If we don't find out his name after all this I won't be happy. I can see them stating his name but the audience won't hear it.

"Run you clever boy... and remember me"
Is that the first time we've heard her add "me" on the end? |

So, most of the actual episode was already revealed in preview clips, the trailer and the radio advert.
Decent episode but seemed a bit run of the mill. So the John Hurt speculation was right... Seems he is the true 9th Doctor who ended the Time War, or he's the true first Doctor before Hartnell? If he's 9 then Smith is 12 and Moffat has decided to address the 13 regenerations stuff. Or we're essentially still at the same point we were before the episode and aired and have to wait for the 50th to get any actual clarification. But that's my big problem with Moffat, it's always set up, then more set up, just a bit more set up, never actually paying a lot of stuff off. :D |
That ending was confusing lol, I'm glad they finally gave River Song an ending too. This was probably the best Moffat finale we've had, it didn't feel "all over the place" for once.

It was a great episode apart from the last five minutes, it was a ****ty place to leave it to say that it'll be months before the next episode and it left the episode feeling unfinished.
As for John Hurt I've got two theories that run along a similar thought. I think he's a future Doctor that lost sight of who he is and in the 50th Anniversary Special he'll either help the Doctors in avoiding a threat of his own creation which will fix whatever wrongs he has committed and will set him up as the next Doctor when Matt Smith leaves. Or, what I believe to be more likely, he'll be the main villain and he'll eventually be written out of time by the end of the episode. |
I think it's safe to say he's a doctor that's will likely slide in between Paul McGann and Christopher. My theory is that John Hurt is the doctor what took part in the time war and effectively ended it.
He said himself, "what I did, I did without choice, for the sake of peace and sanity" |
One thing
That was the 11th Doctor's TARDIS at Trenzalore, does all that still exist at the end of the episode? |
The first thing I thought when they entered the Tardis was "Uh, Moffat's basically preventing the inside from ever being redesigned" but then after that ending I'm not sure if that will now change.

Holy Bleep that finale. (It just aired in the States)
John Hurt has to be the time war doctor that ended the time war. Then a bit later he regenerated into Christopher |
Possibly, perhaps McGann's Doctor got killed during the time war, then John Hurt's Doctor came about, a Doctor, born into the time war, we know 10.5 commited genocide against the Daleks because he was born into the small scale war, imagine what a Doctor born into the hell that was the time war would be like.

10.5? Don't you mean 8.5?
