The hot tub comment from Eamonn was quite telling too tbh. Sounds like it's an "arrangement" in their marriage that has been the case for a long time.

Apparently that was a joke, the ‘fans’ are up in arms with Eamonn making a few light hearted comments, but Phil has thanked him for lightening the mood

Lewismacfarlane 08-02-2020 09:00 AM

Well done to Philip for the interview yesterday hope he and his family get the respect they deserve

what do you mean by that?

Liam- 08-02-2020 09:18 AM

I’ll probably never say this again, but Eamonn did the right thing yesterday, coming out is such an intense thing, a little humour and lightness is definitely needed

I'm not sure what is the relevance of the current gay tv personalities to his decision to marry decades ago.

Successful openly gay presenters, it’s in answer to people that think Phil kept his secret because it would kill his career.

Cherie 08-02-2020 10:27 AM

They showed a clip on the news last night, Ruth running up and hugging him like her life depended on it, after how awkward and frosty they were on stage at the NTAs :skull:

I wonder if LW will have Steph on, would be nice to hear her story

Not really.

The situation for sexual minorities only improved over the last 60 years or so. It improved dramatically and back then it was bloody awful.
To use the current state to assess decisions from the past is lazy and wrong.
Also, coming out is not just about the career. The person needs to come out to themselves first, others around him and then it's about the career.
We don't know at what point he admitted to himself he was gay. People can lie to themselves successfully their whole lives. He might have thought he was bisexual.
Then his family. I can well imagine somebody putting things off year by year thinking how hurt they may be and not having the courage.
Decisions like marriage followed by kids are difficult to undo and when was exactly the right moment? At least now his kids are grown up.
At the end of the day it's society's homophobia of the past that's to blame.
Not good saying, oh you got it good now so why you were not brave when it was bad. Different circumstances.

And tbf some people's lives can be more dramatic than others, just as long as you don't start hearing about someone's twin being hidden behind a mirror or portrait like out of Sunset Beach I think it was, then your life isn't a Soap.

I hope that you're doing okay anyway Scarlett.:)

I am, it's been a long time since then, well, its actually 17 years tommorow it happened.

If he is getting erect with women he is not a proper gay.

Kizzy 08-02-2020 11:53 AM

His use of language is very odd, he said he is ' coming to terms' with being gay... this is the sort of language you might use if you're diagnosed with a terminal illness :/

Could be internalised homophobia

It’s a very common phrase for someone who has grown up in either a time or environment where homosexuality is frowned upon

Crimson Dynamo 08-02-2020 01:21 PM

Maybe his wife has been having an affair for years, getting her 5 a day elsewhere?

You're obsessed with Phil's erection.

Was it?
I know the "thought you were resigning" one was but the hot tub seemed more sincere.

thesheriff443 08-02-2020 02:03 PM

Phil was getting bad press, did a journalist dig a bit deeper and unearth a time bomb waiting to go off.

I don’t believe he just woke up one day and said I’ve got it, I’m gay.
