Thank all powers that be for that.

it's all about personal responsibility. If you intend to meet up with vulnerable people, get tested, miss other events etc. Everyone is different, everyone has different priorities and it's up to them to behave responsibly, the same way everyone does in every other aspect of life

bots 15-12-2021 05:14 PM

just as an aside, the BBC coverage of this is shockingly bias. They keep saying that Boris was defeated in the vote in parliament last night, which is an outright lie. At least tell the truth BBC

Does this new strain stay dormant for the 4 weeks the original did, before surfacing as symptoms?

That hasn’t been a feature of any Covid strain. Average 5 days, max 14 days.

Omicron supposedly has a shorter incubation period (symptoms appear faster) on average.

70% of boosted people wont experience any symptoms at all, but given the infection rate is doubling nearly every day, it doesn't stay dormant at all. Also, the original variant usually showed itself in 5 days so i don't know where you got 4 weeks from

I remember way back at the start, it was four weeks after the rugby 6 nations fixtures, in particular, the wales v scotland game, that it all started kicking off in scotland.

I'm sure that's when it was said, maybe I'm wrong though.

But I do know of someone who caught it from his welsh host whilst in wales for the rugby, and he started taking seriously I'll 4 weeks later, he spent the next 2 months on a ventilator.

it can take 2 weeks for the illness to progress to needing hospital, thats common, and what happened to Boris, then 2 weeks in intensive care where you either start recovering or die usually within 2 weeks ... so that takes 4 weeks

With the growth of infections, i wouldnt be suprised if we break 100k infections tomorrow

There is some data that suggests Omicron has more like a 2-3 day incubation period, whereas almost all previous Covid cases were 4-6 days (some longer but vast majority in that range).

Remember when people used to use the phrase when talking about the flu "there's a lot of it going around" I remember them days, still, I never even thought of getting a flu jab when I heard that. Flu was a killer, thankfully it doesn't seem to exist anymore.

By the way, big crowd at the darts tonight, not a mask in sight.

arista 15-12-2021 06:25 PM

The problem is many will
carry on spreading Covid
as they do not have the Funds to stop working.

That a massive error by the Government.

Beso 15-12-2021 06:32 PM

The government are ****ing hopeless.

Generally it seems that most people are simply selfish and ignorant ..

They all want to carry on getting drunk most nights or going to the footie or the world Darts championship or whatever .

Then they worry afterwards if they get poorly

I predict now that the Semi finals and the Final won’t have any audience .. so the atmosphere will be krap

They work hard to keep the country running all year, they deserve to enjoy themselves at Christmas. You know that the Politicians like to let their hair down at Christmas, so why shouldn't the working class?

Alf 15-12-2021 07:00 PM

Well said the Loose woman.

Crimson Dynamo 15-12-2021 07:52 PM

I see we are back to infections numbers porn by the news media

There'll be a lot of shop closures, supply chain disruption, understaffed vital services etc and yes like he says there are a lot of people who can't afford to not work for that long

It Omicron symptoms are milder and we're going to have to live with high case numbers then maybe they should cut the isolation time for a positive test

It’s just common sense surely though ..

If they’ve found 80,000 positive cases today can you imagine how many there REALLY are in the country !!

Sure it will be great if it IS indeed milder than Delta but that could mean fewer deaths but millions in intensive care or at least needing hospital care ..

I’m genuinely terrified ... I’ve still got the next two days working in a high school :(

No it could not

You may as well spend all day stressing about a meteor strike

People get sick during the winter, always have done, always will do. I have done before, I will do again. The way we're living at the moment is no way to live life. We only get one and it could end at any time, why waste it? This will be the last Christmas for many, many people, live it.
