Can we just talk about Azerbaijans slaying entry

Denver 16-03-2016 09:27 PM

Azerbaijan can **** off the cheating bastards

Braden 16-03-2016 09:35 PM

Yes, they cheated to just scrape through to the final last year and flopped the year before as well. Such cheating.

Miracle >>>

Braden 16-03-2016 09:49 PM

That was after they were accused of cheating though.

Like, I have no problem with Azerbaijan winning, but it's probably the country I feel that is least deserving based on how they've treated the contest before.

Black Dagger 16-03-2016 09:52 PM

Oh I won't dispute that they cheated their victory in 2011, it's common knowledge.

But out of those who I think could win this year I'd take this over that dated Russia bollocks, Ukraine's screeching noise or Frans (who I think won't make top 10 anyway)

Braden 16-03-2016 09:58 PM

I want Australia to win because I want to know what country they would partner with to host the contest. Hopefully it would be us

Wasn't it stated last year Germany was there top choice?

Babayaro. 16-03-2016 10:02 PM

Wait, how did Azerbaijan cheat in 2011?

Was it? :/

Did they mention why they would pick Germany?

Dunno, but in the 2013 contest they provided sim cards to people from other countries so they could vote for them. And good ol' Bonnie Tyler overheard the Belarussian act saying 'Azerbaijan never gave us the 10 points they promised'. This contest is very political for them in general.

No they didn't but I read somewhere that a insider or someone said it

Oh, I thought we had good enough relations with Australia for them to choose us :p

Started when they got 8 points from Cyprus but the Cypriot jury never voted for them and they wasn't receiving phone calls just SMS messages

But there is a lot of Germans/Greeks/Bosnians living there which would factor a decision

I never knew that, get it Germany! I wonder if they'd have Australian hosts?

EspeonBB 16-03-2016 10:20 PM

I think Azerbaijan also arrested some people who voted for Armenia (their sworn enemies) one year (2010 I think?)

Doesn't change the fact they've released a bop this year!

T* 16-03-2016 10:38 PM

Yeah in 2009 there was some weird conflicts between the two in the contest
People were questioned by police if they voted for Armenia which in turn got them sanctioned by the EBU, Also happening that year- The graphic designer accidentally put in a statue of a de jure part of Azerbaijan in the Armenian postcard too and Azerbaijan complained for it to be removed, in which Armenia retaliated by using a clipboard and background with the statue on it to reveal their results.
(Azerbaijan also blurred out the number to vote for Armenia!!)

T* 16-03-2016 10:39 PM

But they still have a good song this year, and that doesn't change that

Nicky91 17-03-2016 09:20 AM

well Malta is at a 5th place in the bookmakers

and Ira Losco is amazing, according to some people who have already heard her song for this year :) :)

Nicky91 18-03-2016 07:43 AM

I LOVE This song, for Ira Losco

definitely getting my vote this year, my revenge for last year ;)

Black Dagger 18-03-2016 12:04 PM

Wasn't really worth the hassle of changing, still think it's a farce it was allowed but oh well.

Eurovision Song Contest concept to be developed in Asia!

Australian broadcaster SBS has secured an exclusive option to secure the TV format

Geneva, Switzerland Australian broadcaster SBS has announced that it has signed an exclusive option with the EBU to establish an Asian version of the Eurovision Song Contest. SBS and production partners, Blink TV, are now exploring the opportunity to establish the format in the Asia Pacific region, bringing together up to 20 countries to compete in one extraordinary live annual Grand Final.
"The first Eurovision Song Contest was held in 1956 with the aim of uniting nations and exploring new television technology. Since then, over 50 nations have taken part in this competition which reaches nearly 200 million viewers in Europe every year", said Jon Ola Sand, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The inaugural event would be hosted by Australia in 2017 and thereafter in other countries in the Asia Pacific. The broadcast rights will be licensed on a global basis and the event will offer the chance for Asia Pacific countries to showcase their song writing and performing talent to the world.

Chairman of the Reference Group of the Eurovision Song Contest, Dr. Frank-Dieter Freiling said:

"We are excited by the fact that Eurovision’s appeal is crossing continental borders to Asian countries. SBS Australia has been broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest for over 30 years, so we feel they are a perfect partner to build an alliance of networks with, and give Asian songwriters and artists the opportunity to perform on the Eurovision stage".
SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid explained:

"As the official broadcaster of the Eurovision Song Contest for over 30 years, SBS is pleased to explore the opportunity to bring an event of this calibre more closely to our shores, strengthening the multicultural ties in our region. Asia Pacific has a spectacular music culture and the perfect next step to extend the Eurovision brand, bringing its hugely popular appeal beyond Australian audiences and to the wider region".
Blink TV Director Paul Clarke said:

“Since Moscow 2009, alongside SBS, we have been building Australia's alliance with the Eurovision Song Contest, a brand that champions diversity, song writers and performers. Blink TV and SBS have been granted an opportunity to grow the Eurovision brand from an audience of 200 million, to a potential Asian audience of more than a billion viewers. I am certain we can build the team for this wonderful opportunity, and we look to partners in our part of the world to join us. Asia has an astonishing set of musical and visual cultures, and it will make for brilliant television.”
In May Australia will compete in the Eurovision Song Contest for the second time. Last year Guy Sebastian represented Australia and finished 5th in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Dami Im will represent Australia in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm.

This is pretty cool. Eurovision will always remain superior though.

Black Dagger 21-03-2016 01:36 PM

I'd watch it :clap1:

Plus it'd stop the 'AUSTRALIA AIN'T EUROPE' comments we've got for the last 2 years even though I've enjoyed their presence.
