the point though I'm not following this so much, its enough for me to try and make a decision on Brexit :fist: and don't know much about any of the candidates policies but if the will of the people is to be ignored why bother asking :laugh:
