I think if you imagine Trump with more brains, smoother charisma and less comedy... you have a potentially extremely dangerous situation.

they are saying that Pompeo matches that criteria, and he is a lot smarter than Trump. He has been busy leaving little mines in foreign policy all over the place to cause Biden problems

I think the republicans will probably try someone more moderate this time around, Trump lost in a decisive fashion, the republicans lost a lot of swing votes that Trump had in 2016. I don't think another extreme candidate will tempt them back, not when Biden's likely to right the ship and keep it steady.

I assume they'll go for someone like Mitt Romney, a lot of his actions lately have seemed like a ploy to position himself as a candidate for 2024 to bring back the middle ground voters.

The voter base is now heavily split though; there is a huge chunk of that Trump-support (and that is essentially what they are at this point... Trump fanatics, not by-the-numbers Republicans) who are very, very angry about Republican figures like Romney not falling in line under the Trump banner. They're in the odd position where they need all of their voters, and have a voter base coming from two angles; rich Republicans who want rock bottom taxes, and red state ... umm ... sheep. Those used to be easy to snare (shout "Communism BAD. Democrats COMMUNISM!" at them) but Trump has them all fired up to the point where they have been promised, and so now WANT, much more than that. They'll be looking hard for a new messiah.

Trump wants to pardon people with severe crimes where as Obama pardoned a lot of people with minor crimes like petty theft and food stamp fraud so says a lot about the 2

It will make a huge difference the moment Trump is out of power. People have very short memories. The masses have always been the same. The moment some spoilt brat isn't spouting lies constantly every day for consumption, people will move on, and the extremists voice will be gone.

Upshot is, i think things need to settle down for 6-12 months and Biden will provide that stability. I wouldn't normally give Joe the time of day, but in these specific circumstances, he is pretty much ideal for the job

The Slim Reaper 18-01-2021 12:59 PM

I think anyone suggesting things will go back to normal after trump, are forgetting the Obama years, with birther conspiracies, open racism, and the tea party crazies.

Republicans have been building to trump since Nixon, so there is no chance they call it a day and take their ball home now they were on the brink of an authoritarian take over. It was the republican base that handed trump an easy primary win, and his support has grown massively since 2015.

Ehhh.

Was life for the Average Joe really any worse under Trump than for Obama? And was life under Obama any better than under Bush?

C'mon.

Until there's a President who's actually really really good/terrible, things'll just trundle along the same way they have for the past couple of decades.

Soaring property prices and stagnating pay means life has been getting worse for Average Joe for decades. It's the same here in the UK but, other than maybe London, the US is actually worse - rents and mortgages in the cities are bordering on hilarious.

I guess f it's been happening for decades, then it was on Trump, Obama, AND Bush to sort it!

This whole thing is quite scary really. Its a cult. But not a 'normal' cult, but one with millions in. They aren't too dangerous generally speaking when its small groups..but this is a different kettle of fish.

Thats better Fold up beds on the Marble Floor.

Meanwhile, the FBI
are going through all Duty Troop members records (25,000 of them)
to make sure they are not Dangerous Trump backers.

Also Trumps Big Hotel
in Washington DC, is now up for sale.
Great Building.

Our UK based

Big day coming up, inauguration eve.

Trump expected to announce pardons. Will he, won't he?

Assange is the big name that the World is waiting on.

Sticks 19-01-2021 04:41 AM

And then he will declare Marshall Law and Biden and Harris will be arrested to be tried by a military court. The guilty verdicts and death sentences are a mere formality...

bots 19-01-2021 05:25 AM

if they take out Biden, Harris and Pelosi at the inauguration, Chuck (a republican) becomes the next president. So there are still some scary possibilities

Maybe the traditional handover tour never happened, because there will be no handover?

I think the Capitol Hill incident and trying to steal an Election is far worse than anything Obama or Bush have done domestically imo.

joeysteele 19-01-2021 09:12 AM

Melania Trump's farewell address called for the total opposite of just about all that's been under her husband's one term Presidency.

Maybe she should have been the President the last 4 years.

Trump ‘furious’ so many celebrities performing for Biden inauguration...

Donald Trump is furious that so many top celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Tom Hanks, are going to feature at president-elect Joe Biden’s inaugural celebrations on Wednesday, in stark contrast to his own event four years ago.

https://uk.yahoo.com/news/trump-furi...063000056.html

...oddly he didn’t even appear to work up to ‘furious’ with the Capitol Hill attack when lives were lost...but Lady GaGa giving Biden her applause...a step too far...Hell hath no fury like a Trump out-celebritied...

Niamh. 19-01-2021 09:14 AM

It's actually a terrible rule that one person can pardon someone who has been tried and convicted through the justice system, especially people who have been convicted of murder or any violent crimes

Capitol Hill fed his ego, celebs performing for Biden and not him takes away from his ego, he's a simple man with simple needs ..........
