Yeah I agreed with Roy Keane there, the older players should have stepped up, plus he didn't actually miss his penalty, The goalie saved it

He really was. He can hold his head high as far as I am concerned. He is 19 years old, in his first major tournament and he stepped up, knowing the magnitude of that penalty and took it.

We were open mouth at the order apart from Kane obviously to see a defender stepping up second with all the forwards sitting back was pretty stunning

We need to give Pickford credit as well for saving 2, that was unexpected

It was dirty, yes. But that’s what you call a professional foul. Most players in that situation would do the same if they knew there was no chance of beating their opponent to the ball, and even more so in the later stages of a cup final.

It’s crap but it is what it is

It was a yellow card, fair and square.

AnnieK 12-07-2021 08:56 AM

Pickford has had a great tournament....my son plays in net, its a lonely place to be during pens. His manager always says it not for the keeper to dave but for the taker to score. He deserved the Golden Glove if they give it out at the Euros

Sterling has missed his last three so he was never gonna take one of the first five .

They should have left Jordan Henderson on to take one of them

James 12-07-2021 09:48 AM

Saka had a good tournament and you can't blame him.

With Rashford and Sancho it is unfortunate because they weren't given much time on the pitch during the tournament, and then were asked to take penalties at the end by Southgate. So that is extra pressure.

You could say Southgate was trying to be too clever, but if it had worked it would have been seen as a genius move.

Someone posted this on FB in reply to Jack :fan:

He said he wanted to play for Ireland aswel. Bit of a liar is ould Jack

I think the point Roy was making though was that the older players should have insisted

Apparently the players had no input.
Southgate supposedly chose the people taking them AND the order ...

Southgate has given a statement to the effect that the players were given no choice whatsoever

Italy deserved the win as they were much more active in the game as the match progressed and created much more scoring opportunities and chances than their opponent all the while England became passive and ended up in a much more defensive position than was needed in this game.

Cherie 12-07-2021 01:00 PM

and even better news Slim got rid of that god awful hulking sig and replaced it with something smaller every cloud

I'm gutted we didn't win but I have to agree.

Italy had possession nearly 80% of the time.

As much as I wanted England to win I can't make up bull**** to justify otherwise.

The better team won on the night, play wise

Nicky91 12-07-2021 01:54 PM

the 0-1 was genius i thought

clever play from Trippier, and also great of Kane to get those 3 defenders near him to fool them the ball was meant for him and not Shaw, some great captainship from The Hurricane

and great executed goal by Shaw, because sometimes you'd expect wild shots from defenders but perfect placement towards goal :clap2:

Mount also played better last night than in other matches of the tournament which is great to see

True exactly

It was alot of pressure to put on Rashford & Sancho, and Saka was actually good you can see the potential . As mentioned he never missed the penality ,it was just saved. I felt so bad for these 3 as they were clearly gutted.

Ha Ha Ha, nice one Pickford.

Is that big fanny still out injured, he only got a kick in the shin, I'd have got up and played on.

BBC London Reported
86 arrested
19 Police Officers were hurt

Vanessa 12-07-2021 05:55 PM

This is why I prefer to watch matches at home.

Zizu 12-07-2021 07:53 PM

Just a shame it took Southgate 24 hours to go public and state that he chose the penalty takers and the order of taking them

It was , of course , sadly too late to prevent Sterling , Henderson and Grealish getting slaughtered in the media for sitting back letting the youngsters take the hit .
