I was looking at one relating to weight loss, and when I go fed up with it, I tried to leave the page but it threw up some dialogue box so I could not conventionally close the browser without touching on of the buttons in that dialogue box.

Given what happened to me in 2005, there was no way I was going to click on anything that site was "offering" so I used task manager to kill the application and then launched a browser and cleared the internet cache.

So far now word from the anti-virus, but I may run it just in case.

So what ever you do, do not touch any of the adverts.

My question to the mods is how do you make sure these adverts are legitimate and not liable to plant trojans on our systems

I'd love to know where the finance and weight loss ones have sprung about on mine because I don't think I've ever searched for either. The games one is understandable since I use sites like IGN a lot. Then again my whole family uses my user so I'm guessing that's where the random ones come from.

Google ads show ads depend on the keywords on the page - as far as I know, it is not based on what you search for.

I tested the site that 'weird old trick' ad (had to click on a few pages to see it) goes to with http://safeweb.norton.com and http://www.siteadvisor.com/ . Don't think it has a trojan, just an annoying pop-up that appears when you try to leave. Doesn't get much of a rating though from WOT but that is based on user reviews.

Actually I think maybe we can block individual ads from showing.
