I have never warmed to Meghan. I don't think it's fair to say that people who don't like her are racist. It seems like if you don't agree with an alternative view then you are a tabloid-led simpleton. I think it's more to do with who she is and where she comes from. California smashed together with an ancient institution like the royal family. I mean, look at Wallis Simpson, she was hated and as white as paper.

Here’s a snippet for you from 1990

Their second child, another daughter, Eugenie, was born on 23 March 1990 by caesarean section. During her marriage, the tabloid press ridiculed the Duchess after her weight climbed to 15 stone 10 pounds (100 kg) (220 lbs) labelling her unflatteringly as the "Duchess of Pork".

I'm not allowed to come in here and give my own opinion on the thread topic without then having to deal with being told to shut up and the discussion become about me?

Also, I'm well aware of Fergie and her history, I don't need the wikipedia snippet.

Oh I wouldn't say "People who don't like her are racist" but the rabid torrent of abuse that's been thrown at her from the minute her relationship with him was confirmed definitely has an unsavoury undertone from the gutter press.

But I would expect nothing more from them.

In response to him making the discussion about me?

But then again, that's how you turn the discussion when you have no response. :pat:

Not what I've said is it?

I mentioned her being white and British in response to you trying to compare her media backlash to Meghan's when the two are quite different.

You've literally said "Fergie was called Duchess of Pork" as evidence of Meghan's abuse not being racially motivated.

Cherie 11-01-2020 10:26 PM

As i recall Fergie and Diana were also pitted against each other, it’s what the tabloids do...

That is utter garbage. I read a variety of papers every day, its part of my job to do so and has been for many years, and she didn't get any more abuse than Kate, Fergie, Diana etc got. Did you read the papers all those years ago? In fact she has gotten LESS abuse although a lot of the negative stuff is self inflicted. The papers have printed plenty of positive stuff too, like they did with the others.

Fergie got MORE abuse, so the abuse Meghan got was not racist?

Is that your argument?

Also, unfortunately for famous people, the press goes far beyond the printed words these days so it's a hard one to gauge.

If anything it's convincing me more and more that Meghan's abuse is racist as people like Fergie got so much stick for their looks.

Sarah Ferguson has weighed in on the so-called "feud" between Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, saying it's akin to how she and the late Princess Diana were viewed as "rivals".

Speaking in an open letter published in Hello! magazine, Fergie wrote that, despite saturated news reports at the time, she and Diana never felt any "rivalry" towards each other.

"Women, in particular, are constantly pitted against and compared with each other in a way that reminds me of how people tried to portray Diana and me all the time as rivals, which is something neither of us ever really felt," she wrote in the letter published in Hello! magazine.

The British magazine launched a #HelloToKindness campaign largely in response to a rise in abusive online comments directed at Meghan and Kate.
The Duchess of York wrote that the majority of Twitter and Instagram "terrifies" her and that social media is a "sewer".

"Take a look at any website, and you'll see extraordinarily abusive comments aimed not only at people in the public eye but also other internet users. Bullying, sniping, b****ing, even the most appalling sexism, racism and homophobia are commonplace," she said.

They said they were keeping Frogmore Cottage on the Sussex website statement put out just 10 minutes after informing the palace who knew nothing about its contents. This has been confirmed by palace aides over and over again. Do google before posting dear.

Conveniently glossing over the millions they have earned themselves, however.

The Duchy of Cornwall is the inheritance of whoever happens to be the Prince of Wales. He then uses some of that money to fund WORKING royals, not royals who dont want to do royal work but still want the money.
Do you think they should still receive the 95% of their income from Charles but do little, if anything, to earn it then?

Not really, but I'll wait until that is an actually confirmation and not a rumour to comment. We still don't actually know exactly what their Royal roles will be going forward.

Both have also their own money and stated they want to be independent

Not saying her backlash was justified, however there's a difference to the press turning on you due to your own actions (regardless of if the backlash was out of proportion) and the press just having it out for you from the off because you're clearly not wanted. This is a woman who can't touch her own stomach without it being construed into some outlandish scheme.

Most of the negative press coverage has been due to her own actions. You need to stop reading tabloids and actually read some papers that give proper explanations of her bad decisions and why she isn't gelling with the public.
Educate yourself.
