Parliament is on holiday

The police were stripped down to nowt over the last 15 years like every other public service due to "austerity cuts" and the government realistically can't do anything other than try to get the police to do something. There's no magic button to press to immediately restore the public sector to functioning order over night.

The government do have an a few options but they won't want to press the button on them

Any military option is a path to further civil unrest, especially in a post-Covid world. I'd be genuinely concerned if they went that route. Far scarier than some wee angry boys in hoodies kicking in the window of the local Gregs.

The first step would be a nationwide curfew for anyone who doesn't have to work or have medical emergencies

Same deal, with Covid restrictions fresh in the memory, any curfew or travel restriction is going to go down like a lead balloon and see even more unrest IMO.

I ain't abiding by no curfew because a few teenagers and 20 year olds want a ruck
