Oh okay, so thats were the place at the start of the movie was ment to be..

If im honest, if they were going to build a replica it should be in Belfast no Southampton, doesnt matter if it sailed from there even though that may be a big part of it, it was made here you get me?

Its like if they were going to make a Cruise ship though, then it would probley go to Southampton then, as it would be leaving on the same route as the Ship.

But building a replic, should be placed in the place were the original was build.

They shouldn't raise it, they should keep it where it is.. But i would agree to having like a replica built for tourists!

Jessica. 02-03-2010 06:03 PM

No way!!!!!!

MrGaryy 02-03-2010 06:04 PM

I think it sounds like a really cool idea to be honest.

Yes it shouldnt be raised.

Agree with that last part also.

Iceman 02-03-2010 06:10 PM

No the people who died should be left to rest there.

Patrick 02-03-2010 06:17 PM

For the last time, I DO NOT MEAN RAISING THE SHIP FROM THE WATER, with Bones flying off.

It would be rude, like you lot have said.

Plus like I have said, it would crumble to peices because its been there so long.

Dom:) 02-03-2010 06:18 PM

Yes!

Iceman 02-03-2010 06:18 PM

Oh right i didnt read it properly, sorry!

Sorry didnt mean that to sound like I was saying it in a bad way to you, but its annoying when people repeatly say 'No its disrespectful to raise it' when I didnt say in my post that it should be took from the sea bed.

Its now not only rude its also illegal.

The United States Congress responded to previous salvage expeditions by passing laws that made illegal the unauthorized removal of artifacts from the Titanic wreckage.

A treaty between Britain Canada the US and France also prevents attempts to raise artifacts or salvage the vessel.

They should build a new Titanic piece by piece and have it set sail from Southhampton on the anniversary and just pray it arrives in New York, lol.

Callum 02-03-2010 09:53 PM

I would love for a replica to be built. The Titanic story has always intrigued me and it would be so cool to be able to say I've been on a replica of the Titanic, it would have to be so big though! They should make a ride too where you hit and 'iceberg' and it feels like your sinking, obviously doubt that would ever happen but it would probably be cool!

I read last night that on this replica if there was to be a muesum, it would include a room that would let the public feel what the passengers felt when the ship hit the Iceberg.

So it would probley make the room shake, show water on the screen flowing etc

ooh that would be good!

I hope this goes ahead but I doubt if they decide to do (unlikely) it won't be made in time for the 100th anniversary in 2012, I'd imagine it would take ages to actually make it and do the original justice. Also like Sticks said there's the issue of money too. Damn the recession.

About physically raising the ship- its a bit of a tricky situation. Its a crime etc to do it and there are agreements in place and legislation between UK, US, Canada and France but its an integral part of British history, and it is predicted to collapse into the sea bed within 50 years. The back half of the ship has already collapsed. But if they do raise it, it will obviously have to be bit by bit ...

They really shouldn't have scrapped Olympic, they could have made that into a floating museum and refitted it.

OMG really? So it will all collapse soon? :(

I didnt know they scrapped the Olympic, what a stupid thing to do.

It would of been great to go on it.

It was daft really, especially as Brittanic sank as well so they could have doubled it up as it was the only surviving ship of the three

And yep, it will basically rot because of the water and they think it will be gone by 2028

Shaun 02-03-2010 10:10 PM

I voted no to the replica idea because it looks really tacky.

Shasown 02-03-2010 10:45 PM

Is there a suitable site for a full scale replica of the Titanic? Might it not be better to build a museum incorporating the shipbuilding industry in Belfast with a large section dedicated to the Titanic?

I dont think it would be that big, I read they would most likely have the front of the ship coming out of a side of a building if you can imagine that?

Well in the Odyssey Arena (right beside the ship yard) there is a Muesum upstairs in that, it only contains a few things from the Titanic though like a Doll that was on it, a vase from it, a Boot that belonged to a passenger etc

Not much.

Shasown 02-03-2010 11:01 PM

well I think it would be good to commemorate the anniversary in some way, but they will have to pull fingers out to have anything decent ready in time.

Agree, I was expecting somthing by now and they are running out of time.
I will be very dissapointed if they just settle for another stupid tiny peice of art with the Titanic on it, it should be somthing big IMO.

Yeah I can understand that. Hopefully large enough be a worthwhile tribute to it and the shipbuilding industry and it may also attract yank tourists to the true home of the Titanic.
