A leading Tory rebel who voted down Theresa May’s Brexit deal has warned Boris Johnson that he and dozens of colleagues will block any attempt to pass the agreement again – even if the Irish backstop is removed.

Mark Francois, one of 28 Tory MPs who repeatedly held out against May’s deal, said Johnson had been very clear at a meeting of European Research Group MPs that the withdrawal agreement in its entirety was “dead”.

He told the Telegraph’s Chopper’s Brexit podcast: “He was absolutely emphatic about it, so we took him at his word. I don’t think you could revive the withdrawal agreement realistically. Even if you took the backstop out, there are too many other things that are wrong with it.”

The cabinet minister in charge of negotiating a new US trade deal met with a series of rightwing American thinktanks to discuss deregulation and the benefits of “Reaganomics”, new documents have revealed.

Liz Truss, the international trade secretary, had a number of meetings with libertarian groups that have championed parts of Donald Trump’s deregulatory agenda and tax cuts.

New details of her three-day visit to Washington last September have been uncovered by Greenpeace’s investigative journalism team, Unearthed. Truss met senior representatives from the Heritage Foundation, a thinktank committed to shrinking the state and cutting environmental regulation, to discuss “regulatory reform”. Also at the meeting was the Competitive Enterprise Institute. Both groups were part of the “shadow trade talks” project, designed to advocate a wide-ranging US trade deal allowing the import of American goods currently banned in Britain
The Guardian

As expected, getting rid of food and environmental protections to accommodate Americans

Yep think I said that on the first page of the thread.... protections and rights GONE.

i've been to America loads of times, the food has always been delicious, nobody i am aware of has died from eating it, so in terms of problems we will face on leaving the EU, i would put that near the bottom of the list. Food is always labelled with country of origin. People are free to choose what they eat.

of course and that Always should be so, but now or at least it comes across to me like ''american goods which were first banned in britain to be imported'' and foods from Europe to be banned, while i guess there are certain favourite foods of people in britain to be banned

so this whole trade deal needs to be sorted out again, maybe extra bit of taxes on imports from europe because UK no longer being part of EU

since there's also a huge import of flowers coming from my country to the UK, wines coming in from spain, france

i'm starting to understand Brexit the more and more i read, i do agree with the ''closed borders'' thing, as for a stop to immigrants

a deal or a no deal, we dutch still want to have good relationships with Britain, since that Netherlands-UK relationship has been going on for many many years now

we dutch have good relationships with many countries in europe, apart from some eastern european countries like Ukraine
