They did improve, 'reboot' and make some effort to go back to the original idea in Season 10,
but,
This season was geared for children and started off with stupid returning HMs from previous season and so that was that for me.

BBUSA is somewhat successful in its time-slot but it has been no where near the 'social event phenom' that it is with the UK BB.
UKBB has been a major social event of the Summer

(Keep in mind there is 300 million people in the USA so you sort of have to 'per capita' ratings if you want to compare viewership in that sense)

Having said all that:
BBUK 10 has gone a LONG WAY to degenerating itself nearer to the US version and not just by importing 2 Americans into their cast but more for creating a 'Jerry Springer: The Play' situation for themselves and for copying US gimmicks.
Notice the ratings went right down on this seasons BBUK. Which is a 'good sign' regarding the public.

BBUK9 was so many levels beyond and above a BBUS10 I wouldn't even compare them.
Its like comparing a Ferrari race car to a stock Ford.
BBUK9 an entirely higher league altogether.

yeah but you have to remember that

big brother uk is a reality show
big brother us is a game show

once you understand this, it will make a lot more sense.

You have to remember that BBUSA was reclassified from a 'game show' to the same category as 'soap operas' and I recall its something like 'ongoing fictional drama' or some such thing.
This was most apparent in the BB7 'All-Stars' which was basically an 'ongoing script',
and,
became most obvious in BB8 which was also 'written as it went'.
Even in BB8 viewers were phoning the 'game show' authorities to complain of 'rigged competitions' etc only to find out BBUSA has absolutely NO game show requirements at all.
In theory they could just declare anyone winner anytime they wanted.
It is under no gaming or game show regulations anymore.

Once you understand this, it will make a lot more sense.
I would know. All too well.

--------

Somebody else mentioned something about popularity and population.
Well lets suppose 50 million US viewers watch BBUSA and so do 50 Million UK viewers watch theirs.
Okay.
Well it might come down to what 'popularity' means to us.
In the USA that could mean that 1 in 6 Americans are watching the final.
(its stunning and yes I recall one night we got 41 million viewers and I couldn't comprehend it),
but,
You still have 250 million Americans doing something else.
versus.
50 Million UK versions watching a finale and that is just about the entire UK.
(what is the UK now.. 80 million??)

Of course a lot of other variables. what else is on and in what sweet timespot?
Not counting this season - BBUK had its own live-feed Channel.
BBUSA did have an 'HBO After-Dark' timeslot in recent seasons.
BBUK has 5 daily 1 Hour episodes + BBLB and BBBM.
BBUSA runs just 3 times a week with no 'BBLB or BBBM' shows.

I wouldn't try to do the numbers myself but maybe some math keeners here can figure out the actual number of 'BB Hours' (combine all BB programmes) X the number of viewers.
It would dwarf the USA.

btw.. one thing surprised me talking to a BBUSA live-feeds person. Just 20,000 subscriptions (this was a few seasons back) altogether.
I figured way more than that in my mind but apparently its not that many.
But,
It does pay a good chunk of the winning prize. (about 30USD per season of live-feeds). (not that CBS gets all that money but you get the idea).

First of all, calm down.

and secondly, BB US has never been classified as a soap opera

and as i said before: Big Brother US is a big success in America

Well as for Big Brother UK, it is dying a slow and if i may add, :bawling: sad death

and wow, BBUK has a half-hour crappy spin off show which no one watches and is on the verge of being axed.

also, how can you say BBUS was an 'ongoing script' when everything BBUK does revolves around noirin! There's a f#cking script. lets put her ex boyfriend who still loves her and there can be a love triangle. If anything, this sounds like a Cornation street script, which by the way is a soap opera.

and yeah i agree BBUK 9 was much better, but BBUS 11 has an edge over BBUK 10 so far.

It's not a flop but it's not a success either. Only 6 million people watch it, on CBS (which is one of the biggest US channel) at 8pm so it's not like it was the huge event of the year.

I love BB USA, it's been better these last 3 years than BB UK (except BB10). I wish we can have a mix of both versions, Uk and US, it would be my dream Big Brother.

I can't see why people hated BB9 so much. To me it was one of the best series with great personalities and I loved the couple twist, it created so much drama and tension. To me it was awesome.

And we've got a whole section on TIBB to talk about it so be free to share your views on that.

yeah, BB9 was alright

BB9 was great except the winner (Adam ? Really ? Ryan deserved to win)

BB8 is my fave series, that was pure brilliance, it was full of crazy outrageous people. Best final 2 ever.

So far, both series are neck to neck. BB11 provided great moments so far and has smart people to play with and then BB10 UK also provided entertainment and diverse people so I can't say anything right now.
