Chances are it won't. Films like these always release two soundtracks, one will consist of the instrumentals and music from the actual film itself and the other will be an 'inpsired by....' album which this will be. Thee worst that'll come from it is that a few of these songs will make it on to the end credits.

I wasn't aware that 3OH!3 not being suitable for inclusion anywhere in or around the Alice In Wonderland universe was akin to being a music snob.

It's about producing a fitting soundtrack.

Stop being so defensive all the time.

You should read 'Catcher in the Rye' or 'The Perks of being a Wallflower' they're all about teen angst. I know how hard it is for teens these days, all drama and misery. ;)

Yeah, true. Still, shame to see what should be such good intellectual property get stapled to a mass market cash in of a soundtrack that bears it's name. Hollywood I guess.

I'm surprised Linkin Park aren't on the list. They will play prostitute to anything in order to get another generic single out.

InOne 27-01-2010 07:12 PM

Sort of gone off the whole Depp Burton team lately. Been hit and miss the last few years.

Check out Kerli, I think she'll fit perfectly tbh.
Her music's quite quirky.

I agree. Nothing like the old days. Just quit while your ahead.

The horse may not be dead, but I'm tired of watching it get flogged.

If Tim were to end up at the helm of a movie about The Royal Family, Helena Bonham Carter would probably end up as Diana somehow. Depp of course being the perfect candidate to bring out the dark and sinister side of the Queen.

Indeed, I probably prefer Depp in the films without Burton directing. From Hell, Fear and Loathing, Blow.

When does this film come out anyways? Anyone know?

Tom4784 27-01-2010 07:22 PM

I'll have to respectfully disagree about Tim Burton and his team, I thought Sweeney Todd was excellent and Big Fish was endearing. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was....unfortunate.... But I think the new Alice looks great. He uses Helena and Johnny a lot in his films but that's because they suit the feel he tries to go for.

On the issue of the soundtracks, it's common practice really and for me personally it's more about the film that what merchandise will come from it.

InOne 27-01-2010 07:26 PM

I didn't say all his newer films were bad. And Depp and Helena are excellent actors, but as Stu was saying, it does not always gel right, and they can't be used in any old format.

Shaun 27-01-2010 07:27 PM

The only two artists I really like from that soundtrack list are The All-American Rejects and Franz Ferdinand - but to be honest...

take a look at the last Johnny Depp/Tim Burton jerk-fest. Willy Wonka. That was all kinds of ****, and were you really expecting anything different from this? Let's face it, it'll be a hit with 15 year old girls who think that just because Depp can walk a bit weirdly, he has depth and charm.

I predict it'll be ****.

InOne 27-01-2010 07:30 PM

Yep, dunno why Disney are killing a classic by re-writing it in a totally pointless way.

That's the thing. No matter how good the film will turn out to be it's going to inevitably attract a gaggle of generic suburban scene kids with self imposed life problems and yearning to be different and noticed through the mediums of combining various glossy colours in their outfits and being 'random' in a desperate plea for any sort of attention. The cinemas will be like a fucking Oli Sykes lookalike convention. Hundreds of people trying to be different and yet all looking the exact same.

God, I really hate kids.

Shaun 27-01-2010 07:32 PM

I'm only really interested in it because of Alan Rickman and Stephen Fry's involvement. I do like Helena Bonham-Carter too, but she too falls under the "omg i have weird hair loooook" category.

Stu 27-01-2010 07:34 PM

She does a cracking Bellatrix Lestrange and Marla Singer. Not nuts about her apart from that.

I never said you were and I agree, Burton at his best only works in certain formats and CATCF wasn't one of them

Ironically Burton's version is meant to be more true to the original book in aesthetics and tone then the original animation. the news has been good as well from what I've heard of previews and such.

It might not be as good as the hype surrounding it but I'll be surprised if it turns out as bad as Charlie was.

That's why you go to the cinemas during the week when they're at school

The trailer I saw was about Alice going back to Wonderland and the queen had taken over the whole kingdom or something :S
