"I completely agree. It's obvious as to who did it and why, and it's the main reason why I'm becoming sick and tired of this forum."

Ohhh Jack

FrenchManiac 30-01-2010 09:32 PM

I don't really find **** that offensive.

Enid 30-01-2010 10:02 PM

It's all or nothing.

I don't get why they'd censor sh!t and not wanker.

It's not an action taken to better the forum, but rather a backlash against certain members just as a pointless demonstration of power. Why is it censored? Is there any verifiably positive moral and/or ethical reasons to come out of the act of censoring it? Why is the forum intent still on attracting kids? The forum is not suitable for kids nor is the forums subject matter. You know, that bit after http://www.thisis.

Why have these questions gone unanswered? Has a thirteen year old ever countributed, one or two exceptions aside, anything but trolling insanity? Then why protect them and encourage them to join? Are they going to slot right in next to the discussions about foreplay and the disguised racism that festers in the Serious Debates section, or something? Is Ghostinthehouse going to take them to one side and teach them about the wonders of adulthood?

[Waits for the first person to come along to make the assumption that just because I am annoyed at the principal, it must indicate that I need the word sh1t in order to express myself ...]

Can you please stop with these posts about how you think 13 Teen year olds are taking over the site

Its getting boring now, the young members arent as bad as you keep making out.

Yes there is a few knobs but thats not fair to say its just the young ones as most of the prats on here arent even Teenagers.

Thank You.

Enid 30-01-2010 10:09 PM

Considering most of the members probably are teenagers, I'd say it was a fair assumption.

Stacey. 30-01-2010 10:10 PM

some people think everything revolves Around age

Could you please point out the part of the post in which I said thirteen year olds are taking over the site? And in the meantime realise teenagers span the scope of 13-19, which includes me, so I wasn't reffering to all teenagers?

Ta.

On the other hand, wank is still a-okay :).

Well what else would I be wanking?

Good to see James takes sentence structure into consideration.

BB_Eye 01-02-2010 01:24 AM

Ridiculous. Even PG-rated movies have the word s-h-i-t in them.

_Seth 01-02-2010 01:52 AM

To be fair, originally "****" was censored, so the bypass for that was "sh1t," but that's been forgotten about.

oh great, now ****'s censored. FFS

MissKittyFantastico 01-02-2010 02:04 AM

I think I answered this a bit flippantly when it came up before so here are the reasons for swearing being filtered / not allowed on forums...
  • It cheapens the forum. Someone who returned to the forum when Big Brother (10) was on actually said that the amount of swear words in topic titles made the forum look tacky. It's a bit like text speech, we could allow that easily but that cheapens the forum. I added '****' to the censor because I noticed someone was adding it a lot to topic titles.
  • People don't like to be sworn at, it can look aggressive when written down and cause more arguments. The point about PG films isn't really relevant because swearing in films is spoken and can easily be ironic or comic. More difficult to tell on a forum.
  • Word censors are quite common on the Internet and other forums have them.
  • The old forum had a swear-word filter. Why change?

Fair enough. For strong words, though. What about the fact that everyone even avoids the censorship by italicing a letter?

Words like the f word should, but sh!t, notso. =/
