so perched for tonight's episode

Marsh. 21-10-2018 05:08 PM

No you're not.

The episode itself was fine, but what was with the crap popsong they played toward the end, and then over the credits? The new composer sucks, I can't even remember any of the episodes' scores...

Rob! 21-10-2018 07:37 PM

Bloody hell at the P word at 7:15 :omgno:

That was amazing though. So brave. I am loving this series so far.

Wow. That episode has well and truly brought a tear to my eye. Rosa was and is a champion for civil and human rights. May she rest in peace.

I think the new composer is fine, I got kinda sick of all the repeating motifs by the end of Murray Gold's run as composer.

So glad they managed to do this episode well, was pretty worried about it before hand.

I actually learnt so much that episode. I had no idea Rosa knew MLK, I didn’t know she was married to a white man and I didn’t have a clue that she was still around in 1999 to receive that award

AProducer'sWetDream 21-10-2018 08:29 PM

I loved that episode. Not many Doctor Who stories have made me cry  I loved the music actually. I don't mind if I feel it's justified and suits the scene.

That episide was incredible, one of my favourite ever, but they did NOT just play 'Rise Up' over one of the most incredible and inspirational moments in history :skull:

I imagine some uncomfortable white people will write to Ofcom over it, but the reality is this episode is really educational and informative, people need to be woke and this was a cute way of doing it :clap1:

Headie 21-10-2018 08:39 PM

All these mentions of Grace... producers you know what to do, bring ha back :clap1:

Repeats the tired phrase of 'The Doctor owns a time machine so she could just to back in time and save ha' whilst preparing for the flood of sci-fi nerds to tell me that its not that easy and changing history is dangerous

Headie 21-10-2018 08:44 PM

I'm only halfway through the ep but Ryan getting off the bus at nightime on his own to stalk Rosa is pretty dumb :skull: And the fact that not one of them thought it would be a bad idea either :skull: I can't tell if his character is supposed to be stupid or if it's just the way the actor is playing him

You should read up on Claudette Colvin, the actual first black woman to refuse to give her seat up on the bus, but the Civil Rights Movement didn't want to use her as a face of the movement due to her being a pregnant teen (and some people say because her skin was much darker than Rosa's)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudette_Colvin

She's still alive in 2018!

Scarlett. 21-10-2018 08:53 PM

Apparently the episode was rated the lowest out of any New Who episodes on IMDB...

...before the episode aired.

Racists are pathetic.

Wow what a story. Terrifying to think that it really wasn’t all that long ago and we still have a way to go.

The episode was neat, probably my favourite of the season thus far, but I feel like Rosa's story was outshadowed slightly by the ridiculousness of the alien plotline? I would have liked to see Rosa playing a bigger role to better portray how sad it was to live in such horrid conditions.

I do think the writing this series has been fairly weak, though, which is a shame. The first two episodes were fairly forgettable in the grand scheme of things.

Im just glad that their plot wasnt that Rosa Parks was an alien sent from a planet 300 galaxies away to stop racism and that the episode followed a fairly ... realistic approach (besides the racist alien guy).

Glenn. 21-10-2018 10:10 PM

That racist alien can piss on me tbh

Glenn. 21-10-2018 10:12 PM

The episode was a great educational piece and hopefully many many young children and adults will learn from it. It was so uncomfortable in places but shamefully true to life.

Great episode

Greg! 21-10-2018 11:02 PM

I'm watching it now and it's good but like some of the dialogue is really clumsy and awkward? Idk maybe it's just me

Greg! 21-10-2018 11:07 PM

SHOOK that the evil guy was a prisoner in stormcage just like River

Greg! 21-10-2018 11:21 PM

Ryan is an icon!

Scarlett. 22-10-2018 12:16 AM

It's weird not having pre-titles scenes now
