It is an entertainment show, not a singing competition. Yes it has singing in it and often we might talk about the singing... but it is so much more than that, it is more about the drama around the judges and about the comments made.

If you saw the audition process that is when you would notice it is an entertainment show, they pick bad singers on purpose, they pick people that look cute every year and they pick someone who is sexy every year. I saw the first hand and saw an Eoghan lookalike make it through... even though he forgot his words and couldn't sing. Wheras real talent doesnt make it through.
This show is invented to get viewers... not to launch an unknown singer into stardom, in fact... I bet half the people on the show come from agents.

Agree with some of what you say - but not all. Of course it's a tv entertainment show (it's on tv and it entertains) but the main premise of the show is based on a singing talent contest. It is a singing contest - with bling for entertainment purposes.

Look the pot of gold at the end of the show - the recording contract - is for singers - they can't give a contract to bad singers. Without that pot of gold at the end - less people would be bothered to audition - particularly the real talent - viewing figures would drop - end of show.

There is already Britain's Got Talent for other kinds of entertainment - x-factor is for singers. JEdward do not belong in this competition. Why didn't they enter the other one - because they are deluded - they think they can sing - but they can't. Louis only put them through to annoy Simon - he admitted it! Then all the teenage girls come out in their hoards with big crushes on them voting to keep them in. Louis probably guessed the teenage girls would behave like that - with his experience of boy bands - and knew he could create a headache for Simon.

The press latch onto this making a big thing of it - others jump on the bandwagon and vote for them as well - just to be controversial - and before you know it - it is no longer a singing competition (allegedly).

The press the show is getting is attracting more viewers - making even Simon happy - but that doesn't change the fact that it is a singing contest.

however we have judges with a vested interest in some acts who try as best they can to derail other acts.

so really, its not that much of a singing contest is it?

As tom puts it, it is an entertainment show disguised as a singing competition. Yes there is a pot of gold, but the path to getting that gold is very very twisted. And be assured... the people who finally get it, don't get it fully on their voice. I bet there are people who auditioned who can out sing both Alexandra and Leona...

Not saying they do - but they do need to able to sing - that is the main criteria.

It's a big joke that Cowell has been playing for long enough and I hope that the public get the last laugh by crowing J and E as this years winner.

A truly superficial show. Should be called SexFactor. I am not calling anyone on here who watches it, but it seems to appeal to a narrow minded mass audience who lap up sob stories, good looks and not very good music.

Its a singing contest which is being fiddled about with too much to make it more appealing as a TV show, i.e. bad acts for humour.

It's both. Most of it is an entertainment, but to be fair, usually like 80% of the acts are decent singers and the winner is always a good singer(well if we forget about Steve)
