The Best Moment Of the Night: Lady Gaga and R. Kelly performed their hit song, “Do What U Want,” with a backdrop that was supposed to be the White House. R. Kelly played the president, with Gaga as his mistress. They had teased this performance with their rehearsal on Saturday Night Live, but the actual performance was incredible: Lady Gaga played secretary Marilyn Monroe to R. Kelly’s JFK complete with dozens of dancing Marilyns and Kellz in a real life meets Scandal dance number.

How to Upstage Miley at the 2013 American Music Awards? Be Lady Gaga, on a Horse, of Course
If there's any star these days who's difficult to steal the spotlight from — it's the tongue-wagging, twerking, eyebrow-morphing Miley Cyrus. However at the 2013 American Music Awards, it was another celeb's turn to grab back center stage; making such a stunning entrance that Cyrus herself admitted defeat.
That would be Lady Gaga, of course, who pre-Miley was accostumed to owning these events. Tonight, the singer arrived on scene poised on a Trojan horse (powered by two hidden humans inside), dressed in a Grecian gown...and right smack in the middle of Cyrus's red-carpet interview.
Cyrus put on a wry face for the massive upstage. "You can stop interviewing me now," she deadpanned. "I'm so boring, I'm back to normal."
Indeed, Cyrus was dressed in an uncharacteristically low-key outfit — a simple while pantsuit accented with tasteful hair and makeup — and was giving benign commentary on the special performance she had planned for the awards show in honor of her 21st birthday, which she celebrated Saturday.
Speaking like a jaded veteran of red carpet wars, Cyrus was impressively humorous about her rival's splash. "What a [expletive] scene stealer," Cyrus noted dryly. "Next time I'm coming in on a dragon."
For those wondering about Gaga's horse, the superstar later explained that she wanted to channel a disco vibe; using '70s icon Bianca Jagger — who famously arrived for her birthday party at Studio 54 in 1977 mounted on a (real) white steed — for insipration.

BILLBOARD
During the hands-down most elaborate performance at the 2013 American Music Awards, Lady Gaga and R. Kelly fashioned themselves a salacious secretary and President Kellz while playing their new hit "Do What U Want" in a faux Oval Office.
After pantomiming a phone call in which Gaga asked "President Kelly" what he wanted for lunch ("Girl, you been working for me for six long years, you know what I want!" quoth Robert Sylvester), an elaborate dance sequence inside the President's chambers kicked off, with Kelly gazing on with piqued interest while resisting the urge to partake in any choreography. During the first half of the performance, Gaga nuzzled against the R&B icon's ear and slid between his legs while belting her half of the duet.
"Who put these pictures on Instagram!" Kelly bellowed mid-song, holding up his phone before being shuffled offstage. The whole experience smacked of the singer's "Trapped In The Closet" hip-hopera until Gaga ended the performance with a fiery rendition of the chorus, as video of the pop superstar playing the piano as a child played behind her. Eventually, that video was paired with screens that blasted headlines like "Lady Gaga Is Fat" and "Lady Gaga Is Over."

HOLLYWOOD LIFE
If you thought Gaga arriving to the AMAs on horseback was her biggest shocker of the night, you clearly missed her insane duet with R. Kelly.
Lady Gaga lives for the applause, and she got her fill at the 2013 American Music Awards. No stranger to the AMAs stage, this year’s performance blew all others out of the water, pairing Gaga up with R. Kelly for an unbelievable performance of “Do What U Want.” And I really do mean unbelievable. I refuse to believe I saw what I saw.
Playing the Marilyn to R. Kelly’s “President Kelly,” Gaga answered a phone call from her collaborating partner — and that’s when things got sexy. The fake Oval Office (Faux-val Office?) quickly transformed into a dance floor, which Gaga and her back-up dancers promptly tore up.
Stripping down to various states of undress, Gaga got freaky with dancer after dancer, before feasting her eyes upon the main course: President Kelly.
Sadly, the Commander in Chief denied any relations with Gaga, leaving her screaming, “Do what you want with my body!” all by her lonesome.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Gaga and R. Kelly have teamed up to shock the masses. You may recall the Nov. 16 episode of Saturday Night Live, which found the twosome simulating sex — at least we think they were only simulating it — on the floor of the SNL stage.
We thought that was the craziest Gaga performance yet, but clearly, she was just getting warmed up for the American Music Awards.

If there were ever a strong case to be made for R. Kelly shooting about 50 more chapters of "Trapped in the Closet" starring Gaga, it would be their wonderfully wackadoodle performance at the 2013 AMAs. Their recent "SNL" performance of ARTPOP's best track, "Do What U Want," was just a basic disco twerkout, but their AMAs duet had a whole (seemingly JFK/Marilyn, Clinton/Lewinsky-inspired) plot about President Kelly and his torrid affair with a leotarded secretary. It was all very awesome, further proof that Gaga can do whatever she wants.

THE MIRROR
Lady Gaga always goes one better than the average celebrity, from a meaty dress to actually being born on the red carpet (remember the egg entrance on the 2011 Grammys?) - the wacky singer manages to find a way to upstage everyone.
On Sunday evening the ARTPOP creator decided to straddle a horse - creating a Lady Godiva effect, although Gaga decided to keep her clothes on - wearing a flowing lilac gown with her usually mad hair teased into a silky 'do - scroll down for more pictures.
Pokerface singer Gaga rode sidesaddle on the white puppet horse animated by two Lyrca clad men as she was whisked into the awards. Her chunky choice of footwear meant Do U Want singer had to be hoisted from the all white horse by a hunky helper.
Gorgeous Gaga was at the award to perform her latest single alongside R Kelly - and the saucy show raised more than a few eyebrows.
The pair already dry humped on SNL so they decided to play house by sending up the White House.
R Kelly played the president while a demure Lady G plays his assistant.
Cue much purring, desk dancing and a few jazzy moves... all after R Kelly decides he wants "Italian" for lunch.

Lady Gaga and R. Kelly get "Trapped in the Closet"
If you aren't familiar with the rap opera that is R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet," we can't even begin to describe it to you, so get thee to Google. The AMA performance with Gaga on their collaboration "Do What U Want" was definitely reminiscent of that dramatic saga.
It appeared to be a play on the reported John F. Kennedy/Marilyn Monroe romance as Gaga played secretary to his "President Kelly" and stripped down to a spangled bodysuit. The pair sang their dialogue before actually launching into the song that they also so memorably performed on "Saturday Night Live."
It was ... interesting.

We've Missed Your Style, Gaga
She didn't wear a meat dress or pop out of an egg, but Lady Gaga did make a huge fashion splash at the 2013 American Music Awards. She wore three different looks during the show.
Lady Gaga is back in a big way with her new album ARTPOP, so it's only appropriate that she made a big return to the award-show scene. The singer arrived at the 2013 American Music Awards in a way that only she can: riding a white "horse" made of men.
Her fashion? Incredible. The New York native wore head-to-toe Versace and gave off a distinct Disney-princess vibe — we're thinking Rapunzel.
The violet Versace didn't last long, though. Once the show started, Gaga switched her look to a silver, sparkly mermaid gown while perched in the front row with R. Kelly and (we assume) new BFF Taylor Swift, who also dominated the AMAs red carpet.
Of course, that look didn't last long, either. She soon switched out her long gown for a flirty frock for her sexy performance of "Do What U Want" with Kelly. The whole performance was a tongue-in-cheek ode to all of the sex scandals that have rocked politics — and the Oval Office — over the years, so it's only natural that her shimmery minidress was a little Marilyn Monroe-esque.
Our favorite outfit of the night? Definitely the violet Versace gown. While we love the risks she takes with her fashion, we're loving her girly side more.

RAP UP
With ARTPOP at No. 1 on the charts, pop’s reigning queen Lady Gaga put on a presidential performance with R. Kelly at Sunday’s American Music Awards. Following their racy appearance on “SNL,” the duo mixed business with pleasure while performing their hit “Do What U Want.”
Kellz played the president while Gaga was his secretary in the dramatic presentation, inspired by “Scandal” and Kellz’ own “Trapped in the Closet” series.
They made love on top of the desk and Kellz pulled out his phone at one point, asking, “Who put these pictures on Instagram?”
He gushed about Gaga on the red carpet. “Lady Gaga is one of the coolest girls I’ve ever met in my life,” Kellz told E! “She’s real, she’s very talented, she writes her own music, and when we met it was like I met my match.”
Watch them get naughty in the Oval Office.
