Roman Pavlyuchenko to Arsenal? Spurs striker tipped for £6m move across north London

Arsenal could find a new striker just a few miles up the Seven Sisters Road.

Sensational reports in Russia claim Tottenham Hotspur have offered Roman Pavlyuchenko to their arch-rivals for just £7million.

Arsene Wenger looks like being forced into the transfer market following the £25m sale of Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City and injury to Samir Nasri that will keep him out for about three months.

Sportsmail reported this week that Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac is Wenger's preferred target, though Bordeaux's Marouane Chamakh, Hoffenheim's Demba Ba and Newcastle's Obafemi Martins are also in his sights.

However, Russian tabloid Tvoi Den claims Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has gone directly to Arsenal to offer 27-year-old Pavlyuchenko, who has bought a house near London following his £13.8m move from Spartak Moscow last summer.

He has been linked with Villarreal, Stuttgart, and Besiktas among others, and an associate of his says he knows nothing of apparent interest from Roma.

Viktor Kolar, who is not Pavlyuchenko's primary agent but played a part in the deal taking him to Tottenham, said: "I don't know anything. By reading the papers I learned that the club (Roma) would make a move for the player, but with regards to myself no one has made me aware of anything.

"There's nothing concrete because there have been no offers made either to the club or to the player.

"I don't have any idea how they can write that Roman will be at Roma. I spoke to the management and I know that next year he will be part of a serious project.

"He still has many years on his contract and he intends to prove also in England how much he is worth."

Tottenham, meanwhile, have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich hitman Luca Toni.

The Italy striker's starting place is in doubt at the Allianz Arena, which is not healthy heading towards next year's World Cup finals.

The 32-year-old is said to be an alternative to Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who is believed to be close to accepting an offer to leave Real Madrid for Stuttgart, despite interest from Tottenham.

I Hope Not!!

30stone 21-07-2009 05:41 PM

We should still offer for Huntelaar.

Report: Wenger To Make Offer For Real Madrid's Huntelaar

Arsenal are set to bid for Real Madrid striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as the seek reinforcements in the front line following Emmanuel Adebayor's departure to Manchester City, according to the Metro.

Real Madrid will be looking to recoup the £20 million they paid for the Dutch international in January and Huntelaar is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League.

Stuttgart are also closely monitoring the player as there seems little room for Huntelaar among the Galacticos in the Spanish capital, and Arsenal will have to act fast to seal the deal.

So far, the Gunners have added just centre-half Thomas Vermaelen during the transfer window and the fans are desperate for more signings after four years without a trophy.

Hopefully fabregas Arshavin van persie and Gallas get injured before the season start

I hope we keep everyone else, we will really miss nasri..

Jayson 21-07-2009 05:47 PM

Hopefully we decide to make the offer for Huntelaar, but I have a feeling we wont :/

AC Milan are eager for England midfielder David Beckham to repeat his loan spell at the club this season.

Beckham, who plays for LA Galaxy in the United States, spent five months on loan with Milan last season at the end of the Major League Soccer campaign.

"The most likely hypothesis is that Beckham plays for us from January until the end of the season," said Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani.

"Then he returns to America without all the fuss that happened last March."

But Galliani dismissed speculation that the Italian giants would try to buy Beckham, who has suffered a negative response from some Galaxy fans on his return to LA.

A price in the region of £11.2m has been mentioned for Beckham, but Milan said "insurmountable financial obstacles" would restrict their involvement with him to another loan deal.

Chester v liverpool on thursday

30stone 22-07-2009 02:02 AM

SC Columbia: 1
* Lehner 35

Arsenal: 7
* Bendtner 36, 44,
* Ramsey 39, 83,
* Van Persie 56 (pen), 73,
* Gallas 7

Nicklas Bendtner, Robin van Persie and Aaron Ramsey scored two apiece as Arsenal kicked off their mini-European tour with a comfortable victory over SC Columbia.

Arsène Wenger’s side did suffer a minor embarrassment when a freakish goal from Patrick Lehner gave the amateurs a shock first-half lead.

That delighted a record crowd of 6,900 at the Schwarzlackenau Stadium but it merely stung Arsenal into action. Bendtner equalised within a minute and grabbed another after Ramsey had fired the visitors ahead.

Van Persie slotted home a penalty early in the second half and nodded in Bacary Sagna’s cross to make it five. William Gallas got in on the act before the end and Ramsey fired in late on to round off another useful workout.

Wenger’s men will slowly crank up the intensity as they put the building blocks in place for the new campaign. Their next stop is just across the border in Hungary for Monday’s friendly at Szombathelyi.

The build-up to this game was dominated by the news that Samir Nasri will be out for up to three months after fracturing his right fibula in training. It is a substantial blow to Arsenal even if the return of Tomas Rosicky will compensate for his loss.

The Czech was rested for this game after making his long-awaited comeback at Barnet on Saturday but we did get a first glimpse of Emmanuel Eboue, Denilson, Abou Diaby, Ramsey and Bendtner this summer. They made the starting line-up while Kolo Toure, Bacary Sagna, Van Persie and Alex Song were named on the bench. Armand Traore and Philippe Senderos, back from season-long loan spells, were also among the substitutes.

The biggest name on the SC Columbia teamsheet was their 44-year-old free-kick specialist Julius Simon - although he would not get a chance to show off his party trick on this occasion. The Slovakia international scored 10 times last season as his team finished halfway up the Austrian Fourth Division.

The amateurs from Floridsdorf weren’t expected to trouble their illustrious visitors but that didn’t stop the locals packing out the Schwarzlackenau Stadium – with the help of a small but boisterous Arsenal contingent. Beer and music were in plentiful supply as a festival atmosphere kicked in well before kick-off.

As expected the game was played almost exclusively in the Austrians’ half but Arsenal’s radar was off in the first half-hour or so.

Andrey Arshavin slotted wide after two minutes, Bendtner followed suit shortly afterwards, Ramsey also missed the target from just outside the box and Thomas Vermaelen squandered a decent chance for his first Arsenal goal, lashing a shot wide after Ramsey’s clever chip had fallen for him eight yards out.

Meanwhile, Gerhard Taschwer earned his corn in the Columbia goal. The keeper pushed away Diaby’s fierce shot at his near post and denied the Frenchman again when he tried his luck from long range.

Despite the pedestrian pace of what was essentially a training exercise, it seemed a matter of time before Arsenal broke the deadlock. Then Columbia raised the biggest cheer of the evening with a goal completely against the run of play.

It was a farcical one from Arsenal’s perspective. Mikael Silvestre played the ball back to Almunia but the Spaniard’s first touch was slightly heavy. As Lehner slid in, Almunia’s attempted clearance ricocheted off the striker and into the net.

Suitably embarrassed, Arsenal were stung into action. Within a minute they were level as Diaby charged down the right channel and squared the ball for Bendtner to tap into the roof of the net.

The scoreline soon had a more predictable look to it. Within three minutes of the Dane’s equaliser, Ramsey evaded a challenge on the edge of the Columbia box and slammed a shot into the bottom corner.

Four minutes later, Bendtner doubled his own tally. Running from deep, the striker flicked the ball to Ramsey and then collected the return pass inside the box before jinking past Taschwer and rolling the ball into the net.

It was a sign that Arsenal could pick up the pace at will.

Wenger made eight changes at the break with Senderos deployed in a defensive midfield role – quite possibly a first for the Swiss. And two of those substitutes linked up for Arsenal’s fourth goal as Traore’s cross was handled and Van Persie fired home from the spot.

The Dutchman so nearly set up a fifth for Denilson on the hour mark but, once again, Taschwer did well, rushing out to block the Brazilian’s low shot.

Wilshere and Ramsey returned to the fray with 20 minutes to go as Arshavin and Eboue were given a breather. Regardless of their personnel, Arsenal kept the scoreboard ticking over.

First Van Persie buried a header from Sagna’s right-wing cross and Gallas did likewise with 14 minutes remaining. Then Ramsey rounded things off with a fizzing shot which flew in off the post.

Masch 'wants Spain move'
Midfielder's agent claims Liverpool player is unsettled in England

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano is keen to secure a move to Spain as he has grown 'tired of life in England', according to his agent.

The Argentina international is a reported target of Real Madrid and Barcelona, but the enforcer remains part of Reds manager Rafa Benitez's plans.

However, Mascherano's representative, Walter Tamer, has claimed the 25-year-old has grown unsettled in the Premier League and is eager to move abroad.

Tamer is quoted by Infobae.com as saying: "Barcelona is the easiest deal to set up as Javier wants to go to Spain. He is tired of life in England.

"His wife has not been given a permanent visa. She has to go through an odyssey each time she wants to go.

"Liverpool refuse to sell, this can be overcome with an extraordinary offer."

Striker to snub Gunners move

Arsenal, 12:58, July 22, 2009

Arsenal are set to miss out on Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh who says talks with Sunderland are at an 'advanced stage'.
The 25-year-old is one of the most sought after strikers of the transfer window with Arsenal known to be in the hunt to sign him as Arsene Wenger looks to replace Emmanuel Adebayor.

However the Black Cats are now in pole position to do a deal after the Moroccan claimed talks have progressed well.

"Bordeaux have made me a more attractive proposition to stay," Chamakh said in L'Equipe. "So contrary to what some people say, I don't want to leave for money but to experience a new challenge.

"In France, it is impossible that I could go anywhere else than Bordeaux, because that club will remain in my heart. However, I have made the wish to have a new adventure in England, and I would like that idea to happen.

"The contact which has reached advanced stages is with Sunderland. Maybe for some people it is not a great club, but it is fine to me. I know it can be a step forward and it is what I want."

Why do they say that?

He didn't snub us we played down the link earlier in the link because he wasnt good enough.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar stalls on Stuttgart move as Spurs and Arsenal bid to snatch the Real Madrid striker

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is waiting to see if there is a north London scrap for his signature before confirming a move to Stuttgart.

The Real Madrid striker has stalled on negotiations with the German team amid suggestions that Tottenham Hotspur have followed up weeks of interest with an 11th hour formal bid.

Reports in Spain also say Arsenal have entered the race following Emmanuel Adebayor's £25million move to Manchester City.

Madrid last week accepted Stuttgart's bid of £15.6m - that could rise to £17.3m with add-ons - but Huntelaar has taken his time agreeing the move.

German newspaper Bild were confident enough on Tuesday to report it as a done deal, but talks between the 25-year-old and Stuttgart slowed.

Spanish newspaper AS said the official explanation was that they were still haggling on Stuttgart meeting his £60,000 a week Bernabeu wages, but that unofficially Huntelaar was waiting for better offers.

It is understood that the former Ajax striker would prefer to move to the Barclays Premier League.

Weekend reports suggested Chelsea were interested, but Sportsmail understands the Blues are happy with their forward line after Didier Drogba committing himself to a prolonged stay at Stamford Bridge.
