CORRIE’S Roy Cropper cracks up and smashes EGGS at a supermarket after discovering wife Hayley fathered a lad.

The café owner — played by David Neilson — breaks down on a trip to the shops as the pressure gets too much.

Transsexual Hayley — actress Julie Hesmondhalgh — learned the bombshell news in a box of letters she found after a family funeral. She made contact with son Christian but pretended his real dad is dead.

She later confesses and is beaten up by Christian. Roy’s dramatic breakdown airs later this month on the ITV soap.

Oh well, he deserved it. Maybe this will do him some good.

I feel sorry for David, the way he is is the product of Gail's mistakes and she's done nearly nothing to help. She should of helped him get over Richard Hillman after it happened and not let it fester, then he's behavior wouldn't be as bad as it is, and if it was a firm hand would have done the trick. Gail being stern now has just worsened the problem, A case of too little, too late on Gail's part.

Plus after all this she chucks him out, granted what he did was totally wrong, but you have to stick with your kids in the end you can't chuck them out after they've made a mistake or they'll carry that hate or contempt for the rest of their lives. Grrr Gail annoys me.

She chucked him out for the wrong thing, this was an accident

BOXING champ Ricky Hatton has won a permanent role in Corrie, TV Biz can reveal.

A picture of his battered face and a pair of his gloves sit beside the bell behind the bar in The Rovers Return.

Ricky, 28, has even signed the pic to landlady Liz Macdonald, played by Beverley Callard, 50.

A source said: “Ricky’s a Manchester lad born and bred. Producers love a local element.”

The nation has been hooked on the David Platt storyline in Coronation Street, in which he almost killed his niece Bethany - and now it seems the evil teen is set to try and murder his sister Sarah's fiance.

During gripping scenes this week we saw Sarah's daughter Bethany swallow an ecstasy tablet David (played by Jack P Shepherd) had stashed inside her favourite doll.

Now, in a sinister plot twist, he will enter the builder's yard where Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) works and loosen the bolts on the scaffolding around the office, reports the Daily Star.

When Jason leans into the bar the whole thing comes crashing down around him and he is left in a pile of rubble.

He pulls through but his injuries mean he will be on crutches during his wedding with Sarah (Tina O'Brien).

This week's dramatic episode - which saw Bethany rushed to hospital - pulled in a whopping 11.4million viewers.

THERE'S a new arrival in Coronation Street - and they've paid £20m to move in.

Furniture retailer Harveys begins its on-screen sponsorship of the Street a week tomorrow. Viewers will see a series of new screen trailers and `bumper' ads for the furniture firm around Corrie featuring a mix of real actors, computer generated imagery and puppetry.

The new sponsorship will also make use of the digital red button, plus online, mobile and in-store promotions.

Cadbury has now ended its £10m-a-year deal with ITV to sponsor the most watched soap.

Last Sunday's episode marked their farewell with the last of the company's ads around the programme.

The confectionary business decided to terminate its sponsorship, a decade after first becoming sweet on Corrie.

Its current deal was due to run out in December but the replacement sponsorship agreement has allowed Cadbury to bow out early.

Cadbury marketing director Phil Rumbol said: "Cadbury has had a wonderful 10 year association with the programme but, like many of its famous characters, it's time to say goodbye to the Street."

Breathing space

Episodes are now being screened without any sponsorship to provide a breathing space between the departing and arriving sponsors.

Harveys are reported to have signed a two-year deal worth £20m to sponsor the Rovers regulars and become part of the Weatherfield furniture.

That leaves open the question of who will be sponsoring Coronation Street when it celebrates its 50th birthday in 2010.

ITV executive chairman Michael Grade said: "Coronation Street remains the largest and most important programme brand on British television and we're delighted to welcome Harveys as our new commercial partner."

Ian Topping, chief executive of Harveys' parent company Steinhoff UK, said: "This is the most prestigious sponsorship deal within British television and we feel it is a great strategic step for us in our quest to become the nation's favourite furniture retailer."
